Chapter Nine Nightmare

Song Jianshe couldn't help but pat Song Lili's cheek. Seeing that she didn't react, he patted her harder and harder until it almost felt like he was slapping her.

Song Yongren was also terrified. He stared intently at Song Lili and did not stop Song Jianshe. Perhaps this would make Lili normal again?

Song Lili did indeed return to normal, because Song Jianshe's strength was too great, and the pain gradually restored her other senses.

As soon as she came to her senses, she saw Song Jianshe's large, fan-like hand coming towards her face. Startled, she quickly dodged, "Big brother, what are you doing?"

"Phew, you're finally back to normal..." Song Jianshe breathed a sigh of relief, stopped what he was doing, relaxed his expression, and exhaled a heavy breath.

Song Yongren breathed a sigh of relief, but he was still worried. "Lili, did you have a nightmare? Is anything bothering you?" He was afraid that the child was sick.

Song Lili looked listless and shook her head weakly. "No, I just feel weak." This is normal.

Song Yongren finally breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good, that's good! You scared us to death! We thought you were sick!"

"I just had a nightmare, I'm not sick..." Song Lili was still listless, the feeling from the dream seemed to linger.

Song Yongren carefully chose his words, "Lili, what did you dream about? Why are you crying and trembling? Could you be possessed by something unclean?"

Song Lili hesitated for a moment, but after a little thought, she decided to say something. Of course, she couldn't talk about her rebirth.

She couldn't say for sure what the future held, so she wanted to keep them on their toes and make them more careful, lest they say something that would cause trouble.

She swallowed hard. "I...I dreamt that the people of Hongqi Village went mad. They...they smashed up other people's homes, made them crawl like dogs, and beat and kicked them. Many people were tortured to death by them."

Song Lili burst into tears as she spoke, sobbing uncontrollably, "Some of those people are their neighbors, even their family members..."

The terrifying feeling from her dream haunted her, making it impossible for her to remain calm. Whenever she thought about it, she trembled from the bottom of her heart and worried about herself.

How can she possibly protect herself and get through the next few years safely?

Song Yongren and Song Jianshe were stunned by what Song Lili said, staring blankly at her in disbelief.

Song Jianshe stammered, "No, no way? Those are family members, how could they? Lili, this is just a dream, it's not real. Don't they say dreams are the opposite of reality? It can't be real."

Song Jianshe muttered to himself, seemingly comforting Song Lili, or perhaps comforting himself, giving himself a psychological suggestion.

Song Lili shouted, "That's not a dream, that's real, these things will happen, it's not a dream, it's not!"

While Song Yongren was still pondering Song Lili's words, he was startled by Song Lili's sudden agitated expression and quickly patted her back to comfort her.

"Okay, okay, let's not argue with your brother. Lili, don't be angry, don't be angry."

In fact, Song Yongren did not completely reject what Song Lili said. Instead, he pondered it, saying that some elderly people said that children can see things that adults cannot.

Although Lili is thirteen years old, she has always been innocent and naive. Maybe she can see some things? He was considering this possibility.

Song Lili also knew that the one who could make decisions in this family was Song Yongren, and she stared at her very seriously, saying, "Uncle, it's all true. It will appear in three or four years."

The new year should mark 1964, and it won't be long since that great disaster began.

Song Yongren hesitated for a moment, then lowered his voice, "You mean, that kind of day will come soon? Then why? Why do they make those people kneel?" Song Yongren couldn't bring himself to say the words "crawling like a dog."

This was too heavy a burden; the mere thought of it made his heart tremble and filled him with fear.

Song Lili thought for a moment and said, "I only remember them saying that they wanted to overthrow them, reform them, and re-educate them."

"Down with? Reform? Re-education? How do we do that?" Song Yongren pressed, his expression serious and earnest, as if he were talking about something of great importance.

Song Lili was very satisfied with Song Yongren's attitude and could say more, after all, they were family, sharing both prosperity and adversity.

She wanted to protect herself, but she also had to protect the Song family from harm, unless she did what those people did and harmed her own family, which she clearly couldn't do.

And she happened to know these facts: "I don't know, but it seems that landlords, capitalist roaders, and feudal ideology all have to be overthrown."

Song Lili couldn't help but remind you, "So from now on, you must not mention a single word about ghosts and gods outside, not to anyone."
