After enjoying a delicious and sumptuous lunch, Wang Hu glanced at the clock on the wall and silently calculated the time, deciding that the afternoon would be perfect for taking care of his passport.
He patted his round belly, got up and walked to the window. He looked at the clear sky outside, a slight smile playing on his lips, and muttered to himself, "This weather is perfect for going out on errands."
He turned and went back into his room, grabbed his wallet and some necessary documents, and said goodbye to his parents. He opened the car door, got into the driver's seat, and skillfully started the car. The engine emitted a deep, powerful roar, as if cheering him on for his upcoming journey.
Wang Hu didn't bring Yu Hui with him; she was already asleep on Wang Hu's big bed.
After a few hours on a plane and then a few hours in a car, I felt like a completely drained doll. I was incredibly sleepy after lunch.
Wang Hu frowned with concern and said softly, "Huihui, you should rest well. I'll be right back." Yu Hui opened her eyes slightly, smiled weakly, and waved her hand.
Wang Hu drove along the wide road towards the city's Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration Office. Along the way, he listened to cheerful music on the radio, feeling exceptionally relaxed.
The car quickly arrived at its destination. Wang Hu parked the car, straightened his clothes, and walked confidently into the service hall.
The service hall was bustling with people. Wang Hu went straight to the passport processing window and explained his purpose to the staff. The staff warmly welcomed him and asked him to go to the photo room next door to have his picture taken first.
Wang Hu remembered that he had already informed the relevant personnel when he returned to his hometown, and everything was arranged. He arrived at the photo studio, where the photographer skillfully adjusted the equipment and had Wang Hu sit down. With a "click," the photo was taken.
Afterwards, Wang Hu returned to the window and submitted the relevant documents. The staff quickly reviewed the documents, a satisfied smile appearing on their faces. "No problem, your documents are all complete, we can process it for you immediately," the staff member said, skillfully operating the computer. Just 10 minutes later, a brand new passport was completed. Wang Hu took the passport, examined it carefully, and felt a surge of joy.
Wang Hu, passport in hand, walked happily out of the service hall. The sunlight warmed him. He reached his car, about to open the door and start the engine to go home, when suddenly a familiar figure caught his eye. Wasn't that Liu Jie? She was walking towards the police station with a man; the man beside her must be her husband.
Wang Hu was startled, thinking something had happened to their family. Without thinking twice, he quickly walked over. Liu Jie, seeing Wang Hu, became even more flustered, her already tense expression turning even more panicked.
Her eyes darted around, her hands unconsciously clutching the hem of her clothes, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. She secretly gave Wang Hu a wink, wanting him to leave quickly.
However, Wang Hu ignored her hints. He walked a few steps to Liu Jie and her husband, his face showing concern, and asked anxiously, "Why are you here? Did something happen?" His voice was full of worry, and his eyes were fixed on Liu Jie and her husband.
Liu Jie's husband paused for a moment, then a forced smile appeared on his face. He cleared his throat and said, "It's alright, we're here to settle the bill. A few police cars were repaired at my place before the New Year."
As he spoke, he rubbed his hands together uncomfortably. Wang Hu understood immediately; collecting money from public accounts was both easy and difficult, depending on whether the account had a budget. If the account was empty, you couldn't get the money from them!
Sure enough, during those agonizing ten or twenty minutes, time seemed to stand still, each second testing the patience of the waiting person. Finally, the tightly closed door slowly opened, and two people walked out, their faces ashen. Their expressions were clouded, as if they had just weathered a fierce storm. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that the atmosphere between Liu Jie and her husband was tense; it seemed they had just had a major argument!
Her husband, furious, didn't even glance at Liu Jie. He walked straight to his car, slammed the door shut, started the engine, and sped away, kicking up dust. His resolute departure seemed to proclaim the intensity of the argument. Liu Jie stood there, watching the taillights disappear into the distance, feeling utterly drained of strength. Tears welled in her eyes, threatening to spill over at any moment.
Just then, Wang Hu had already driven the car steadily over and stopped not far from Liu Jie. He slowly rolled down the window, leaned out, and with a concerned expression on his face, shouted loudly to Liu Jie, "Get in the car!" His voice seemed to have a magical power, instantly calming Liu Jie's previously flustered heart.
Upon hearing Wang Hu's voice, Liu Jie instinctively wiped away the tears welling in her eyes, her movements hurried and anxious. She didn't want Wang Hu to see her crying in such a disheveled state. She took a deep breath, forced a smile, and quickly walked to Wang Hu's car, opened the door, and got in.
Wang Hu started the car, but instead of heading towards Liu Jie's house, he drove towards their secret little nest—the villa that Wang Hu had bought especially for her.
The car was extremely quiet throughout the journey, with only the hum of the engine and the whooshing sound of the wind outside the window. Wang Hu would occasionally glance at Liu Jie in the rearview mirror, only to see her staring blankly out the window, her face filled with exhaustion and grievance.
Finally, the car arrived at the villa. Wang Hu parked the car and walked into the villa with Liu Jie. The villa was decorated warmly and romantically, with soft lighting in every corner, as if soothing Liu Jie's wounded heart. Wang Hu pulled Liu Jie to sit on the sofa, poured her a glass of hot water, and then asked softly, "So, what happened? You two even argued over asking for a debt?"
