Chapter 253 "Can you sleep with me?"

Chapter 253

Ji Wanmei nodded: "If it's too much trouble, then there's no need to burn it. I can adapt to it. Don't underestimate me, I can adapt to many environments very quickly."

"Okay, I know. My young lady is the best." Lei Tingjun tapped her pert nose with his finger, his tone full of affection.

"Judging from your tone, it sounds like you don't believe me?" Ji Wanmei snorted at him.

"Be good, wait for me here for a while." After saying that, Lei Tingjun turned around and went to the woodshed at the back.

He brought over a bundle of firewood he had chopped earlier, found a brazier, tore two old newspapers from the wall and pasted them on, lit them with a lighter, and squatted on the ground blowing on them.

The brazier was lit in no time.

The orange firelight illuminated the room, instantly spreading warmth throughout.

Then Lei Tingjun went to the kitchen in the back, found two wooden buckets and a carrying pole, and went out to fetch water from the well in the middle of the night.

Ji Wanmei said worriedly, "It's so dark, be careful when you go out."

Lei Tingjun turned around and said, "Don't worry, I know this road well."

Ji Wanmei was still worried, so she stood at the door and peered at his back. She saw him carrying wooden buckets on his shoulder, his body straight and tall, his spine as straight as a sturdy pine tree.

She faintly heard the sound of a bucket falling into the well outside the courtyard, and soon after, Lei Tingjun's figure reappeared in the night, walking towards the door.

Ji Wanmei finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The wooden bucket had been unused for many years and was leaking a little. As Lei Tingjun walked, water was spilled all the way.

He carried the water back and placed it in the main room. He filled a pot with some water and hung it above the brazier.

Ji Wanmei then noticed that there was a wooden hook above the brazier, which had been taken from the roof beam. It was just right to hang the pot on the brazier so that water could be boiled.

The wisdom of the working people is quite clever.

When Lei Tingjun came back from Uncle Wang's house, he asked him for two sweet potatoes.

He asked Ji Wanmei, "Would you like some roasted sweet potatoes? Just put them in the brazier, and they'll be ready in ten minutes."

Ji Wanmei touched her stomach: "I want to eat, but my stomach can't hold any more right now."

"Then I'll bake it for you tomorrow." Lei Tingjun put the sweet potato away.

The water in the pot was boiled in no time.

Lei Tingjun washed a wooden basin, added some cold water, and brought it over for Ji Wanmei to wash her face and hands.

Ji Wanmei always carried towels and toiletries with her; they were in her bag.

She took out a towel, put it in hot water, soaked it, and washed her face with the hot water, feeling completely comfortable.

After washing her face, Ji Wanmei wrung out the towel and handed it to Lei Tingjun so he could wash it.

While Lei Tingjun was washing his face, Ji Wanmei went over, took off her coat, and hung it at the bottom of the stairs.

Underneath her coat, Ji Wanmei wore a beige wool knit sweater that was form-fitting and accentuated her figure beautifully.

Her breasts were full and round, and her waist was slender and graceful.

Underneath her coat, Ji Wanmei didn't wear bulky pants, but rather a pair of tight-fitting jeans, making it easy to tuck the cuffs of the jeans into her boots.

Now that she has taken off her coat, revealing her shapely figure, Lei Tingjun's gaze, which had been deep for a moment, shifted slightly before he lowered his head to continue washing his face.

Ji Wanmei took off her coat because she felt that some ash from the charcoal fire had fallen into her collar while she was warming herself by the fire.

She asked Lei Tingjun to roll down her collar and wipe the back of her neck with a towel.

Lei Tingjun stood behind her, watching Ji Wanmei lift her long hair to reveal her slender, fair neck to him, and urge him, "Hurry up and wipe it for me."

Lei Tingjun stepped forward, picked up a hot towel, and ran it over her beautiful shoulders and neck, asking, "Is it still itchy?"

“If I go a little further back, I feel like some wood ash fell in there just now.” Ji Wanmei turned to the side and scratched her head with her hand.

Lei Tingjun turned his head away, slipped a towel under the back of her collar to wipe himself, and asked with pursed lips, "Are you done?"

"Alright." Ji Wanmei swept her hair back and looked up, only then noticing that Lei Tingjun was breathing heavily.

He rubbed the towel again, poured the water from washing his face into another basin, and said, "You can wash your feet for now. I'll go upstairs and make the bed."

Ji Wanmei washed her feet with hot water downstairs, while Lei Tingjun went upstairs to make the bed.

No one lives in the old house normally, and the bedding and sheets are all stored away in chests and boxes.

Lei Tingjun opened the box, took out two quilts, and made up the bed in the stilted house where he used to live. The quilts used were the best and warmest ones in the house.

After making the bed, Lei Tingjun went over and made the bed for his grandmother's old bed as well.

Grandma Lei Tingjun used to be very frugal. She would put dry straw under her bed and then put an old cotton quilt on top of the straw.

Lei Tingjun simply put a duvet cover on the bed, intending to be a little more particular about himself tonight.

After he made the bed and went downstairs, Ji Wanmei had already finished washing up.

She hadn't poured out the water for soaking her feet yet; it was still warm. Ji Wanmei asked him, "Why don't you take a foot bath too?"

Lei Tingjun walked over, took off his high-top shoes, washed his feet quickly, then got up and took the water outside to pour it out.

"Let's go upstairs and rest. I've already made the bed." Lei Tingjun lit a candle and locked the door to the downstairs main room from the inside.

Then he took the pot of burning embers from the firewood upstairs and placed it opposite the bed, so that the room would be warmer.

Ji Wanmei went upstairs with him, but when she saw that he had already made up both beds, she paused.
