"The computer is fixed?"
"The kid from Director Xing's family in Workshop 3 actually fixed it."
"That kid's got guts. He dares to repair such expensive stuff, isn't he afraid he can't fix it? Even experts aren't sure if they can fix it. Tsk tsk, I heard he's going to take it to the capital to get it repaired. Maybe I should ask him to take a look at my radio that I can't fix."
The news of Xing Baohua fixing the computer spread back to the factory after being brought back by Old Wei. As for him, Xu Shuai, and Xu Fei, they went to the factory security department to explain the situation.
The computer was returned to the computer room. Su Ya looked at the computer with a complicated expression. Her mind wasn't on whether the computer was good or bad, but rather on the tall Xing Baohua.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and check if the computer is really fixed." Liu Juanjuan saw Su Ya staring blankly and quickly reminded her, "There are still several people watching at the door."
The computer room wasn't a place anyone could just walk into. People from other departments, hearing that the computers had been repaired, all crowded around the door to see what was going on. Among them was Lao Liu, the deputy director of the office.
Suya deftly plugged in the power and printer. Once everything was ready, she turned it on. Beside the computer was a thick English-Chinese dictionary and the user manual that came with the IBM computer.
Familiar English letters, waiting for the search to complete. Su Ya tested it and printed another English document. She nodded to Liu Juanjuan.
"It's really fixed! That's amazing! Why don't you check it again?" He stared at Su Ya with an incredulous expression.
"No need. Suya, unplug all the computer power cords and keep them safe. Lock the computer room." After seeing Suya nod, Director Liu from the office gave the order, assuming the computers were working properly.
When Hou Liwei returned, he had already heard about it from the people in the office, and his feelings were complicated. The kid who humiliated him last night actually had such abilities. But so what? He was still just a temporary worker. Even if he became a permanent employee after joining the factory, he would still be under Hou Liwei's thumb.
I haven't met Su Ya yet, but there are some things I'd like to talk to her about.
Su Ya was still in a daze in the office, though her eyes were still red. Liu Juanjuan was in a great mood and didn't mind Su Ya's absent-mindedness when they talked; after all, even with such a dramatic emotional rollercoaster, it takes time to process one's feelings.
Fortunately, the computer was fixed, and at most she would get a scolding from her boss, but wouldn't face disciplinary action or a pay cut. She didn't know who spread the rumor about being fired or going to jail, but she was trembling with fear at the time.
Room 101, Unit 3, Building 9, Machinery Factory Residential Area, is Xing Baohua's home.
Xing Baohua was circling around the dining table, trying to dodge her.
"You brat, I'll beat you to death!" Xing Changzheng, Xing's father, was chasing after Xing Baohua, holding a broom handle in his hand. Xing's mother was following behind, trying to stop him.
"You've really grown up, haven't you? You think you can do whatever you want now! Don't stop me, or I'll beat this kid to death!" Xing's father roared at Xing Baohua, pointing with a broom handle as he spoke, panting heavily.
Aunt Xing said, "Hua Zi, what exactly did you do wrong? Apologize to your father. Tell me, you're 19 years old, and you're still causing us worry. What happened?"
Xing Baohua didn't know what to say besides dodging.
He wasn't sure if he was right or wrong. He was just trying to get something fixed out of kindness, right? In his modern world, finding someone you know to fix a computer is a good thing! You rarely see someone as proactive and helpful as him!
"Look at how you've spoiled him. He has no sense of self-awareness at all. It's an imported computer worth over 30,000 yuan, and this kid only goes to the repair shop for two days. He just stupidly went to get it repaired. Hasn't he heard that even the experts said they might not be able to fix it? Why go all the way to the capital to get it repaired?"
"Ah! How could you even think of repairing something so precious? Hit me, I don't care anymore, you won't learn your lesson if you don't beat me." Hearing this, Xing Ma didn't stop her, her face turned pale with fright and tears streamed down her face.
“Didn’t I fix it?” Xing Baohua said.
"Fix it? You're just lucky, you actually think you can do it? You've made me lose all face." After circling around several times without hitting it, Mr. Xing, panting, threw the broom aside. He continued, "What are you thinking?"
Yes, Xing Baohua had heard this sentence many times, especially Xu Shuai.
"I haven't thought about it much," Xing Baohua answered honestly. What could he say at this point? That he came from the future, that computers were very attractive to him, and that his future work would revolve around computers. Computers were the key tool that helped him get started.
“I didn’t think much about it. I think you’re just wasting your time. The reason we made you go to night school to learn maintenance is so that the factory’s logistics department can set up a maintenance department. The newly formed team won’t let outsiders in. This way, you’ll have a spot in the factory. Tell me, when will you ever stop being so irresponsible?” Mr. Xing said, his anger barely contained.
Xing Baohua remained the same, just standing there, running away when hit, and standing there listening to being scolded, while his mind was actually wandering to other things.
As for what path I should take in the future, my dad has already paved the way for me. Do I really have to go into the factory and become a worker who repairs home appliances?
This was 1984! Private enterprises would spring up everywhere! Lenovo, Haier, Vanke, Delixi, Jianlibao, and many others would be founded that year. It was a golden age. As someone who lived through it all, he saw money in every grain of sand on the ground.
He has a long road ahead of him. Although he's come from a less developed era, he has so much to create. Of course, the equipment isn't available domestically, but it is abroad!
Xing Baohua immediately thought, "What do I come from? I'm a counterfeit manufacturer. You have no idea how popular my old-fashioned phones are in Africa. The phone's speaker can even be used as a loudspeaker, and the battery is so thick that it can last for three months without needing to be recharged."
The smartphone, modeled after the Little Chili pepper, was a favorite among Indians and Pakistanis, despite its low specs and lack of lag. There was also a tablet, aptly named "Bookpad." It resembled a minipad and used Lenovo's LeOS 1.0 operating system. To save costs, the screen was resistive.
