Chapter 6 Showing Off a Skill

Four people were crammed into the computer room, all dressed formally in white lab coats and shoe covers. Engineer Zhang, who had come from the provincial capital, sat in front of a computer, while Su Ya and Director Liu stood on either side, watching. Liu Juanjuan craned her neck to look at the back, and several other office staff watched from the doorway.

Zhang Xuebao pressed the power button. *Beep*, the computer performed a self-test. After checking, there were no problems. He asked Su Ya, "Comrade Su, where was the smoke coming from? Do you know exactly where it burned?"

"There's smoke coming from here, and I was afraid it would catch fire, so I poured a whole tub of tea on it," Liu Juanjuan said before Su Ya could reply.

"Wow, you really dare to splash water! This is an electrical appliance! Aren't you afraid of getting shocked?" While saying this, she started checking the computer's running programs. Then she added, "It looks like the computer monitor is burnt out. Do you have anyone here who knows how to fix it?"

The computer itself isn't seriously damaged and can run programs normally. However, we should be more careful in the future, as computers are expensive and contain highly advanced technology, especially the electronic components on the circuit boards, which are susceptible to short circuits due to moisture.

"Okay, Mr. Zhang, we will definitely pay attention to these operational details and standards. Please check it again carefully and give us some valuable feedback on our computer room," said Lao Liu, the deputy director of the office, promptly.

Just as Xing's father and Xing Baohua came up to the second floor, they passed by the computer room on their way to the factory manager's office and saw several people standing at the door.

"Director Xing is here. This must be your son, he's quite capable!" The people at the door all knew each other and greeted one another, one of them saying.

When Liu Juanjuan saw someone speaking at the door, she turned around and immediately said, "The computer repairman from yesterday is here."

Everyone inside turned to look at the doorway, each with a different expression. Su Ya's expression seemed calm, but her eyes held a complex and shifty look.

Director Liu glanced at him briefly, and then heard Zhang Xuebao say, "Please come in quickly."

"Xiao Liu, prepare his things," Director Liu instructed Liu Juanjuan, showing respect to the engineer from the provincial capital. Then, turning to Xing's father, she said, "Director Xing, let your son in."

Xing Baohua looked at his father, as if to say, "Can I go in or not?"

"Director Liu is calling you. Go in. Be sincere and acknowledge your mistakes from yesterday," Xing's father said to Xing Baohua in a low voice.

After saying "Okay," Xing Baohua stepped inside.

A hand stopped him, saying, "This is a restricted area, you can't just walk in like that. Put on shoe covers."

It was Hou Liwei who stopped them. He came out as soon as he heard the commotion and stood to the side without saying a word. When he saw the change in Su Ya's eyes, he felt uncomfortable.

Xing Baohua didn't say anything, but pushed his hand away and waved to Liu Juanjuan who was walking over, meaning that he didn't wear that kind of thing.

They just swaggered in like that.

"They don't follow any discipline at all." This was a slightly harsh statement. There were people from various departments in the office building all around, and everyone could tell that this was meant to put a bad word to the Xing family.

Director Liu was also taken aback, and Liu Juanjuan stood there awkwardly.

When Zhang Xuebao saw Xing Baohua approaching, he stood up from his computer. His thick glasses made a strong impression. He took the initiative to extend his hand to shake hands with Xing Baohua.

"I'm an engineer from the provincial computer company. My surname is Zhang, Zhang Xuebao. Hello, I didn't expect you to be so young!" Zhang Xuebao introduced himself, shaking Xing Baohua's hand.

“Hello, I’m Xing Baohua. I work at our factory…” Before Xing Baohua could finish speaking, Hou Liwei, who followed him in, said, “I’m a temporary worker at our factory. I also enrolled in an appliance repair class this year, so I know a little about electrical appliances.”

What surprised Zhang Xuebao was that this appliance repair shop was clearly a college, and they knew a little about electrical appliances, yet they dared to repair computers, and even fix them, although he hadn't yet figured out what was wrong with the computer.

Xing Baohua ignored the sarcasm that followed and said, "I do know a bit about electrical repair. I fixed the monitor, didn't I? It wasn't the computer that burned out yesterday. The monitor's high-voltage transformer and motherboard were broken. I replaced a few damaged diodes on the motherboard. The computer is fine; I ran a test."

After saying that, he lowered his head to look for something.

After listening, Zhang Xuebao felt that this person knew a bit about computers, could distinguish between a monitor and a computer case, and more importantly, understood how to operate them. These days, people who know these things are extremely rare. Wasn't this computer supposed to be managed by that young girl?

"What are you looking for?" Director Liu asked, noticing Xing Baohua's tall and robust build, which made him seem a bit cramped. More importantly, it was disrespectful to the experts from the province!

“I didn’t see the voltage regulator! The computer burned out yesterday, I guess it was due to a voltage problem. Luckily, the monitor burned out, so I can just fix it like a TV, or I can just bring over a new TV and make do. If the computer itself burned out, the parts would be hard to find,” Xing Baohua said.

“Yes, we have a voltage regulator.” Su Ya pointed to a small box under the table. Xing Baohua went over, squatted down to check the power display, adjusted it a few times, and then stood up, saying, “This thing is broken. Let’s replace it.”

“Find another one. Do you think the factory is rich? You know how to repair appliances, right? You can fix computers, so this shouldn’t be hard to fix, right?” Hou Liwei said.

Xing Baohua smiled slightly and said, "Whether you replace it or not, repair it or not, it's none of my business!"

"Oh, right, the parts for repairing the monitor yesterday cost 74.3 yuan, and the labor cost was 50 yuan. That's 124.3 yuan in total, rounded down to 124." As he said this, Xing Baohua took out a receipt and handed it to Hou Liwei.

Hou Liwei retorted seriously, "Go ahead and report it to whoever you want, you won't get a single penny from me."

"Fine, if no one will reimburse me, I'll move out. Otherwise, I'll restore everything to its original state." Xing Baohua raised his chin arrogantly.
