Chapter 48 Hurry

After leaving the tribe, the two headed north. The mane moved faster than a horse, as if flying across the grassland, and it never seemed to tire, saving them a lot of time.

Of course, the two encountered many crises along the way.

A large saber-toothed tiger roared at Li Qing and his companion, who were sitting on its mane.

Li Qing had no hope that Xiong Ga could communicate with and reach a reconciliation with this brutal beast.

He turned over to get off the bear.

They were already prepared for battle.

However, Xiong Ga tugged at Li Qing's shoulder, signaling Li Qing not to rush.

"It has a mane."

Xiong Ga laughed.

Like wild boars, the Mane Brown Bear is fearless. But in front of it is a ferocious saber-toothed tiger, a creature that fights to the death. This kind of creature is a natural hunter. Can the Mane Brown Bear defeat it?

Li Qing wanted to tell Xiong Ga that the three of them should attack together to maximize their chances of taking down the saber-toothed tiger. But just as Li Qing was about to share his thoughts with Xiong Ga, Mane launched the first attack on the carnivorous feline in front of it. With a roar, it charged straight at the saber-toothed tiger like a wild boar.

Extremely fast!

The saber-toothed tiger was very clever. Just as it was trying to avoid the brown bear's attack and launch a counterattack, its mane suddenly "stood up," throwing Li Qing and the other person to the ground. At the same time, it slapped the saber-toothed tiger on the side, sending it flying and crashing it into a tree.

The poor saber-toothed tiger inherited the tradition of being physically fragile like other felines. After falling to the ground, it let out a miserable cry. Before it could even get up and run away, Mane had already swaggered up to the saber-toothed tiger and sat down on its waist.

The waist is one of the most vulnerable parts of a feline.

The mane weighed several times more than the saber-toothed tiger. This terrifying weight pressed down on the saber-toothed tiger, causing it to frantically try to twist its body and escape. It roared again and again in despair, revealing its two saber teeth and rows of small, closely spaced teeth on its upper and lower jaws, displaying its ferocity. In its predicament, it unleashed a tremendous will to survive.

But the mane-mane creature seemed to find the saber-toothed tiger's howls too noisy, so it slapped the saber-toothed tiger on the head, killing it.

The bear was highly intelligent and felt a little embarrassed for not telling the two people before it fell. So it vigorously shook its paw near the saber-toothed tiger's teeth a few times. When it returned to the two people, two sharp saber teeth had appeared in its paw.

Xiong Ga laughed and said, "It feels embarrassed and wants to make it up to us with this."

Without any hesitation, Xiong Ga hid his share inside his grass skirt and handed Li Qing's share to her: "When we get back to the tribe, have the women there make you a pendant to wear around your neck. It'll look so impressive!"

Li Qing didn't stand on ceremony with Xiong Ga and accepted the item, putting it away.

The saber-toothed tiger we encountered on the road was really just an "appetizer" on the journey.

Even more troublesome are packs of jackals, groups of three or four Deinonychus that come together; both of them have encountered these before.

The former was scared away after being howled at by the mane, while the latter, several Deinonychus, fared even worse than the saber-toothed tiger they had encountered earlier. After Li Qing and the other man came down, the mane charged through the Deinonychus like a wolf among sheep. With a single slap, a Deinonychus would be half-dead. Even if some Deinonychus managed to jump onto the mane and cling tightly to Xiong Ga's back with their sharp claws, Xiong Ga didn't take them seriously. With a flick of his body, he sent them flying and then charged at them, using his sharp teeth to send the Deinonychus to their deaths.

By the time they reached the croton tree, the two had already encountered four or five attacks from wild beasts. However, thanks to Mane's extraordinary fighting prowess, aside from the occasional fall that left them with a sore bottom, they were completely unharmed. Even more miraculously, after so many battles, Mane's fur remained perfectly intact, without a single scratch. Li Qing could hardly believe it. If he hadn't witnessed Mane's back being attacked multiple times without any reaction, he would never have believed that Mane's defensive capabilities were so abnormally strong!

“I already told you, we can rest assured about Mane’s strength,” Xiong Ga boasted to Li Qing. “Its current strength is much greater than mine as the chieftain.”

"I wonder if its parents will regret it now that they know how strong it is," Xiong Ga chatted casually with Li Qing, pointing to the tree, "Is this the croton you were talking about?"

Li Qing looked up and said, "Yes."

"It looks ugly and doesn't taste very good."

Xiong Ga reached out and picked one, looked at it in his hand, and then put it to his mane and mouth.

"Hey, are you crazy? Don't feed it to it!"

Li Qing was startled.

As if it understood Li Qing's words, or as if it smelled the unique scent of croton, it turned its head to the side, avoiding Xiong Ga's hand.

Xiong Ga was delighted. He picked up the croton and examined it closely, then asked, "How do you eat this?"

Li Qing said, "After peeling off the outer skin, just swallow it with water. If you have almonds, eating it with almonds will have a better effect."

"What is an almond? And what does 'achieving twice the result with half the effort' mean? Does it mean something is very convenient?" Xiong Ga asked.

"Never mind, we can talk about that later. Let's hurry up and pick the croton seeds." Li Qing felt embarrassed, realizing he had talked too much.

“Okay, we’ll talk about it later. But this way of eating it is quite convenient,” Xiong Ga said. “I’ve seen this kind of thing several times before, but it’s too ugly and smells too bad, so I’m not very interested in it and haven’t paid much attention to it. I never thought that this kind of thing could actually make people poop. Is it because it’s so smelly?”

“…You can explain it that way if you want,” Li Qing had to remind him again, still worried, “but you absolutely mustn’t let the tribesmen eat it without restraint. Like ginkgo nuts, it absolutely cannot be eaten in large quantities!”

Xiong Ga said, "Yes, this time we will definitely strictly control the amount they use."

He kept picking croton seeds and putting them into the snakeskin bag he had prepared beforehand, then asked, "How much is appropriate to pick?"

Li Qing thought for a moment and said, "If we calculate three per person, and the croton seeds here grow well, one will be enough for them to excrete. But in any case, three or less is definitely enough. Any more than that is not good for their health."

"That's good," Xiong Ga said, quickening his picking pace. "Let's be as fast as we can. We've already wasted a lot of time encountering those guys on the way, and I'm afraid my people might suffer some other mishaps."
