Chapter 42: Just Waiting for the Harvest (shuhaige.net)

Life went on peacefully, and before you knew it, it was mid-December, and Song Lili's cabbages were ready for harvest again.

This time, Song Lili didn't need to make a trip herself; Wang Daming was already counting down the days.

It had only been forty days when Wang Daming came running over, bringing with him a few wilted apples with their skins all wrinkled.

Although Song Lili was disgusted, she was also very happy. It was the first time she had seen fruit since she came here.

Without any hesitation, I took it, pulled one out, and took a bite.

Mmm, the refreshing aroma of apples instantly stimulated my taste buds, and my mouth was filled with the sweet taste of apples.

While eating, Song Lili said, "It would be even better if the fruit you bring next time is fresh."

Wang Daming's lips twitched as he watched Song Lili happily eating.

Song Jianshe silently turned his head away; he didn't recognize the person.

On the contrary, Song Yongren, the person most likely to reprimand Song Lili, just chuckled and watched without saying a word.

Song Lili quickly finished an apple before she had time to answer Wang Daming, "So, what are you doing here?"

Wang Daming rolled his eyes at Song Lili.

Is it meaningful to ask a question you already know the answer to?

But he still had to speak to her politely. There was no other way; this person was now his bread and butter, so he had to serve her well.

He laughed and said, "Lili, are you making fun of your brother? Don't you know why I'm here?"

Song Lili nodded seriously, "I really don't know. Why don't you tell me, what brings you here?"

This time, even Song Fang wanted to roll her eyes. Her sister was doing this on purpose; she could tell.

Everyone can see it now, is it possible to say it?

Wang Daming: "No..."

So, he smiled in a sunny and harmless way, "Lili, of course it's cabbage! You promised to save some for me last time, you haven't forgotten, have you?"

Wang Daming swallowed nervously, his eyes fixed on Song Lili's eyes, afraid she would give a negative answer.

This time, Song Lili laughed, amused by Wang Daming's appearance.

"Of course I wouldn't forget, Brother Wang, you're my lucky charm, how could I forget? But you're just in time, aren't you? Did you arrive at the perfect moment?"

"Tsk tsk tsk, you've gone to such lengths, no one else can do that. I'm not teasing you anymore, come with me to the greenhouse."

As Song Lili spoke, she stood up and said, "This time it's probably only around fifty pounds."

Wang Daming panicked, "Wait a minute, didn't you buy a lot of plastic sheeting last time? How come there's only fifty pounds? Lili, you can't be lying to your brother, are you planning to sell it to someone else?"

This Chinese cabbage is a hot commodity in winter. If Song Lili wanted it, there would be plenty of people wanting it, and various supply and marketing cooperatives would be vying for it.

If Song Lili were to be sold to someone else, he really wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

How can I not be anxious?

Song Lili could only roll her eyes, speechless at Wang Daming's thought process.

Can't you just let her finish what she has to say?

All that could be heard was Wang Daming still rambling on, trying to stop Song Lili from having any "ulterior motives": "Selling to someone else is selling, selling to me is selling too, so why choose someone else?"

"If you think the price is not right, we can discuss it. Everything is negotiable," as long as the cabbage isn't sold to someone else.

Song Lili interrupted Wang Daming, "That's one yuan per jin, want it or not?" Let's see if you dare to slap me in the face.

Wang Daming was stunned. He jumped up instinctively, his voice cracking, "One yuan? Why don't you just rob me?"

Then, things got awkward.

With a shameless and somewhat obsequious grin, he approached Song Lili and said, "Lili, your price is too high." After saying that, he ran his hands through his hair in a distressed manner.

Song Lili glanced at her sideways. "Didn't you say everything was negotiable? Is this not going to work?"

Wang Daming smiled ingratiatingly and said, "I meant a reasonable price, a reasonable one." But what you're offering is clearly unreasonable.

But Wang Daming didn't dare to say it.

Finally, Song Jianshe kindly added, "Your price is unreasonable; it's clearly an exorbitant price."

Song Lili was furious. "Brother, whose side are you on? You and I are family, okay? How could you betray us?"

Song Jianshe ignored Song Lili's strange cries, "Even if I am your brother, I still think it's unreasonable. Just because you're my sister doesn't mean you can cheat people."

Song Lili glared angrily, calling him an idiot and a moron.

Good heavens, where's the promised brotherly love from the "sister-complex" series? Where is it? Can I apply to change my brother?

Song Lili snorted coldly and lashed out at Wang Daming, "Can't you just let me finish what I have to say? Why are you in such a hurry? Not only do you look older than you are, but you also have a short temper."

Wang Daming was speechless. He felt so innocent! But he could only endure it.

Song Lili continued her incessant chatter, "Didn't you say the price was negotiable? Why is it now that I'm the one ripping people off? Wang Daming, did I rip you off?"

Seeing Song Lili with her arms crossed, she seemed to be bestowing a few rays of light upon him as if it were a queen, looking down from above.

Wang Daming immediately fawned, "No, no, Lili, you're the most honest one. How could you possibly cheat someone? You wouldn't."

"Hmph," Song Lili turned and walked towards her private plot, and Wang Daming then wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

Song Jianshe gritted his teeth in anger, feeling that his good intentions had been wasted and that Wang Daming had abandoned him.

Enraged, she vowed to herself that she would never get involved in Wang Daming's mess again, as it was thankless work and only offended her sister.

Song Lili and Wang Daming had no idea what Song Jianshe was thinking; the two of them were currently arguing endlessly about the cabbages they had planted behind them.
