Mo Jing's body stiffened slightly. Although she didn't dislike his approach, she still felt a little embarrassed. It took her a while to find her voice and say, "I'm going to cook."
Finally, I took that pile of vegetables and started chopping them one by one.
Her movements weren't very skilled; Mo Jing wasn't someone who liked going into the kitchen, but she could still cook basic meals, though they weren't particularly delicious.
Ling Moyuan stood to the side, occasionally handing Mo Jing salt or soy sauce, creating a rather subtle atmosphere.
Finally, in their first collaboration, they managed to complete a dish of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, Kung Pao chicken, and a bowl of crucian carp soup.
The taste wasn't particularly good, but Ling Moyuan ate it bit by bit, seemingly enjoying it. Occasionally, he would pick up a few pieces of food and give them to Mo Jing.
"How's the investigation into Xu Yan's case going?" Mo Jing hadn't wanted to ask this question before, because she thought Ling Moyuan would tell her on his own.
But even though he had almost finished his bowl of rice, he still didn't move.
Ling Moyuan placed a piece of chicken from his chopsticks into Mo Jing's bowl and said, "Eat first, I'll tell you after you finish."
Mo Jing pursed her lips, then silently lowered her head to eat the rice in her bowl, even though she didn't have a very good appetite.
After finishing the meal, Mo Jing quietly tidied up the dishes on the table. Ling Moyuan gently stopped her from doing so and said, "Let me do it."
Mo Jing looked at him, her eyes filled with deep suspicion.
"It's just washing dishes, I can handle it." He pulled Mo Jing aside and started doing the dishes himself. "Go and rest for a while."
After taking the bowls and chopsticks inside, Mo Jing sat in the living room, feeling somewhat bored. When she saw a document on the coffee table, for some reason, she inexplicably opened it.
The contents inside are all materials from Ling Moyuan's investigation into Xu Yan's cause of death.
As she scrolled down the pages, she came across the killer's information, which included a photograph.
Breathing was difficult, and I remembered the tragic death of Xu Yan that day.
“This man is Chen Sheng, a retired special forces soldier.” Ling Moyuan appeared there at some point, his tall and imposing figure standing there like a god. He slowly approached her, sat down on the sofa chair next to her, and said, “He is now the personal bodyguard of Miss Li.”
Mo Jing blinked, then said with some difficulty, "Is it Li Yixue from the Li family in the capital?"
Li Yixue—others might not know, but she certainly did.
Like Bai Sihang, Li Yixue is the heir to one of the four great families of Kyoto. While the other families have many descendants, Li Yixue, like Bai Sihang, is an only child. However, she is nearly seven or eight years younger than Bai Sihang, so they don't usually interact much.
But why would he send someone to kill Xu Yan? Logically speaking, Xu Yan was a woman from the countryside, and she was in a place far away from the capital. There was no way he could have any interaction with her. What could have made him so cruel as to kill her?
Ling Moyuan nodded, his deep, mellow voice revealing undisguised concern. "We don't yet know why Li Yixue killed Xu Yan. But I will continue to investigate. I know what you're thinking, and I won't advise you to give up on revenge. I only have one request: before you do anything, consider your own safety." Actually, for Ling Moyuan, taking action against the Li family might be troublesome, but he didn't care about that. What he cared about was Mo Jing's feelings. She was a proud person; her friend had died a violent death, and she would definitely want to avenge him personally.
