Chapter Two: The Guilty-Hearted Big Girl

Upon hearing this, Old Lady Shen quickly picked up the last piece of meat and placed it in Jinbao's bowl.

Daya stared longingly at the meat in Jinbao's bowl, then looked back at her mother, Niu Shi, who was wolfing down her rice. She thought to herself, "Even though there's no meat, the cabbage with the meat flavor is delicious! I have to take this opportunity to eat more."

Jinbao picked up the piece of meat and said to Daya and Erya, "Meat is still the best. We can't get some of the cheap stuff."

Then he put the meat in his mouth and chewed it in a very exaggerated way.

Er Ya was too lazy to pay attention to this little brat.

He picked up a little cabbage and ate it with the cornbread. After finishing, he picked up the bowl of thin corn porridge that was so thin you could see your reflection in it and drank it down in one gulp.

After all, I hadn't eaten all day; half a cornbread and a bowl of thin porridge weren't even enough to fill a tooth gap.

As soon as her hand reached into the basket of cornbread, Old Mrs. Shen slapped it down: "Are you a reincarnated starving ghost? You've eaten so much and you're still eating! Hurry up and clean it up and wash it. If I don't tell you what to do, you won't know what to do."

Er Ya was clearing away the dishes when Jiang's mother, feeling sorry for her daughter, was about to go over and help.

Old Mrs. Shen shouted, "There's so much work to do! The clothes are still piled up there unwashed. How many people do you need to wash a dish?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang's mother had no choice but to go wash the clothes, leaving Er Ya to wash the dishes herself.

After finally finishing washing the dishes and digesting the food she had just eaten, Er Ya stepped out of the kitchen and was immediately slapped in the face.

Er Ya took the blow head-on, lost a lot of blood, and hadn't eaten enough.

The slap made her see stars, and she didn't recover for a long time. "Mom, what are you doing?" Lin Jianguo came over and asked. When Old Mrs. Shen saw Lin Jianguo come over to ask, she was furious.

"Second brother, look at your daughter! She shouldn't have been born into our family. I should have thrown her into a ravine to feed the wolves the moment she was born. She was born to torment me! Look at this dishwater! Instead of feeding the pigs, she actually threw it away! Does she think she's the daughter of a rich family?"

Er Ya was shocked. What? This stuff, which looks like clear water, is going to be used to feed pigs? This is truly an eye-opener.

When Lin Jianguo heard what Grandma Shen said, he reached out to help Er Ya up and said to the old lady, "Mother, Er Ya was probably too busy today and forgot for a moment."

Upon hearing this, Old Lady Shen immediately exploded, "She's busy? I asked her to gather pig feed today, and she went out for half a day without gathering anything. When she came back, she slept in the house for half a day. It was Daya who gathered the pig feed."

They didn't mention at all why she was sleeping in the house during the day.

Also, Er Ya, who received the original owner's memories, knew that she was the one who picked the pig feed.

As soon as they reached the mountain, Daya ran off, leaving Erya alone. Erya had almost finished gathering pig feed when Daya returned, bringing her brother with her.

For some reason, Lin Jinbao insisted that she had candy in her pocket. Candy was a rare commodity these days, and he couldn't believe that a half-grown child like Er Ya could possibly have candy. He kept forcing Er Ya to hand over the candy, thinking that such a good thing was only fit for him, the only grandson of the Lin family.

No matter how much Lin Jinbao threatened or bribed her, Er Ya wouldn't give him any candy, which made Lin Jinbao furious and he threw a stone at her.

Moreover, it was clearly her who cut the pig feed, so why would Old Lady Shen think that it was Daya who cut it? Er Ya glanced at Daya, who was watching the commotion, and quickly pretended to be very busy, with a guilty expression.

Er Ya didn't want to expose her anymore. As long as she knew what kind of person she was, that was enough. She would just have to be careful in the future. Seeing that Old Lady Shen was still cursing angrily, she didn't want to get entangled in the matter any longer. She would rather have taken a nap.

Back in the house, as she sat on the edge of the bed thinking about how to change the home, she heard the door open. Looking up, she saw that it was Jiang's mother who had returned.

"Er Ya, are you alright? Does your head still hurt?" As she spoke, she started to cry.

"It's all my fault, I didn't take good care of you, my poor daughter."

Er Ya was at a loss in the face of this situation. In her previous life, she lost her mother at a young age and did not know how to get along with her mother. Looking at Jiang Shi who was crying, she did not know how to comfort her.

Just then, Lin Jianguo returned and asked, "What's wrong with you two?"

After saying that, she looked at Er Ya's head injury with heartache and asked, "Er Ya's head injury, what happened? Why is there so much blood?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang's mother forgot all about crying and angrily said:

"It was all done by your good nephew. Mother is still siding with him. So much blood was shed, and when I wanted to get Er Ya an egg, Mother wouldn't even let me. Er Ya is her own granddaughter too."

After saying that, she started crying again. Lin Jianguo quickly hugged Jiang's mother and comforted her, "Alright, alright, your mother is getting senile. Don't take it to heart. You and Er Ya have been busy all day and are tired. Go and rest."

Jiang's mother said, "All you do is try to smooth things over. From the time Er Ya was little until now, every time Jin Bao bullied her, I always sided with Jin Bao, and you never said anything for Er Ya."

That's what she said, but she also knew that her man was just that honest, and no matter how much she said, she couldn't change him.

When it was time for bed, Er Ya finally understood why there were two blankets. It turned out that the three of them only had one room and one bed. Er Ya was already four years old, but she still had to squeeze into a small bed with her parents.

Nothing was said that night.

The next day, just as dawn was breaking and the rooster crowed, Old Mrs. Shen's cursing voice came from outside the door.

"What time is it? Everyone else has already come back from the fields, and I'm still lying in bed sleeping. Oh dear, I'm really unlucky. How did I end up with such a useless old hen and a good-for-nothing girl?"

In Old Mrs. Shen's eyes, Jiang's mother, who only had one daughter, was a hen that couldn't lay eggs.

Upon hearing this, Jiang's mother immediately got up and hurriedly walked out the door. After several years of marriage, she knew that she had not given birth to a son for the Lin family, and Old Madam Shen had always disliked her. She also blamed her own body for being useless, as she had not been able to get pregnant again since giving birth to Er Ya.

Er Ya, who was dreaming of delicious food, was also woken up. She hadn't eaten enough last night and was so hungry that she couldn't fall asleep until midnight.

I opened my eyes and saw that it was still the same impoverished house. I could hear the veiled insults coming from outside, so I had no choice but to get up quickly.

Only after stepping outside the gate can one see what the courtyard looks like. My family lives in the side room next to the kitchen, my uncle's family lives in the west room, and Old Man Lin and Old Woman Shen live in the east room.

The yard is quite large. To the east is the pigsty, next to the outhouse. A little further on is a large vegetable garden. The garden has just been tilled and hasn't been planted yet. Planting will begin when the weather gets warmer.

A rooster was leading a flock of hens, leisurely scavenging for insects in the soil.

Old Mrs. Shen was cursing over there, but seeing that no one was idle, she stopped to rest. The Niu family only got up after Jiang's mother and Er Ya had almost finished preparing the meal.

Old Mrs. Shen only glanced at it and said nothing. Mrs. Niu said ingratiatingly, "Mother, look. She worked in the fields all day yesterday and slept like a log."
