Su Yu took the afternoon bus to Jinhe County. It was quite late when she arrived.
This time she didn't call Song Dongzheng, intending to give him a surprise.
Fortunately, the county town is not that big, and she didn't bring much. She left all her daily necessities here last time, so this time she only needed to bring two changes of clothes.
We walked along the snow-covered ground, the snow crunching under our feet, and soon we arrived at the county compound.
Song Dongzheng hadn't returned yet, so she opened the door herself, turned on the lights, and started boiling water to cook dumplings.
Song Dongzheng was busy all day and didn't head home until it was dark. There were still some cabbages left at home, which Su Yu had brought back last time. He would cook some cabbage noodles and that would be enough for one meal.
He walked into the courtyard with his hands behind his back, and was about to go up the stairs when his eyes suddenly caught sight of his own house.
Suddenly, he stopped, took two steps back, and looked up at the building. The lights were on!
Someone came? That's impossible; they probably forgot to turn off the lights this morning.
The flame in Song Dongzheng's heart was extinguished instantly.
He sighed and continued walking upstairs.
As I approached my front door and took out my keys to open it, I was greeted by a delicious aroma wafting from inside.
My heart skipped a beat, and I was hurriedly preparing to open the door when it opened from the inside. A smiling face appeared before me.
Song Dongzheng's nose immediately stung with tears.
Su Yu smiled and said, "Come in quickly, I'm just about to boil some dumplings."
She turned and went to the stove, putting dumplings into the pot, saying, "Why are you back so late today? I've boiled these dumplings several times already. You have to eat a lot later. I came all this way to make these dumplings for you, and my hands and feet are freezing."
Song Dongzheng's heart softened completely.
He walked over and hugged her from behind, saying in a nasal voice, "If I ever upset you again, I'll make you kneel for the rest of my life."
Su Yu smiled slightly.
This meal of dumplings wasn't a complete waste.
…………
Su Yu stayed in Jinhe County until the third year of junior high school before returning home. School was starting on the fifth day of the new year, and as a student leader, she had to return to school early.
Not only did she return to school early, but Li Ping also returned to school early.
When Su Yu saw Li Ping at school, she almost didn't recognize her. The girl's face was red from the cold, and she looked like she had suffered a lot. However, she seemed to be in better spirits than before, and had a more spirited air about her.
Li Ping was overjoyed to see Su Yu and came out with her New Year's gift: a new pencil case.
"Sister Su Yu, I've finished my winter training, and my dad rewarded me. I was thinking of buying you something. I was thinking of buying you a scarf or something, but winter is over and it won't be long before I need it again."
Su Yu asked, "How's the winter training going?"
"It's pretty good. I couldn't stand it at first. I was in the snow and ice, and I was so frozen that I couldn't feel anything."
Su Yu felt cold just listening to it. If it were her, she definitely wouldn't put herself through that. However, Li Ping was very happy. "But after I got used to it, I found it was quite good. I feel like my body can withstand the cold more and more. As the saying goes, 'The fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold.' Sister Su Yu, I think I understand the meaning of this poem."
"You're very good," Su Yu said sincerely. To achieve this level of success... if this doesn't work, no one else can possibly succeed.
Receiving Su Yu's praise, Li Ping smiled even more happily. She felt that even when her father praised her, it didn't make her feel as satisfied as a single word of praise from Su Yu.
After the start of the semester, Su Yu became busy again. After finishing the first week, she told Teacher Jin that she wanted to resign from her position as student council president. Her reason was that she was too busy and worried that it would affect the work of the student council, so she suggested that a capable student take over.
Teacher Jin said, "You did a great job, didn't you? You did very well last year too."
"I gritted my teeth and got through it last year, but later I felt powerless," Su Yu sighed. "Although I really want to continue serving the student union and contribute more of my strength, I still hope to find a more suitable person."
Hearing that Su Yu's words didn't sound forced, Teacher Jin asked, "So, who are you planning to send?"
"Of course we'll vote. I have complete faith in my classmates' judgment."
