Chapter 241 Sisters' Past

After handling the tasks entrusted to him by Bao Ruijin, Mo Yuan tirelessly delivered the letters to their designated recipients and successfully established contact with Hao Fengshan. Hao Fengshan made a very good impression on Mo Yuan during their first meeting. Meanwhile, progress was also being made with his in-laws, which brought Mo Yuan a sense of relief.

However, Mo Yuan was currently in a state of idleness, and all he could do was quietly wait for news from Li Wenjie. He earnestly hoped that Li Wenjie would keep his promise and properly handle the relevant matters as soon as possible. After all, this matter was of paramount importance to him, concerning the interests and future development of many people.

Mo Yuan was quite bored staying at home all day. After thinking it over, he decided to put his culinary skills to good use and cook some delicious dishes for his family. So, one early morning, after the family had breakfast, Mo Yuan suggested, "I'm going out to buy some fresh ingredients. I'll show off my skills and cook you all a sumptuous and delicious lunch!"

Hearing this, Wang Wanru recalled yesterday's experience and quickly said, "Then why don't you take Lin Xue with you? Otherwise, she'll be restless and distracted at home alone. That way, she can not only keep you company but also be a helpful little assistant, carrying your things!" Mo Yuan, though saying he wouldn't want Lin Xue to carry anything, secretly thought that taking her out for a stroll wouldn't be a bad idea. So, he readily agreed to Wang Wanru's suggestion.

And so, Mo Yuan and Lin Xue, hand in hand, stepped out of their home with joyful smiles on their faces. Watching the loving couple, Wang Wanru couldn't help but feel a surge of joy. For her, seeing her daughter find such a wonderful and comforting home was undoubtedly an unexpected surprise.

Wang Wanru stood at the doorway, her gaze lingering on the departing figures of Mo Yuan and his wife, her heart filled with emotion. Only after the young couple had completely disappeared from sight did she slowly withdraw her gaze, only to find that Lin Lei had also vanished without a trace, his whereabouts unknown.

Ever since Lin Zhennan finally relented and said he would try to find something to do, perhaps a small business, to support his family, Lin Lei has been full of enthusiasm and energy, as if he'd been injected with adrenaline. These past few days, he's been constantly busy outside, presumably working hard on this matter.

Thinking about this, Wang Wanru couldn't help but feel a surge of distress. Recalling the past, while they weren't wealthy, their financial situation was quite good. Even if they couldn't help Lin Lei find a respectable job, their combined income was enough to ensure the family's basic needs were met. Now, however, they were so destitute that they had to send their son, Lin Lei, out into the world at a young age to struggle for a living—a truly heartbreaking situation.

Whenever she thinks of this, Wang Wanru feels a deep sense of guilt.

Over the years, although the couple endured hardship during their labor reform in the harsh and cold Northwest, they felt most indebted to their two children. Their daughter, Lin Xue, was fortunate; through a series of unexpected events, she married into the Mo family and enjoyed a happy and fulfilling married life, which could be considered a blessing from fate.

But her son, Lin Lei, wasn't so lucky. He had neglected his studies for the past few years and was now eighteen, yet he had accomplished nothing and his future looked bleak. Whenever Wang Wanru thought of this, her heart ached, and she wished she could turn back time and give her children a better environment to grow up in and more love and care.

Fortunately, Lin Lei is a fairly sensible child. Since the family returned to the city, and faced with the current situation at home, Lin Lei's behavior has been quite different from before.

The once tender child who always needed careful care seems to have grown up overnight, and he is no longer as dependent on others as before. Clearly, he has experienced many hardships in the past few years, and these experiences have gradually helped him mature.

Now, Lin Lei not only doesn't need his parents to worry about him much, but he can even take on the responsibility of supporting the family. He knows that his father, Lin Zhennan, is a bit shy and not good at going out and finding ways to make money, so he takes the lead in working hard every day. He racks his brains and tries every possible way to make money, just to make life a little better for his family.

Whenever she thinks of this, Wang Wanru feels a deep sense of guilt.

At the same time, she was even more annoyed, thinking to herself: If they could have resumed their original jobs smoothly after returning to the city, why would they have encountered so many troubles? And the culprit behind all of this was her own younger sister!

Whenever she thinks of this, Wang Wanru can't help but feel extremely annoyed and regretful.

Back then, my younger sister, Wang Wanfang, was only able to stay in Shanghai because her family took her in. Later, it was through Wang Wanfang's introductions that she met some people.

Thus, she climbed the social ladder and, through some unknown means, married a deputy director of the Education Bureau. From then on, she gained a foothold in Shanghai and rose to prominence.
