Factory Director Gao remained silent. "Stop working on the machines. The machines we're using now are from before the founding of the People's Republic of China..."
"So we need to generate revenue. I heard that the machines produced in the machinery factories in Shanghai are the latest textile machines. Many large textile factories are using them."
Factory Director Gao nodded, "I visited it before." He almost drooled when he saw it.
"So I suggest that we keep the temporary garment workshop running in our factory. This is part of our revenue generation. Let's try to get a couple of sewing machines to increase production capacity and keep producing these garments to sell in other factories. Although we don't earn much, it adds up, and we can use the money to buy more textile machines."
Upon hearing this, Director Gao swallowed hard. "Won't the garment factory be a competitor?"
“They can’t compete with us; their production task is simply garment manufacturing. If they have that capability, they should invest more in the market instead of selling to other factories like we do.”
Factory Director Gao thought for a moment, then looked at Su Yu, "Su, are you really not going to come to our factory committee?"
Su Yu laughed and said, "Wherever I am, I am a textile factory worker."
When they arrived at the municipal party committee compound, Director Gao was already quite confident and led Su Yu inside.
They came to see Mayor Qiu.
Mayor Qiu is in charge of all the state-owned factories.
Upon reaching the second floor, Su Yu saw Secretary Song hunched over her desk, scribbling away. Director Gao knocked on the door, and Secretary Song looked up, immediately spotting Su Yu. Her eyes narrowed instinctively.
Factory Director Gao walked over with a smile, "Secretary Song, it's been a long time. You always look so energetic every time we meet."
Su Yu smiled and said, "Secretary Song was sick because of work before, but seeing how energetic she is now, we can rest assured."
Factory Director Gao said worriedly, "Hey, Secretary Song, you can't neglect your health for the sake of work. No matter how hard you work, you have to take care of your health."
Secretary Song said with a smile, "You guys down there are working so hard! You've stopped doing textile tasks and are even scrambling to do garment manufacturing!"
"This is all for the workers. We're facing difficulties too," Director Gao began to complain.
Secretary Song waved her hand with a smile, "Alright, Mayor Qiu is waiting for your explanation."
Then he led Factory Director Gao out and into the office. Su Yu followed behind. Not sure if she could even go in, she leaned closer and asked, "Secretary Song, may I go in?"
Secretary Song glanced at her. "The office is so big, it would be packed if you went in. Wait outside."
He then led Director Gao into the office. They quickly came out again.
Seeing Su Yu standing outside the door, she led Su Yu to the outer corridor.
Su Yu secretly glanced at the other secretaries in the office.
Secretary Song pulled her by the sleeve and led her out the door, asking in a low voice, "What are you looking at?"
"Oh, I'm curious what everyone does for work. These are all leaders." You need to recognize the leaders' faces. What if you accidentally bump into them? Wouldn't that open up another line of conversation?
It's better than being associated with Secretary Song.
Seeing Su Yu's expression, Secretary Song guessed what was going on and took out a cigarette to smoke.
Su Yu immediately said, "Secretary Song, you're smoking again."
Secretary Song asked, "What's wrong? Can't I smoke?"
Su Yu sighed, "I'm thinking about your health. I read a medical book before, and it said that if this smoke gets into your lungs, they'll be blackened!"
Secretary Song: "..."
"Look at the stoves we use for cooking, aren't they all blackened by smoke? If the stoves are blackened, won't our organs be more vulnerable?"
Secretary Song glanced at her cigarettes, then at Su Yu's serious expression, hesitating whether to believe her nonsense.
As he lit a cigarette, he said, "What kind of man doesn't smoke? It's impossible not to smoke. Even if my lungs are blackened, I still have to smoke."
"It's not just the lungs that get blackened, the teeth will turn black too, and the hands will turn black as well. Secretary Song, I'm doing this for your own good, really. I wouldn't dare do this to just anyone, but I know you're a generous person who listens to advice, that's why I'm doing this."
Su Yu wore a sincere expression, but inwardly wanted to curse. If it weren't for avoiding secondhand smoke, she wouldn't care if your heart or lungs were black.
Secretary Song glanced at his fingers, silently stuffed the cigarettes back into the pack, and then put it back.
He never wants to see this woman again. Every time they meet, the meals go poorly, and now he can't even enjoy a cigarette.
