Chapter 324: Commander Wen's Secret

"Get those people in and have someone make a sound, then we'll see what Commander Wen has to say." Shangguan Wan signaled Gu Ying to go down, but as soon as she thought about it, something like a recorder appeared in Shangguan's hand.

Several people hurriedly dragged the soldiers tied up on the ground into the next room, but they were careful not to close the doors of the two rooms so that the conversation here could be clearly heard next door.

Lone Eagle shouted at the grinning man, "If you want to know the truth, just shut up and listen. I believe you will get the correct answer." After that, he sat on the sofa, emitting a cold aura, and looked at the few people.

At first they struggled, but after struggling in vain, they also wanted to get an accurate answer. After all, this was the first time they heard about this. Commander Wen had previously said that the research institute was built to study drugs to resist zombies, but now he said that it was to study viruses to control humans. They had to doubt it, but when they thought of the people Commander Wen had locked up in the basement, they felt that Commander Wen's statement was untenable.

Then they heard Commander Wen's angry curses.

"Han Lie, what are you doing? Do you want to go to a military court? Let me go now." He cursed loudly, calmly and angrily.

"Commander Wen, am I really the one who should be court-martialed? Besides, do military courts still exist these days?" Han Lie was as lazy as a leopard, his eyes radiating the power of a strong man as he looked at Commander Wen. There was a hint of mockery on the corner of his mouth.

"Han Lie, why are you doing this?" Commander Wen pretended not to know that he had captured his grandfather. Even if he knew, he would have let him go. After all, his grandfather was still in his hands. However, when he thought about the burning of the research institute, he thought it might be related to them. He was filled with worry. Thinking of that man's cruelty, his hands trembled. But as a person in a high position for many years, he kept his face secret. But this was just a pretense at this moment. No one could know that his heart was about to stop beating. He was so scared.

"Commander Wen, do you think you can get away with kidnapping my family?" Han Lie asked back, without any intention of answering Commander Wen's question.

"I arrested them. They were interfering with my duties. For the sake of base harmony, I was punishing them." Commander Wen stood up nonchalantly, brushing off the nonexistent dust. This was the answer he had thought of long ago; it would silence Youyou without threatening Han Lie, killing two birds with one stone.

"Really? Then you should just arrest those who have made mistakes. Why don't you even spare pregnant women? Yeah, not to mention you're using them for research. What do you think, Commander Wen? Do you have anything else to say?"

"Who told you that I would use them for research? I built the research institute to study how to suppress zombies. There would be no such vicious thing as using humans for research." When Commander Wen heard Han Lie's words, he knew that he knew everything.

But he was still making a final struggle. "Who is this person talking nonsense and slandering my reputation? I am a soldier, and my belief is to protect the people and defend the country."

Shangguan Wan was completely speechless. Looking at this man who was obviously unable to hold back his expression but was pretending to be innocent, she felt that the military words coming out of his mouth were so harsh.

"You think we would say such things without evidence, huh?" Shangguan Wan said coldly. Her eyes were as cold as an iceberg.

"What do you mean?" Commander Wen was able to resist Han Lie because he knew how to grasp Han Lie's lifeline, but he could never understand Shangguan Wan, and always felt that she was too mysterious.

Shangguan Wan only uttered two words, "Mr. Xu," and broke Commander Wen's city defense.

"He..." Commander Wen's lips trembled, not knowing what to say, because he knew that once Mr. Xu fell into their hands, all his explanations would be so pale and powerless.

"Just tell me the truth. Who is the person behind you and why did he ask you to do this?" Shangguan Wan just tried it out. Her phoenix eyes were fixed on Commander Wen's reaction. No matter how well he hid it, Shangguan Wan still saw his constricted pupils. It seemed that the matter was clear. There was someone behind him.

"You...how do you know?" Commander Wen suddenly seemed to have lost all his strength and collapsed to the ground.

"If you don't want others to know, then don't do it yourself." Shangguan Wan didn't say directly how she knew it, because she was just guessing.

He hadn't expected that he would be the first to give in. This was a well-kept secret of his, and he was the only one who knew it. He hadn't expected that someone else would know it now. He was afraid that person wouldn't let him go.

"Oh..." Commander Wen sighed and continued speaking.
