Chapter Fifty-Two: Confrontation

The Gu family not only favored their eldest son, but also their eldest grandson; in short, they favored the one who was born first.

She was very good to her eldest son, Song Yongli, and her eldest grandson, Song Jianguo. She would give them all the good things she had and would try her best to find good things for them.

And here it is, arriving today.

Song Lili sneered as she watched the Gu family being pointed at and gossiped about, a cold smile devoid of any emotion on her face.

She wanted everyone to know how biased the Gu family was, and even if the Gu family really took something from her today, she wanted to make her fall from grace in everyone's eyes.

She asked innocently, "Really? Uncle's family still has grain? Then why did you say Uncle's family has no grain? Aren't you lying?"

She subtly added fuel to the fire!

Upon hearing this, some of the people around looked at Madam Gu with sneers, saying, "Isn't that just lying? She tricked her own youngest son into giving to her eldest son. How could her heart be so biased?"

Some people also knew about the Song family's situation: "Sigh... This old woman is trying to drive Yongren's family to their deaths. He got sick in the spring, but it wasn't anything serious. She insisted that Yongren take care of him all day long, so he didn't go to work and missed a lot of work points."

"The grain distribution is much less now, and we don't even know if the family can survive until next autumn harvest. I never expected that this old woman would come to ask for more grain."

"Is this her own mother? How can she be even more cruel than a stepmother! Yongli's family has enough food and several strong laborers, so why doesn't she care about her youngest son?"

Then, Song Lili heard a familiar voice in the crowd saying, "People say that they will take care of their eldest son in their old age, not their younger son. It is only right that the younger son provides for them."

It was Guo Guihua's voice. Song Lili recognized it. She looked over and met Guo Guihua's evasive gaze.

Song Lili understood immediately. Was he feeling guilty? Or was he feeling remorseful?

Song Lili didn't have time to investigate why. She spotted Qin Hongxia in the crowd, who was looking at her with a gloating expression.

Song Lili gave Qin Hongxia a big, bright smile.

Laughing at me? Do you have the right?

Compared to Qin Hongxia, she was at least fortunate; Song Yongren had loved and protected her before.

Qin Hongxia, who was watching the spectacle with amusement, was greatly provoked by Song Lili's smile. "You whore, how dare you laugh!"

What's so funny? You get disliked just the same way, don't you? But you forget that you often envy Song Lili and ask why she isn't Song Yongren's child.

Besides Qin Hongxia, there was another person who was also provoked by Song Lili's laughter, and that was Gu Shi. Seeing Song Lili laugh made her furious.

She pointed directly at Song Lili and yelled, "You little brat, how dare you laugh at me? I'm your elder, your grandmother!"

"You have no manners, you just eat and don't learn anything, what's the use of having you?"

"Without you, we can still save food for my eldest grandson and keep them from going hungry. What use are you to me?"

Song Lili glared at Gu Shi with a livid face. "Damn it, why don't you just die? That would save food!"

These words ignited Song Lili's anger, and she retorted, "Grandma, you're wrong. Your eldest grandson and eldest son aren't disabled or unable to move, so why should I save them food?"

"He has hands and feet but doesn't know how to be self-reliant. All he does is make his mother exploit his brothers and sisters. What use is such a useless descendant? Cut ties with him as soon as possible."

Song Lili was almost out of her mind at this point, saying whatever Gu Shi cared about most, and stepping on her wherever it hurt.

“In this Hongqi Village, which family lives off their husbands like this? My brother’s children are almost starving, and they’re still asking my brother for food. I just want to ask them, how can they have the nerve to do that?”

Song Lili couldn't bring herself to scold the Gu family, so she turned her anger towards Song Yongli, who wasn't even there. She was sure he was watching from somewhere.

"I broke my thigh bone, and he hasn't come to see me at all. He talks about being brothers, but does he even consider my uncle a brother?"

"When you're taking advantage of someone, they're like brothers, but when trouble comes, they're not even as good as neighbors. I think you must be blind to recognize a brother like that."

Song Lili was furious!

"Your whole family are able-bodied men, and you still don't have food to eat? That's just laziness! Don't you see that my family of two is supporting four mouths? You're asking us for food. Don't you have any conscience?"

Before Gu could fully react, Song Lili launched into a rapid-fire speech, like setting off firecrackers, giving Gu no chance to interrupt.

After saying all that in one breath, Song Lili felt a little out of breath. Huff... she had been holding her breath for too long and couldn't breathe anymore.

But I felt really happy, more relaxed than ever before.

It's important to vent your anger promptly!

Song Lili readily agreed, but Gu Shi was furious, her fingers trembling and her chest heaving, the sound louder than a bellows.

"You...you...you're talking nonsense. Yongli and Jianguo are not like that. They are very hardworking."

“Unlike you, who don’t produce a single thing all year round, I feel ashamed to have a son like that.”

Provoked by Song Lili, Gu Shi also spoke recklessly, which hurt Song Yongren.

The three of them, Song Lili and Song Yongren, looked at each other with concern. Song Lili was also a little annoyed. Why did she have to act impulsively? Now it seemed like she had caused trouble.

She wished she could stuff a smelly sock into Gu's mouth right now.

Gu Shi, unaware of Song Lili's thoughts, stood there with her hands on her hips, behaving like a shrew.

“My Yongli and Jianguo are a thousand times, ten thousand times better than you. My wife is counting on them to take care of me in my old age. I can’t count on you.”
