The middle-aged man seemed to recognize the person who had come, and flinched for a moment, then, as if he had just thought of something, stood up again.
"This woman assaulted me and my mother, and I'm going to call the police."
"Report this! You started it, everyone saw it. Zhang San, you're a grown man, bullying a woman is shameful!" The young man who had just recognized Liu Zi and went out to report the incident stepped forward and said indignantly.
"There were needles on her stick, and they pricked my hand so painfully. I need to go to the hospital."
The old lady of the Zhang family held her hands and wailed.
"You say I pricked you with a needle, I'd say you're faking an accident! If you're so capable, show everyone your wounds. At your age, you're full of lies, aren't you afraid people will talk behind your back?"
Liu Zi had tested it many times with the rooster in her house, and it was guaranteed to leave no wounds and make them feel pain.
Grandma Zhang looked down at her hands, turning them over and over but not finding them. Could it be that she was mistaken?
Seeing that the old lady of the Zhang family was ashen-faced and silent, Liu Zi pressed her advantage, saying, "You two are fighting one against one, and I'm not even allowed to use a stick to defend myself? You think you're the only one who's right? Here's my stick, everyone, see if there's a needle in it?"
Liu Zi raised the baton in her hand.
The crowd glanced at what Liu Zi was holding, and then saw that the Zhang mother and son were just looking at their hands without arguing. They assumed that someone had exposed their secrets, and a chorus of boos immediately arose.
Zhang San took a couple of deep breaths and looked at Liu Zi, this woman, with a somewhat sinister air.
A wise man doesn't fight a losing battle, so he finally said through gritted teeth, "I'm sorry, my mom has a bad temper and shouldn't have scolded you. You didn't lose anything, so let's just let it go."
The man's words sounded like he was being humble to Liu Zi, but his gaze, fixed on her, was incredibly cold.
Liu Zi narrowed her eyes; it seemed she had been resented.
She glanced back at the haggard-looking stall owner and frowned.
She's not some savior. The stall owner is a big, burly man; he probably doesn't need her to step in. She should just go about her business as usual.
Just as she was about to wave goodbye, she saw the old woman turn her back to everyone and silently curse at her. Judging from the mouth movements, it was "You bitch, you just wait!"
Liu Zi laughed in exasperation. Were these two crazy?
Since they don't want things to end properly, then don't blame her for killing indiscriminately.
"Shopkeeper, I want to buy a tricycle, how much?" Liu Zi asked loudly.
The stall owner's voice came a beat later from behind Liu Zi: "Five hundred, no bargaining."
"Oh my! That's so cheap, only five hundred yuan. I saw the exact same one in the county town the other day and it cost seven hundred! Unload one for me, I'll ride it away right now." Liu Zi's voice was so loud and shrill that the people watching the commotion nearby heard it.
There's a saying among Chinese people: "It's a fool not to take advantage of a good deal."
Liu Zi's words immediately stirred up a storm, and everyone started asking questions all at once.
At this moment, the middle-aged man panicked: "Don't buy it! Their products are bad, they're counterfeit and shoddy. Don't be fooled!"
The scene fell silent for a moment, and everyone looked at each other, unsure of whom to believe.
The stall owner's initial elation quickly turned to panic: "I have certificates. I used to run a shop in town, but Zhang's car dealership engaged in malicious competition, which forced me to close down. My goods are all exported from legitimate manufacturers, and the quality is guaranteed."
Fearing he would lose this opportunity, the stall owner quickly took the certificate from his car.
"Hey? I recognize this person. He's the one who used to sell tricycles in town. Are you here at the market to promote your business?" Someone recognized the owner at that moment.
Upon hearing the inquiry, the shop owner was overcome with grief: "That Zhang family's car dealership deliberately used generic cars to undercut my genuine, high-quality cars, and even slandered my dealership. I simply couldn't continue operating there, so I set up a stall to try and clear out my remaining stock and minimize my losses. But the Zhang family won't let me off the hook. They deliberately brought this group of old men and women to surround me and prevent me from selling my cars. They even pretended to be kind and tried to sell me the cars to them for a hundred each, but I refused. They've been following me for three days now; it's absolutely outrageous."
After the stall owner finished speaking, he started to sob. A grown man crying with snot and tears all over his face was a sight that was hard to bear.
At this point, someone couldn't stand it anymore and stood up: "This Zhang family's car dealership is bullying people too much!"
"Yeah! He wants to buy a tricycle for a hundred? He might as well rob someone!"
"That's a shrewd businessman. Someone with that kind of character probably can't sell many cars!"
"What kind of people are you, doing nothing but aiding and abetting evil? You're utterly despicable!"
...
Seeing that he had incurred the wrath of the crowd, and that everyone was eager to fight them, Zhang San had no choice but to lower his head and remain silent.
Anyway, these people are just watching the show and will probably leave in a while. As long as I don't say anything, they can just vent their anger by hurling a few curses and that's it.
Zhang San realized that they had almost managed to subdue the stall owner, but unexpectedly, a woman appeared and ruined their plans.
He looked up at Liu Zi, preparing to settle accounts with her after this matter was over.
Liu Zi raised an eyebrow at Zhang San, who was still unconvinced, and spoke again: "Hey, Comrade Zhang San, why are you looking at me like that? You don't mean you want to settle scores with me later, do you? Everyone has to be my witness. If someone ever burns down my house or breaks my leg, it will definitely be this Zhang San who did it. Don't forget to go to the security team and be my witness."
"Pah! He's got some nerve. He'd better try touching Sister Yan's sister." The young man from Songzhuang spoke up again to support Liu Zi.
Liu Zi witnessed Song Yan's fame once again. Zhang San trembled and visibly shrank into a quail.
Since Zhang San, that scoundrel, dared not cause any more trouble, Liu Zi paid the money, bought the car with the help of her fellow villagers, and left.
The tricycle was small, sturdy, and stable, just right for Aunt Zhang to ride.
After walking for a while, they ran into Granny Zhang, who had already come out to hide.
Holding her two children, she stood nervously by the roadside, constantly looking back until she saw Liu Zi, at which point she breathed a sigh of relief.
Are you alright?
"What could possibly happen to me? In Songzhuang, Sister Yan's name is very useful." Liu Zi made a half-joking remark, which amused Song Ersao and the other villagers.
"Second Sister-in-law, thank you for coming all this way to help. I just bought some honey and jam, and I'll make some cake rolls to share with everyone in a couple of days," Liu Zi said with a smile, thanking them.
Sister-in-law Song and several young men from the village laughed. They had all heard from the children that Liu Zi could make Western-style cakes, and they tasted especially good. Every child in the village could get a piece if they were lucky enough to do so.
Just because of Liu Zi's magnanimous spirit, they felt good about helping her.
Zhu Zi, who came with Song Ersao, helped Liu Zi ride the tricycle home.
