Chapter 228 Farewell

Shen Guangsheng knocked on the door for a long time but no one answered. He stormed off, thinking that he would definitely teach Shen Heng a lesson when he saw him next time.

Who knew that after staying home for half a month, Shen Heng and Bai Jiaojiao were going to take the train to university in the county town in February.

Sending the two of them off was a major event for the whole village and even the entire production team. Tractors had come, and Zheng Xu wanted to personally take them there.

Bai Jiaojiao didn't bring much. She had two suitcases filled with her and Shen Heng's clothes, a down comforter wrapped in a bundle, and two small personal bags for food and other necessities on the train. Their admission notices were also placed inside.

They only took a few dozen yuan with them when they set off. Bai Jiaojiao sent the rest of the money through the post office and received it upon arrival. Otherwise, if they put it in a savings account, they would have to pay a handling fee to withdraw it in Yancheng.

They traveled light, with Bai Jiaojiao intending to prepare something in Yancheng, so there was no need for her to exhaust herself on the road.

The variety of goods available in Yancheng is definitely greater than what she could buy in Shili Village.

The entire village of Shili was filled with a joyful atmosphere. The tractor rattled along, and the drum team came in handy again, playing music all the way for two miles.

When passersby asked them questions, they proudly said, "These are two college students from our village, going to university in Yancheng!"

The cheerful atmosphere along the way made the already cold weather feel less biting.

Zheng Xu was driving the tractor, and in addition to Bai Jiaojiao and Shen Heng, Bai Shihai and Bai Shiqing also went along to see them off.

"Once you arrive in Yancheng, give us a call immediately. If you encounter any difficulties while you're out there, tell your family right away, okay?" Bai Shiqing instructed.

Bai Shihai added, "There are bound to be inconveniences when you're traveling. You're unfamiliar with the place, unlike at home. Although distant water can't quench a nearby fire, sometimes it might actually be of help."

"I know, big brother, second sister, don't worry. We'll go together and look after each other."

As Bai Jiaojiao spoke, she took Shen Heng's hand.

Bai Shihai glanced at Shen Heng and said, "Brother-in-law, please don't be angry with me for saying a few words. Everyone in our village knows you have a bad temper, but since you're new here, please consider Jiaojiao's feelings in everything you do."

Bai Shihai was afraid that Shen Heng would be angry if he heard this, but for Bai Jiaojiao's sake, he had no choice but to speak up.

As the saying goes, husband and wife are one, so if Shen Heng causes any trouble outside, Bai Jiaojiao will also be implicated.

Shen Heng wasn't so oblivious to polite words as to reply, "I know what I'm doing, brother, don't worry."

Bai Shihai nodded, thinking that since he had already mentioned Bai Jiaojiao, Shen Heng would definitely restrain his temper for her sake.

He lowered his voice again: "Jiaojiao, you've done a good job running this business at home, but if you go there, you won't have any connections, and you don't know how strict they are over there. Don't rush to make money right now. If you don't have enough money, just write back and ask us for it."

Seeing that Bai Shihai was worrying too much, Bai Shiqing immediately said, "Alright, big brother, don't worry. This Jiaojiao definitely knows better than us. Besides, didn't the government just reward them with a total of 1,200 yuan? With so much money, how could they be short of money?"

When the money arrived, it shocked Bai Jiaojiao.

She knew that local governments would give scholarships to students who were admitted to Peking University, but since the college entrance examination had just been reinstated and it was the first year, she and Shen Heng each received 600 yuan, which was equivalent to what a three-generation family could earn in a year without eating or drinking.

However, it cannot be ruled out that the county wanted to promote them as role models, and given their special relationship, the amount of money was indeed considerable; for an ordinary person, it could last for four years!

“They’re so extravagant. Do you think this is a big city like ours? Here, you can’t even spend your money. Why don’t you try going to Yancheng?” Bai Shihai looked at Bai Jiaojiao again. “I’m not saying you should live frugally. I just want to say that if you don’t have money, you should tell your family. Your sister-in-law earns quite a bit every day now, and your third brother can take care of himself. There’s no place at home to spend money, so he can save up. Don’t be embarrassed.”

Bai Shibo's blind dates during his Chinese New Year trip home were all turned off again. Bai Shihai estimated that there would be no more happy events in the family for at least three years, unless he and Deng Min had another child.

Upon hearing this, Bai Shiqing also said, "I can also support your two sons. You can spend your money freely in Yancheng, don't let those classmates look down on you!"

When you're out in the world, isn't saving face all you have to do?

If you have money, don't act shabby.

Bai Jiaojiao was somewhat moved. She said, "Heng and I have saved some money this year. Although building the house cost a bit, it's enough. I know the expenses in Yancheng, so don't worry, we have enough money."

"We're saying this because when things get tough, it means you have your family backing you up, so don't be afraid of anything!"

Bai Shiqing moved closer to Bai Jiaojiao, feeling a pang of sadness at the thought that Bai Jiaojiao would soon be getting into the car and leaving.

The journey to the county town had never been so fast. When they arrived at the train station, Bai Shiqing grabbed Bai Jiaojiao and gave her a bunch of random instructions, even more so than Bai Shihai had been earlier.

"Alright, alright, let go of the little sister and let the captain say a few words to her."

Seeing that his two younger sisters' eyes were red and they were about to cry, Bai Shihai quickly tugged at Bai Shiqing's sleeve.

When Bai Shiqing was pulled to Bai Shihai's side, she still cried: "Big brother, you're saying that the next time we meet will be in July? That's too long."
