Qin Xiaoyu waited for two days, then went to Master Wang's house with two bags of brown sugar and ten pounds of eggs. Master Wang looked haggard, and when he saw Qin Xiaoyu, he almost burst into tears.
"Oh my, isn't this Sister Xiaoyu? Come in quickly!" Xu Dahua's face lit up when she saw Qin Xiaoyu arrive, and she hurriedly invited her in, a stark contrast to her usual attitude.
"Master, let's go outside and talk." Qin Xiaoyu was too lazy to look at their faces and pulled Master Wang out.
"Mom, it's almost noon. Let's take Xiaoyu to eat steamed buns. You didn't eat much for breakfast either."
Xu Dahua's attitude towards Master Wang had also changed, which was the proper attitude one should have towards the main breadwinner of a family. Qin Xiaoyu was quite satisfied.
"No matter what you say, I'm not going back. I can't afford to lose face."
"Master, please don't blame me for being so ruthless a while ago. I was forced into it. If I didn't let them see the consequences, I wouldn't be able to control them in the future. Now that they've let you go, come back with me. I can't bear to see you suffer here. Let's go. We don't want anything anymore, let's go." Qin Xiaoyu said, tears streaming down her face.
"Little Fish, I'm truly sorry. I took 10,000 yuan from you without doing anything. It hurts me to think about it." Master Wang was also in tears.
"Master, if you really feel sorry for me, just come with me, okay? Do I have to say anything more?" Qin Xiaoyu said softly.
"Okay, I'll go with you. I understand, from now on you'll be my own daughter!"
After bringing Master Wang back, Qin Xiaoyu felt much more at ease.
She took the two siblings home and tidied up her wife's and Hanhan's grandmother's hair. The weather was getting warmer, and they could go out, so they couldn't be disheveled.
"I didn't realize it until I saw them every day. They've both grown taller." The wife hugged the two siblings to her side, unable to get enough of looking at them.
"Madam, now that the sun is shining, you should go outside and get some sun to supplement your calcium intake so your bones can grow well," Qin Xiaoyu repeatedly reminded her, still worried.
"I know, your mother-in-law is very dedicated. I'm really lucky to have a new housekeeper like you." The lady was extremely satisfied with Grandma Hanhan.
"Xiaoyu, why doesn't Wenwen ever come home? We haven't heard from her at all. Was that young man from last time her boyfriend?" Grandma Hanhan pulled Qin Xiaoyu aside and asked in secret.
"She hasn't been to my place lately, I don't know her." Qin Xiaoyu was angry when Tang Wenwen was mentioned, and didn't want to say anything more.
"Xiaoyu, I don't know much about the things young people do these days, and I can't manage them. You, as their sister-in-law, are really taking it to heart." With Grandma Hanhan's entrustment, Qin Xiaoyu felt an even heavier burden.
Qin Xiaoyu had originally planned to let the child stay overnight, but the house had been empty for a while, and it was springtime, so the house was quite cold and damp. She was worried that the child would get cold, so she took him back to school after dinner.
Master Wang had already checked all the dorm rooms. When he saw Qin Xiaoyu carrying his drowsy little sister inside, he quickly took her in.
"This child has gained weight again, and he just won't say a word."
Qin Xiaoyu gave a wry smile and exchanged a glance with Hanhan. She was already preparing for the worst. What if her little sister really didn't plan to speak? Should she have her learn sign language? Otherwise, what would happen to her in the future?
The next morning, Qin Xiaoyu called Tang Wenwen, expecting her to make an excuse to refuse, but to her surprise, she agreed immediately and came to the hairdressing school that afternoon.
The weather suddenly changed in the afternoon; a dark cloud appeared in the clear sky, and soon the wind picked up. There weren't many customers. Qin Xiaoyu returned to her office and looked out the window, waiting for Tang Wenwen to arrive.
A Hongqi car slid into the yard; it was Zhou Xing's car, but Jing Tian was driving. Zhou Xing was a hypocrite; while he spoke disparagingly of Jing Tian, he still considered him a friend. Qin Xiaoyu felt a deep contempt for him.
Tang Wenwen pushed Jing Tian into the office, and only then did Jing Tian reluctantly call her "sister-in-law," clearly remembering the slap he received last time.
One glance at Tang Wenwen and Qin Xiaoyu knew that the two of them were inseparable and showed no sign of separating. Tang Wenwen had shaken off her dejected state and was full of energy, like a burning fire, exuding the sweet and sour smell of love.
"I was planning to come today anyway, to see what kind of hair this kid has gotten into, and to fix it up for him." Tang Wenwen said, pulling off Jing Tian's beret.
Jing Tian tried to snatch the hat back, but it was too late. He awkwardly scratched his messy hair, unsure of what to do with his hands.
Qin Xiaoyu almost burst out laughing when she saw the hairstyle. Someone had tried to imitate the mohawk she had cut for Jing Tian, but failed. It was a mess and looked incredibly ugly.
Qin Xiaoyu knew that Jing Tian couldn't bring himself to visit, so he reluctantly let others cause him trouble. In her heart, she thought he deserved it.
"No rush for a haircut, it'll only take a few seconds. I have something important to discuss with you." Qin Xiaoyu gestured with her chin toward the sofa, and Tang Wenwen, being a smart woman, immediately sat down.
"Sister-in-law, don't worry, we've already discussed what to do."
“Yes, we’ve discussed it,” Jing Tian mustered his courage and chimed in.
"Oh? What do you mean?"
"At the latest, my paperwork to go abroad will be completed in another month. I'll go abroad first, and then take Wenwen with me. No one will be able to stop us then." Jing Tian's promise was very appealing, and the longing in Tang Wenwen's eyes was undeniable.
These words seem reasonable, but they won't appease Qin Xiaoyu.
"Come on, let's sort things out," Qin Xiaoyu said calmly. "First, from what you've said, it seems that Wenwen's identity hasn't been publicly revealed or accepted by your family. Second, you and Bai Weiwei haven't broken up yet. Am I right?"
"Sister-in-law, you're amazing! You're so insightful!" Tang Wenwen exclaimed, her face flushing red. She wasn't used to lying, but she hadn't expected Qin Xiaoyu to be so blunt.
"Am I right?" Qin Xiaoyu remained calm.
“Yes, my family forced me to be with Bai Weiwei. But if we go abroad, breaking up with Bai Weiwei will be a natural thing. They can't control us in China…” Jing Tian skipped over the most crucial part.
"If, if we go abroad, how can you guarantee that we will definitely be able to leave the country?" Qin Xiaoyu pressed.
"My paperwork for going abroad is almost done, and my family has agreed to let me study music." When Jing Tian mentioned the paperwork, he glanced at Tang Wenwen unconsciously, seemingly with some concerns, which Qin Xiaoyu caught on the spot.
"Was it Bai Weiwei's family who helped you with your paperwork to go abroad?"
Jing Tian and Tang Wenwen were both stunned, opening their mouths but not daring to refute.
“You did a great job. You used others, kicked them aside, and then went your separate ways.”
“Sister-in-law, it’s not like that. We’re not taking advantage of her. She was a newcomer; her family forced Jingtian to accept her. We’re victims too,” Tang Wenwen said softly.
"Tang Wenwen, we have different paths, so I don't want to say anything more. I'm already speechless at your words, and I don't want to hear any more of your explanations. You'd better think twice." Qin Xiaoyu stood up and dismissed him.
