Chapter 41 Yangmei's Engagement

Song Lili seemed angry: "I think both of these are too few, one is too stingy, and I don't even think these are enough."

Song Jianshe: "..." Do you even know what you're doing?

It was only when Song Yongren saw that the two siblings, who were talking nonsense, were about to explode that he quickly stepped forward.

“Jianshe, it’s alright. Your Uncle Weimin has helped the family a lot, so it’s only right that Lili gives these things. There won’t be any problem.”

Song Jianshe then fell silent and ignored Song Lili.

Song Lili suddenly realized that Song Jianshe had stopped her not because he was reluctant to part with his things.

She said to Song Jianshe insincerely, "Brother, I'm sorry." Then she picked up her things and left.

Helpless, Song Jianshe could only shake his head and watch Song Lili walk away, still somewhat worried. "Boss, are you sure everything's alright?"

Song Jianshe was not only worried that Yang Weimin's family might not accept too many gifts, but also worried that Lili's gift would set a precedent, and other families might not accept them in the future.

Song Yongren shook his head. "It's alright, Lili will be careful." This daughter isn't that foolish.

Sure enough, as soon as Song Lili stepped out of her own house, carrying the vegetables in her arms, she ran into Yang Mei's house like a whirlwind. Even Zhang Laidi, who was standing at the door the whole time, couldn't see clearly what she was carrying.

I could only see a little bit of green in her arms, but I couldn't see how much there was.

Song Lili happily carried the cabbage and cucumber to the kitchen and said to Guo Guihua, who looked astonished, "Auntie, let's stir-fry the cabbage and make a cold cucumber salad. What do you think?"

Guo Guihua then exclaimed in surprise, "Oh my, Lili, why did you take so many? A few would have been enough. This is too much."

Song Lili stuffed the whole thing into Guo Guihua's hands and said to her, "Not much, not much. Auntie, you cook a big plate, and there won't be much left."

"If there's any leftover, then save it for later. Are you worried about not being able to finish it all?" Song Lili said with a hint of reproach.

Guo Guihua was speechless; everything she said was actually true.

But... "No, this is too much. Auntie only needs some; you can take the rest back." Just as Song Jianshe had thought, Guo Guihua felt burdened.

Afraid that Guo Guihua would return the things, Song Lili skipped away and said, "Auntie, I brought them all. I have these at home too. Why are you being so formal?"

"Sister Yangmei and Uncle Weimin were a great help last time, so please consider this a thank-you gift." Song Lili said helplessly, "Why is it so difficult to give gifts?"

Guo Guihua wasn't fooled. "Didn't you bring a lot of cabbages last time? Wasn't that a thank-you gift? Do you think your auntie is confused?"

"Hehe, Auntie, it's not good to know so much. I'm going to help Sister Yangmei." With that, she ran off like the wind.

Guo Guihua silently looked at the vegetables and cucumbers in her hands, and finally sighed helplessly before busily tidying them up.

Around nine o'clock, Daqing's family arrived. Song Lili glanced at them and noticed that the engagement gifts they brought were quite heavy.

She was naturally happy. The more she received, the more it meant the man valued her. How could she not be happy?

Song Lili was busy serving tea and water, and didn't pay attention to what the elders were saying. She focused more on the food that Guo Guihua had made.

She was afraid that Guo Guihua would be reluctant to return the money, so she had to keep an eye on her.

So, Guo Guihua blanched all the cabbages that Song Lili had brought in hot water, then stir-fried them, and they smelled pretty good.

Those cucumbers were made into a cold salad by Song Lili. Because there weren't many seasonings, the taste wasn't very good, but that was only in Song Lili's opinion.

Once Song Lili calmed down, and everything was settled, the men started drinking and playing drinking games.

Song Lili felt a pang of sadness for a moment; she hadn't seen any of the things she was curious about today.

What was she doing here so early in the morning? A miscalculation.

No matter how much she wailed, Yang Mei and Li Qinghua's marriage was settled. She overheard that they would get married by the end of next year at the latest.

Song Lili pouted, "This is too young! They're not even adults yet!"

But that's just how things are, and there's nothing she can do about it.

If she really stayed in her life until she was eighteen, as she wanted, she would be an old maid, and Yang Mei's family would be ridiculed by the whole village.

Song Lili gave up entirely.

That's settled then, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

He was still angry, so he went to Daqing to vent his anger. In the end, Daqing was the happiest. Where else could he vent his anger if not on him?

Even long afterward, Li Qinghua still remembered the horrific things Song Lili had done to him, and he would grit his teeth every time he talked about it.

Of course, this doesn't include the later incident where Li Qinghua complained to Zhang Qinghua, crying and begging for forgiveness, and was then ridiculed by Zhang Qinghua.
