Chapter Three: Getting Rich

"Sister-in-law, I'm so sorry! I've left you all busy preparing the meal by yourself."

After several years as sisters-in-law, they knew what kind of person Niu was. Relying on the fact that she had given birth to the Lin family's grandson, she would always go to the toilet whenever she said she had to do chores, and would come back as soon as she finished.

Old Mrs. Shen turned a blind eye and pretended not to see it.

"Alright, let's get ready to eat. Take advantage of these good days and get the land tilled and prepared quickly. Don't drag it out and delay the wheat's growth."

Old Lin spoke, and everyone quickly finished their meal, grabbed their tools, and went to the fields.

"Da Ya, Er Ya, you two, you can't be lazy. If I see you two lazy girls slacking off, I'll beat you to death when I get back. After you finish washing the dishes, wash the clothes, feed the pigs and chickens, and then go and gather pig feed. If you don't finish your work before you get back, you won't get lunch."

After Grandma Shen finished speaking, she was about to give Jinbao a few more instructions when she turned around and found that Jinbao had already run out to play. She had no choice but to give up and go down to the ground with him.

After what happened yesterday, Er Ya didn't want to talk to Da Ya anymore. She washed the pot herself, poured the water into a basin, added some chopped pig feed from yesterday, and went to feed the pigs.

Daya wanted to say something in her own defense, but seeing Erya's back, she stomped her foot, turned around, and went to feed the chickens.

After finally finishing her work, Er Ya carried a basket and went out to gather pig feed. This was the first time she had gone out since she transmigrated. Looking at the mountains not far away, shrouded in mist, the peaks were hidden in the clouds and appeared and disappeared. She heard the frightened crowing of chickens and the excited barking of dogs. Whose dog was chasing chickens?

We slowly made our way up the mountain along a dirt road. There were many people going up the mountain at this time, and food was scarce. Only some of the weaker children who were not yet able to work in the fields could pick some edible wild vegetables and mix them into the cornmeal so that they could at least fill their stomachs.

Not far ahead, we saw a group of village children squatting on the ground digging shepherd's purse. Shepherd's purse is at its tenderest time of year and can be stir-fried, made into a cold dish, or used to make soup.

Er Ya saw that a dozen or so children were crammed into a small area and didn't want to go over. Just then, a little girl of seven or eight years old saw Er Ya and shouted, "Er Ya, come quickly, there are lots of wild vegetables here."

This is Lin Xiaoyu, the granddaughter of my great-uncle. She and Er Ya are always on good terms. Someone next to her is nudging her.

“Look how dirty she is. My grandma said I can’t play with her. If you let her come over, I won’t let you dig vegetables here anymore.”

Er Ya heard Lin Xiaoyu call her and had just lifted her foot when she heard someone else say that. Not wanting to implicate Lin Xiaoyu, she smiled at Xiaoyu and said, "It's okay, you can dig here. I came out to cut pig feed."

After saying that, we walked along the road. The mountain contains a wealth of treasures, including rare medicinal herbs and all kinds of wild delicacies. As long as you are good at exploring, you will never leave empty-handed.

That's what mountains are like: sincere, simple, selfless, and dedicated.

It has come from ancient times, nurturing our ancestors and influencing generation after generation.

In those famine-stricken times, without this mountain, countless people would have starved to death.

Er Ya walked along the path for a while and then saw a wild purple-leaf plum tree. Feeling her still hungry stomach, she quickly put down her basket, climbed the tree, picked one, and put it in her mouth.

The leaves of the purple-leaf plum are very beautiful, with purple-red leaves surrounding the plum trees.

The purple-leaf plum has a sweet and sour taste, and in modern times, it is planted as an ornamental tree along the roadside.

I had only eaten one when I saw several children coming from under the tree.

"Brother, look, the plum tree I just found has been completely stolen by Er Ya."

A little boy pointed at Er Ya angrily and said.

What? Er Ya thought to herself: I only ate one! Before she could react, a little boy picked up a long branch and started whipping her. Er Ya was afraid of getting hurt, so she had to get down first.

"Lin Nan, this tree doesn't belong to you. It grows in these mountains, and anyone can pick it and eat it. Why do you say that I stole it from you?"

Er Ya angrily said that the slightly older boy was Lin Nan's older brother, Lin Dong. Upon hearing this, he shoved Er Ya hard, knocking her to the ground.

"Lin Erya, how dare you talk to my brother like that? You've got some nerve, haven't you? You want a beating? Brothers, let's go!"

After saying that, he punched and kicked Er Ya on the ground. Er Ya was too thin and weak to fight back. She could only cover her head and silently endure it.

Seeing that Er Ya dared not resist, Lin Dong stopped. "This time I'll teach you a lesson. Let's see if you dare to talk to us brothers like that again. Now get lost."

Er Ya was beaten so badly that the scabs that had just formed on her head fell off again, and her body was covered in footprints. Thinking that she had only retorted once and had been beaten up, she decided that it was best to leave first.

Walking along the road, Er Ya was filled with indignation. Why had she come to this poor and remote place? The people here were so arrogant and unreasonable.

She would hit someone at the slightest disagreement, and the more she thought about it, the more upset she became, so she lay on the ground and cried…

"Hey, little sister, what's wrong?"

Er Ya looked up and saw a boy who looked about seven or eight years old. He had fair skin, delicate features, and a handsome appearance. The aura he exuded indicated that he was not from the village.

Liu Jingyu saw the little girl before him, her small, thin body and large, bright black eyes silently weeping.

"Little sister, were you bullied? Tell me, and I'll get revenge for you."

Er Ya shook her head, wiped away her tears, and stood up to leave. Liu Jingyu quickly grabbed her, "How about we become friends? My name is Liu Jingyu, what's your name?"

Before Er Ya could answer, they heard a voice from afar, "Young Master, Young Master, where are you?"

Upon hearing someone call out, Liu Jingyu hurriedly took off a jade pendant from his body and placed it in Er Ya's hand. "This is my thing. When you come to Hongsheng Grand Restaurant to visit me, show them the jade pendant, and you'll be able to find me. I'm very familiar with their boss."

After saying that, she left in a hurry. Er Ya glanced at the jade pendant in her hand and put it in her pocket without caring about it.

After crying for a while, I released some of the grievances I had accumulated over the past two days. Seeing that it was getting late, I remembered what Grandma Shen had said before she left.

Not wanting to go hungry, Er Ya cheered up and continued her search for food to fill her stomach.

Afraid of running into the same group again, she dared not linger at the foot of the mountain. She decided to walk further into the mountains, and as she walked, she unknowingly found herself deep in the mountains.

As they were walking forward, Er Ya suddenly noticed some familiar red flowers in the bushes. She quickly ran over, parted the bushes, and finally saw the plant in person.

There was a striking red five-petaled flower with a white ring around its stamen. The more Er Ya looked at it, the more certain she became, and her voice trembled with excitement, "Ginseng...this is wild ginseng!"
