For a leading figure in the audio-visual publishing industry and a future queen of pop, staying in a standard room is indeed inappropriate for her status.
But we can't spoil her! Although she's gained some popularity, she's not quite a household name yet. You might not even recognize her name on the street right now.
If someone can be recognized, it's their face, not their reputation.
With this little bit of fame, you think you can get away with it? You want to stay in a commercial suite? If you become more famous, you'll probably start acting like a big shot!
“I’m staying here because the room can accommodate more people, so we can have a meeting or discuss some things. It’s not just for pure enjoyment. If you want to stay, you can pay the room fee of 120 yuan per day. I have no objection to that.” Xing Baohua said calmly.
"you……"
"What do you mean 'I'? The publishing house is already doing you a favor by providing free accommodation. Don't complain about this or that. Besides, this is a city hotel! It's a standard room, which is already quite good. It's even better than what we had at the teachers' college guesthouse. You should be content, understand?" Xing Baohua lectured him bluntly.
“That’s not what I meant! I meant that if you stay in a nice room, I want to stay in one too. If you stay in a less nice room, I’ll stay in one as well. That’s all I mean, equality is key!” Zou Wenjuan said, tilting her head back at Xing Baohua.
“Equality? Talk about equality when you have the ability. I’m the leader, who are you? Go back now, you have things to do tomorrow,” Xing Baohua urged.
"What for? Let me make this clear beforehand, I don't do secretarial work," Zou Wenjuan said.
"Tomorrow you'll just be a decorative vase for me, standing there without saying a word. When I need the documents, just give me your bag and I'll get them myself," Xing Baohua instructed.
I then explained some precautions to Zou Wenjuan and told her to go back to her room and rest.
In a business suite on the same floor, several high-ranking Ericsson executives were drinking coffee and even red wine in Reading's room, seemingly chatting casually, but actually holding a meeting and discussing matters.
“Reding, you’ve been in China for two years now. Tell me, if we use some of our administrative connections, can we get Xing to lower the price?” Bob said, leaning back on the sofa with a glass of red wine in his hand.
“I think it should be possible. Based on my observation, no enterprise in China can function without the support of the government, including their appointment of enterprise managers,” Redding said.
“What level of government official should we contact? Or what do we need to offer?” Bob asked again.
"Whether from Xing's side or from the local government's side, we need to make two plans. From Xing's side, I suggest we delay for now."
Based on my observations over the past two years, governments in any region favor foreign investment. Furthermore, they are particularly fascinated by foreign currencies.
“You mean, if we use an investment plan to pressure the local government to put pressure on Xing? How much investment would that require? You know, Xing’s patents are already priced at ten million US dollars. I can’t explain that price to the board,” Bob asked, his voice laced with questions.
“Sorry, Bob. I don’t know much about Xing or any other information. As for this area, I know a little. It’s a heavy industrial city. If we invest one million dollars in a company, maybe the local government can help us negotiate a price down to five million or even less?” Redding suggested.
"Perhaps we can give it a try! We can't push him too far. What have they found out about the motorcycle side? What's their plan?"
“I’m sorry, I don’t even know where he lives right now. If he’s staying at this hotel, I should know,” Redding said with a bitter expression, shrugging his shoulders.
“Alright! They’re always so secretive and mysterious. Radcliffe, if we take over Xing’s wireless equipment, what improvements can it bring us?”
"When I think about developing more products, the first thing that comes to mind is how to connect them to the internet," Radcliffe said.
Reading and Bob were slightly taken aback when they saw him, and asked at the same time, "Internet connection?"
Redding continued, "Xing, didn't you demonstrate how to connect to the internet?"
“Yes, that’s a local area network. It has to be connected via wired devices, but what I’m thinking of is wireless networking. The wireless data network transmits to the base station, from the base station to the wireless device, and then wirelessly to the computer. Like Sharp’s PC-1500 pocket computer?” Radcliffe explained.
"That calculator you mentioned? It's great for calculating functions!" Reading asked with a chuckle, though with a hint of sarcasm.
"You don't understand, I happen to have one. Don't let its small size fool you, it really is a miniature computer, because it starts with 'pc'. And it's very expandable."
If you use the docking station's expansion slot, tape drive interface, printer interface, and even serial communication components, you can connect to a large computer for data exchange.
Radcliffe explained, while also telling the other two about the other features of this pocket computer, such as the ability to transmit data wirelessly on this small computer if a wireless transmission device was available.
Redding and Bob already understood Radcliffe's plan.
“We have a strong selling point in making a mobile phone that can both make calls and connect to data, and it can also be helpful to business people,” Radcliffe added.
“Alright! Let’s go all out to get all of Xing’s patents, guys. Let’s split up. I’ll handle communicating with the government officials. Redcliffe, you’re in charge of stalling Xing. Redcliffe, for tomorrow’s talks, you’ll ask to see the raw data. Try to understand it as much as possible and figure out how to extend the capabilities of this wireless technology.”
Bob began assigning tasks. For some reason, the tech officer was absent from the negotiations the following day.
The next day, Xing Baohua prepared for the negotiations and, in order to bolster his own momentum, brought in his partners to make up the numbers.
