Chapter 165: Not Following the Rules

But to everyone's surprise, Xing Baohua only met Ruiding in the hotel's conference room.

We have a handbag-carrying, decorative secretary; the finance director has arrived; and the deputy factory manager in charge of production has also come. Everyone from our own team is high-level!

This negotiation must be incredibly important! The other side actually sent someone? And not even a person with much power!

Xing Baohua was speechless. He didn't play by the rules, and neither did the other party.

How can we play this hand?

“I’m sorry, Xing. Bob and Radcliffe wanted to visit this ancient city, but he couldn’t refuse the invitation from your local government officials. He asked me to apologize to you. I hope we can have a proper chat next time,” Redding said to Xing Baohua with a smile, standing up from his chair.

Xing Baohua wasn't angry. He shrugged and said, "Fine! I believe you. Since we're not going to talk, we'll just have to go back. You know, I still have a lot of work to do."

“Xing, why don’t we sit down and have a proper discussion about your patent?” Reding said.

“Do you think there’s any point in us talking anymore? This is a waste of time,” Xing Baohua said.

"What if we wanted to acquire your factory?"

“Welcome, fifteen million US dollars. All the patents are yours? The land for the factory is yours too. I’ll take your money and open another company in America.” Xing Baohua laughed even harder when he heard Redding’s words, and was no longer in a hurry to leave.

He wanted to see what tricks Reading was up to. He had told Reading before that it was best not to acquire his factory, but clearly he hadn't listened to him!

Since you want to play the procrastination game, fine, I'll play along.

Want to acquire? Sure. Now, let's see how you handle Reading.

Reding shook his head with a wry smile and said to Xing Baohua, "Xing, we won't acquire it outright. We'll take a stake. I don't know if you've heard of venture capital funds, but they invest in companies that are doing well and use the money to help them grow."

Xing Baohua nodded and said, "I don't need foreign investment for the time being. I'm sorry, Reading, we can't reach an agreement."

"Why?"

“For no reason other than this, it’s my wealth, and I don’t want to share it with others. The things I design, once sold, will generate money and help me grow! Also, I’d like to know how many US dollars Ericsson would value me in?” Xing Baohua asked curiously.

“If you accept the investment, the evaluation team will be here soon,” Redding said.

Xing Baohua thought to himself, "Is this how they deal with me? It seems that Redding is providing cover in front, while the other two are either hiding or preparing to strike. Their silence suggests they're planning something."

“Reding, I hope you can come up with a very good plan to negotiate with me. If you are not sincere, I will soon cooperate with other manufacturers,” Xing Baohua said.

"I remember you asked for a deposit before. So, how much do you need?" Redding asked hastily when he saw that Xing Baohua's tone was a bit angry and that he was about to leave.

"Two million US dollars. After the guarantee agreement is signed, transfer the funds to the account I designate, and then we'll proceed to the next round of negotiations."

"How about one million?"

“Redding, one or two million is nothing to you. What I need is a guarantee, and proof of your sincerity,” Xing Baohua said, tapping the conference table.

“Okay, one million US dollars. Today I can sign the guarantee agreement on behalf of Ericsson, and we will have the next round of talks. Bob doesn’t have the authority to make a two million US dollar guarantee; he needs to apply to the board of directors. You probably don’t know how complicated the board process is,” Redding explained, while also exerting a kind of technical pressure on Xing Baohua.

This technique is common, but also very useful.

Xing Baohua thought for a moment and realized that if the other party wanted to play tricks, he had to set up a contract trap!

A priority right of one million isn't so easy to obtain.

“Okay, Redding, a deposit of one million to guarantee you priority in purchasing my patent. I need to go back and revise the contract.”

"I hope to work with you on the drafting of the contract." Perhaps sensing that Xing Baohua had some ulterior motives, Ruding cautiously offered his suggestion.

Xing Baohua laughed and said, "Redding, before a contract is signed, it is always drafted. Both parties need to discuss and revise it repeatedly before an agreement can be reached. Your participation is no different from revision! Besides, the fact that you said that shows that I don't trust you."

Xing Baohua stood up from his chair and said, "Given your distrust, I now propose that the negotiations be terminated. From now on, I will no longer provide accommodation or other amenities. You can stay here at your own expense or move elsewhere. I will notify you when we can discuss it again."

Xing Baohua was genuinely furious. "Playing cards recklessly? I'll flip the table! Let's see how you play this game!"
