Chapter Ninety: Xu Youcai Returns, Yang Mei Gets Married

Song Lili spent the next two days in a state of anxiety.

She was afraid that Zhang Shengtian would disagree, and she was also afraid that Zhang Shengtian would tell others about it.

During that agonizing time, I heard that Xu Youcai had been released.

I heard he was fined and given a lecture inside several times before being released. Apparently, he had to pull strings to get him out.

Song Lili no longer cared about any of this, and Xu Youcai would no longer be able to cause any major trouble.

All she wanted to know right now was Zhang Shengtian's decision.

The next evening, Zhang Qinghua came and told Song Lili that Zhang Shengtian had agreed, but on the condition that she would listen to him from now on.

Song Lili thought for a while and then agreed. She was feeling quite overwhelmed, and with Zhang Shengtian there, at least she would have another person to offer suggestions.

Besides, Zhang Shengtian has been the captain for so long, and he doesn't seem like someone without his own opinions.

Then, Zhang Qinghua told Song Lili to wait for news and left, making Song Lili so angry that she wanted to back out.

In early December, Song Lili was too busy to think about Zhang Shengtian's plans anymore, because Yang Mei was getting married.

Yang Mei and Da Qing got engaged last year and are getting married this winter.

Song Lili was entrusted with an important task by Yang Mei's mother, Guo Guihua, to accompany Yang Mei throughout the entire journey until they arrived in Daqing to pick up Yang Mei by oxcart.

Song Lili didn't understand why such a custom still existed, but she readily agreed. Being able to see Yang Mei's family was the luckiest thing that happened to her here.

At the crack of dawn, Li Qinghua from Daqing drove the oxcart he borrowed from the production team to pick up Yangmei.

Wearing a new outfit and a red ribbon tied in her hair, Yang Mei shyly said goodbye to her parents and left with Da Qing.

As Guo Guihua watched the oxcart disappear into the distance, she suddenly began to sob softly. She couldn't bear to part with the daughter she had raised for so long.

Yang Weimin's voice was also a little choked up, "Don't be sad. Meimei lives close to us. If you have time, go and see her. She misses you and will come back to see you too."

"Qinghua is a good boy, he will treat Meimei well, don't worry, our daughter will be going back to her parents' home in a couple of days."

As Song Lili listened to Yang Weimin's words, tears involuntarily streamed down her face.

In the past, Yang Mei was like a grandmother to her, someone who cared for her when she was a child and someone she wanted to protect when she grew up.

Now, Yang Mei exists more as a friend, accompanying her through the most difficult days when she was alone.

Now, this woman has found her own happiness and started a family with that person.

She should be happy, but why do her tears keep flowing uncontrollably?

She must be happy, right?

Daqing's family is considered to be well-off in Hongqi Village, so they held a banquet to celebrate their wedding.

Song Lili also joined in the fun for a while, teasing the newlyweds for a bit, before happily going home.

They got together, and her initial wish to come here was fulfilled.

Looking back now, she must have been out of her mind to think of trying to match those two people up.

They were together in their past lives, so they should be together again now. Why does she want to bring them together?

After thinking it over, she felt that the most likely reason was that she was not used to being here and urgently needed something to distract herself.

It just so happened that at that time she learned that she had come to live during her grandparents' teenage years, so she stubbornly did it.

However, she didn't regret it. At the very least, she became good friends with them and unexpectedly gained Zhang Qinghua as a good friend.

However, the day after Yangmei got married, I felt empty inside, as if someone was missing.

I've never spent every day with Yangmei before, so why am I suddenly having this feeling?

Song Lili felt this was an illness that needed treatment, and she needed to use busyness to make herself forget about it.

She took Song Fang to tinker with the remaining one-meter-wide and four- or five-meter-long plots of land in her private plot; the rest she turned into greenhouses.

She turned over the soil, broke up the clods, and turned it back over again, going back and forth several times. She still felt energetic. Finally, she took her so-called summer homework and messed around with it for a while before she finally calmed down.

By this time, it was already mid-December, and many families were starting to prepare for the New Year, while the production team was also preparing to slaughter pigs.

Song Lili decided to go shopping for New Year's goods first, hoping that going early would allow Wang Daming to save some good things for her.

She hadn't seen Wang Daming for almost half a year. As soon as she saw him, he smiled, revealing a whole set of big white teeth.

Song Lili glared at him. "Is there anything special? I'll buy it as a New Year's gift."

Wang Daming clapped his hands and said, "There really is some. My cousin brought some over a couple of days ago. I'll share some with you so you can try some."

"What is it? You seem so excited." Song Lili was genuinely curious. What could it be that made someone like Wang Daming, who had seen many good things before, so happy?

My cousin gave me some fish a few days ago, and also stole some, saying they were shrimp. I don't know how to cook those. Do you?

"Fish? Shrimp? That's really good stuff!" Song Lili was also excited. Fish and shrimp are very rare.

Perhaps sixty years from now, fish and shrimp will be commonplace in Northwest China, but that's the era we live in; fish and shrimp will be rare then.

Song Lili urged Wang Daming, "Then hurry up. Take me to see it. I know how to make this, it'll be perfect for me."

When Song Lili arrived at the back warehouse, she saw dead fish that had been frozen solid for four or five days, as well as a basket of shrimp that were also frozen solid.

Song Lili was excited. She hadn't expected there to be so much. She hadn't eaten this in a long time, so it was a good opportunity to satisfy her craving and let her family have a taste as well.
