Chapter 60 Shushu

Zhao Shu came out in a hurry without wearing a cloak. A cold wind blew, and she shivered. Wei Tingsi took off his cloak and draped it over her shoulders. The black cloak was very long, covering Zhao Shu's ankles.

She was a little unaccustomed to being suddenly draped in someone else's cloak. The cloak had a pleasant, faint sandalwood scent. While trying to avoid physical contact with her, Wei Tingsi tied the straps for her.

"Aren't you cold, sir?" Zhao Shu's gaze fell on his extremely thin gray robe. He stood tall and imposing, like a sharp sword waiting to be drawn, exuding an overbearing aura. Anyone with a weaker presence would not even have the courage to stand up straight in front of him.

Wei Tingsi remained silent, gesturing for Zhao Shujing to listen.

From inside the study, Prince Yong asked, "Do you still remember this box?"

Jiang Yue's terrified voice rang out, "How come this box is still here?"

Prince Yong placed a sandalwood box inlaid with South Sea pearls on the table, took out a key from his pocket, and slowly opened it. “Back then, Ying’er said that on her birthday, her father-in-law gave you one and Ying’er one, both exactly the same. Ying’er said that although you two are not from the same mother, you are closer than siblings. She was grateful for your love for her, so she kept this box. Yours is probably long gone, I don’t know where it is now.”

Seeing the grief on Prince Yong's face as he mentioned Jiang Ying, Jiang Yue felt a surge of jealousy and anger. She said, "Yes, what I hate most in this life is having the same thing as her, Jiang Yue. My appearance is given by my parents, and I can't change it, so I can only let her die!"

"Now, you don't even bother to hide the truth anymore!" Prince Yong suddenly slammed his fist on the table and glared at Jiang Yue. "How can your heart be so cruel! Ying'er has always treated you like her own sister. She has everything she has, and she lets you have everything too. How can you not be satisfied?"

"Yes, I am cruel. Jiang Ying is kind-hearted and treats me well in every way. But Huai Lang, do you know the suffering of being pitied? My mother died early, and Jiang Ying and her daughter have always pitied me and cared for me. Yes, she is rich and doesn't need the Marquis's mansion to give her money. She can travel all over the country and play wildly. So she gives me leftovers. If she really treats me as her own sister, why doesn't she give me a share of the profits? Why does she want to compete with me for you?" She started crying again, her face streaked with tears, looking extremely pitiful, as if the whole world had wronged her and let her down.

Prince Yong shook his head, realizing there was no point in exchanging words, and took a bottle from the box, placing it on the table. "Do you remember this?"

Jiang Yue looked at the bottle and retreated in horror, "You..." She couldn't speak.

Prince Yong picked up the bottle and walked to her. "Back then, Ying'er was pregnant with twins. The imperial physician said the fetuses were healthy and Ying'er's body could handle it. She would definitely give me a son and a daughter. But you switched her pregnancy-preserving medicine. Ying'er treated you with all her heart. How could you bear it! Before she passed away, she lay in my arms and begged me not to hold a grudge against you. Do you know how much pain she was in? First, you plotted to ruin her reputation, but I saw through your scheme. Then you plotted to make her fall ill from worry. Finally, you gave her a bowl of poison, which took her away from me forever!"

He angrily pulled a piece of paper from the box. A man doesn't easily shed tears, but only when he is truly heartbroken. His trembling hands gripped the yellowed letter tightly.

Jiang Yue snatched the letter. She desperately wanted to know what the letter that had brought tears to the eyes of the person she admired was about. When she saw the contents of the letter, she collapsed to the ground, crying out, "Jiang Ying, Jiang Ying, even if you die, you won't let me have an easy time!"

Upon hearing this, Zhao Shu was eager to know the contents of the letter. Wei Tingsi seemed to understand her perfectly. He leaped onto the roof, moved a glazed tile aside, and looked at the letter in Jiang Yue's hand. After reading the contents, he leaped down to Zhao Shu's side and said, "May I borrow your handkerchief?"

Zhao Shu handed him the handkerchief, and he picked up a soft stone and wrote down everything he had read on the handkerchief. Because it was not pen and ink, some parts were not clear, but it was enough for Zhao Shu to understand.

The message was short, simply: "Jiang Yue, are you well? You must be suffering terribly. Did Little Monkey not marry you? Of course, he only has me in his heart. Even if I die, you will get nothing. Do you still hate me now? Hate me then. The more you hate me, the more it proves you are in pain. After drinking that bowl of poison, I knew your fate. Your life was wasted. You will get nothing. How ridiculous. Years later, others will still remember me, Jiang Ying, but who will know who you are? I will always be above you."

Jiang Yue was devastated upon reading the letter, but Zhao Shu felt an indescribable grief. By the time she learned of the betrayal, she was already at the end of her life. No matter how carefree she pretended to be, even if she won the whole world, she was still gone.

Inside the study, Jiang Yue laughed maniacally, "Who says I can't get anything? I'm about to marry Huai Lang, I'm the Princess Consort of Yong!"

Prince Yong poured himself a cup of tea, then poured the medicine from the bottle into the cup. "Drink it."

Jiang Yue stared blankly at the teacup in Prince Yong's hand, then backed away, supporting herself with her hands on the ground. "What are you going to give me to drink?"

"What did you give Ying'er to drink? Have you forgotten?" Prince Yong approached and slowly handed her the teacup.

"You actually want to kill me!" Jiang Yue shouted. "Don't you want to know where Song Tianhe is? Jiang Ying is so desperate to find Song Tianhe. If I die, Song Tianhe will die with me!"

"I am just a man who has lost his wife and children. Whoever killed my wife and children, I will seek revenge on them. Even if you bring out ten Song Tianhes today, they will not survive." Prince Yong approached, his strength was unusually great at this moment. He suddenly grabbed Jiang Yue's chin. She tried to struggle, but she was no match for Prince Yong.

Her mouth was pried open, and Prince Yong poured the entire cup of tea into her mouth. Even though she tried to knock the teacup over, she couldn't budge Prince Yong's hand no matter what she did. His strength was too great, as if he had used up all his strength.
