Chapter 286 Old Residence

Grandma Daya frowned and thought carefully, then she said slowly after a while: "Why do I feel like it looks like you?"

Su Nian and Chu Beichen were both shocked. They looked at each other, and Chu Beichen gently patted Su Nian's hand. "Grandma, did that woman only come here once? Are there any other clues?"

Grandma Daya shook her head: "I'll just wait and see this time, there shouldn't be any more. We are neighbors with the Su family, and we know very well what kind of people have come to their house and what they have done over the years!"

At this point, Grandma Daya patted Su Nian's small hand with pity, and said with gritted teeth: "No wonder the Su family doesn't treat you as a human being. It turns out you are not her biological child. It's my fault for not seeing it earlier and doing you justice!"

Su Nian's nose felt sore after hearing these words, and she almost cried. What could crush her now was not hatred, but tenderness!

Seeing that the old man and the young were about to burst into tears, Chu Beichen coughed a few times hurriedly, which finally woke them up.

"Look, everything is fine now. I was really upset with you!" Grandma Daya wiped her tears and told Su Nian, "You have to be well!"

After leaving Daya's house, the Su family's yard was next door. Su's mother was suddenly arrested. The Su family's yard was not locked, and the fence door was ajar, making a rattling sound in the night wind, revealing a sense of desolation.

Su Nian stood still, and Chu Beichen whispered, "How about we go in and take a look?"

Su Nian was silent for a while, then nodded, pushed open the fence door and walked in.

Pushing open the door of the main room, it was pitch black inside. Su Nian touched the lamp cord and pulled it once, but the room was still dark. He pulled it again, and the lamp cord fell to the ground. The light bulb must be broken!

Chu Beichen took out a flashlight and followed Su Nian inside.

There is a small side room next to the main hall. The light in it is still on, apparently because it is rarely used.

The room was not big, with a small bed stretching from the door to the window. There was no bedding on the bed, but it was piled with worn-out things.

There was a simple little table under the window, and a small stool was tucked under the table. Su Nian reached out to take out the stool and put it on the ground. Only three legs of the stool were good. Su Nian reached under the bed and took out a few bricks to put underneath, so that the bench could stand firmly.

"This is where I sleep," Su Nian said softly, and looked around the room again. All the books piled in the corner were gone. It must be that as soon as she left, Su's mother sold these things as scrap!

Chu Beichen closed his eyes slightly, feeling a little heartbroken. His family was not a top-tier wealthy family, and they could only get what they wanted in Quzhou. He had never suffered any hardship since he was a child, and he could not imagine what it felt like to curl up in this leaky little house the size of a palm!

"Su Nian, stop looking, let's go!" Chu Beichen reached out to pull Su Nian. He felt that if Su Nian continued to look, he might cry!

"Okay," Su Nian answered obediently, "I'll just grab a few things and leave!"

She came to the small bed and called to Chu Beichen, "Help me lift this bed!"

Chu Beichen worked together with her to lift the small bed. There was mud under the bed. The room was not paved with bricks, so it must be extremely damp.

Su Nian looked at it from the head of the bed, then took out a small shovel from the windowsill and started digging.

Chu Beichen stood by and watched Su Nian digging in confusion. After a while, she dug out a small jar, which was very similar in shape to the one Hu Hongde used to store wine, but much smaller.

"There are some things in here, I have to take them away!" Su Nian slapped the mud seal of the jar open.
