"I'm so happy I'm blinded by joy! I've been urging you every day, hoping and hoping, and now it's come true, and I don't know what to do! You little rascal, you didn't even give me a chance!" Little Fish's mother said, tears welling up in her eyes.
“Mom, I’ve brought your daughter-in-law back, that’s enough.” Fu Di pulled Fang Baobao to Xiaoyu’s mother and said to Fang Baobao, “Wife, she’s the best mother in the world. She will definitely love you well, don’t worry. Don’t feel restrained or uneasy, she will do everything for you and give you the greatest understanding.”
"Mommy." Fang Baobao suddenly reached out and hugged Xiaoyu's mother's neck.
"Good girl." Little Fish's mother hugged her tightly.
"Alright, young man, come here. I'm the woman's parent. How have you treated me?" Mrs. Fang began to assert her presence.
"Grandma, I've come to admit my mistake. You can punish me however you want." Fu Di, with his high EQ, immediately ran to Madam Fang, lowered his head, and admitted his mistake.
"Was this idea Bao Bao came up with?" Madam Fang raised her cane and pointed forcefully.
"It was a joint idea of ours. We didn't want to trouble our family too much, especially my sister. If she were to hold my wedding, she would be in a lot of trouble." Fu Di smiled mischievously, and everyone laughed along.
This is for real. Qin Xiaoyu is a natural worrywart; if she were to organize a wedding, she'd be exhausted. Plus, she's pregnant now, so A Lei will be worrying about her every day. Zhou Xing's mother will also be nagging, making the whole family a chaotic mess.
"Well done, this brother-in-law is so thoughtful. Brother-in-law wants to give a big gift. You don't need to worry about your accommodation in Yangcheng, I'll arrange it." A Lei was in a good mood and generous. Fu Di was so considerate, he really is a child that people love.
Zhou Xing's mother didn't know if the newlyweds had eaten yet, so while they were chatting, she quickly went into the kitchen and spent a long time with the maids updating the dishes on the table.
Everyone sat down again. Everyone else was full except for that one couple. The two of them wolfed down their food, as if they hadn't eaten for days.
"Where have you been? Did you not like the food?" Qin Xiaoyu asked. They didn't answer, but she saw A Lei give her a wink, and she suddenly understood.
This is the same reason why she and A Lei almost starved to death in the Baiyun Hotel during their honeymoon in Guangzhou: they simply didn't want to leave their room.
Qin Xiaoyu ate her white fungus soup with a flushed face. It's good to keep quiet with delicious food; asking too many questions only leads to more mistakes. It really is true that pregnancy makes you stupid for three years.
"We took a trip on our honeymoon, and the last stop was to visit my mother," Fang Baobao replied after swallowing the food in her mouth.
"Is she still raising elephants?" Mrs. Fang asked curiously.
“Not just elephants, but many other animals.” Seeing the question in Xiaoyu’s mother’s eyes, Fang Baobao smiled and explained, “My mother is a volunteer who has been rescuing endangered animals. She has always liked animals but not people.”
"That's great. I want to do something meaningful in the future too," said Xiaoyu's mother enviously.
"You've already done so much." Fu Yongnian never forgot to flatter his wife, and the two of them gazed at each other affectionately, even more reluctant to part than newlyweds.
"Have you informed your father?" Mrs. Fang continued to ask.
"I was notified, and he sent me a gift," Fang Baobao said nonchalantly.
"What gift?" Mrs. Fang continued to ask.
"What shares? I didn't look closely, but it seems to be General Electric." This guy really treats money like dirt. Qin Xiaoyu admired him.
"Are you planning to continue your honeymoon or what?" Xiaoyu's mother asked cautiously. It was clear that she still hoped her son would have a wedding.
“Mom, it’s up to you. If you want to give my grandma an explanation, you can go back to our hometown and handle it there. But I’m in a hurry to go back to work right now. There’s a lot backlog from the past month,” Fu Di said frankly.
“Yes, Grandma has always wanted to see her granddaughter-in-law come into the family. She would be even happier if there were a wedding,” Xiaoyu’s mother said hesitantly.
"Actually, if I just tell her I'm pregnant, she won't care about the wedding anymore," Fang Baobao dropped another bombshell.
"Oh my god!" Little Fish's mother, who was always very emotional, immediately turned to Fu Yongnian with tears in her eyes.
“That’s right. Tell Mom she’s going to have a great-grandson. Forget about the wedding and let the child arrange it himself. If he likes it, he can have it; if he doesn’t, then we can keep it simple.” Fu Yongnian has become more open-minded now.
His son's willingness to get married was already a pleasant surprise; he had just been worried that such a modern daughter-in-law might not be willing to have children. Now that they're already pregnant, what's there to worry about?
"Yes, it's your decision. As long as you're happy," said Xiaoyu's mother, taking out a handkerchief and wiping away her tears.
"Today is truly a wonderful day. We're going to have another grandson! Another grandson! Heaven is truly blessing us!" Fu Yongnian nodded, beaming with happiness. He then took out a handkerchief and began wiping his face.
Qin Xiaoyu looked at the perfect couple and got a mischievous urge to tease them, so she started teasing Fang Baobao.
"Baby, you're the most stubborn one, so I'll just ask Fu Di, can you tell me about your courtship?"
"Sis, you really want to hear this? It's really melodramatic," Fu Di laughed.
"What am I afraid of? Speak!"
"This is a soap opera that's been around for over a decade."
It turns out they met during Fu Di's first year abroad. Being alone in a foreign land, even the most resilient person will inevitably experience loneliness and isolation, especially on their birthday.
When Fu Di is at home, his birthday is the most lively time, with his family full of love and he receives many touching gifts. But when he's abroad, he wakes up hoping for his mother's call, even though he knows it will be late because of the time difference, he still feels a pang of emptiness in his heart.
The houses he rented were two rows facing the street, with a courtyard in the middle. This courtyard was usually the territory of a traveling performer, and he woke up almost every day to the sound of his panpipes.
Today was unusually quiet, and he suddenly felt like going out for a look.
He hesitated as he pushed open the back door of the apartment. A girl sat on the steps, wiping away tears. In her hand, she held a blue-and-white porcelain bowl containing a bowl of noodles.
The amount of information was overwhelming, and Fu Di was a little dizzy. For a moment, he didn't know whether to pay attention to the people or the noodles.
He had seen the girl before. Because the rent for this apartment was high, most of the students who moved in came from wealthy families. This girl and her boyfriend always rode motorcycles and were dressed in a metal punk style, which was very eye-catching.
She's usually a cool, free-spirited woman, always dressed in heavy makeup and a leather jacket. Now she's secretly crying, which is quite puzzling.
Fu Di spends a little less time looking at girls and a little more time looking at noodles.
This is a bowl of authentic dried noodles, not Italian or English style, but from China. It's the kind that comes in paper wrapping, and you tear it open to find strands of noodles.
This bowl of noodles wasn't cooked very well. Although the poached egg looked somewhat like it, not completely broken into egg flowers, there was clearly too much soy sauce.
But none of that mattered. Fu Di remembered the bowl of longevity noodles his mother used to cook for him at home. He actually sat down next to the girl, staring intently at the bowl of noodles.
"Do you want some?" The girl placed the noodles in his hand before he could answer, and then added a pair of chopsticks.
