"She's still your class monitor?" Ji Guizhang frowned.
"Yes, she has been the class monitor for two consecutive years."
Chen Meizhen benefited a lot from being the class monitor. First of all, being a class monitor was a big plus when it came to scholarships.
Last year, when scholarships were awarded, Chen Meizhen, because of the extra points she received as class monitor, pushed out many students with better academic performance than her.
"I'll explain this to your homeroom teacher."
Ji Guizhang found it ironic that such a person could be a good class leader, help the teacher manage the class, and set an example for the students.
"Well, teacher, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
"You did a great job this time. After the exchange meeting, I will apply to the college for some awards for you."
It's only fair to have both rewards and punishments. Ji Guizhang now knows that Bai Jiaojiao has been wronged. If Bai Jiaojiao hadn't done well this time, even though it wasn't her fault, she would definitely have been the one criticized if the news were reported. She was an innocent victim.
"Thank you, teacher!"
Bai Jiaojiao didn't go to find Shen Heng, but instead went back to her dormitory and found Shu Manling, and told her about it.
"This is a great opportunity. The semester is only halfway over. If you can be elected class monitor, and with the overall assessment for class monitor, you'll definitely get this year's scholarship!"
Bai Jiaojiao knew that Shu Manling was having a hard time, and she knew even better why Shu Manling was having such a hard time. She felt that Shu Manling's resistance was right, so she wanted to help her.
However, as a friend, giving or lending money directly would hurt Shu Manling's self-esteem. All Bai Jiaojiao could do was cook a nice meal for Shu Manling every ten days or so to improve her diet.
But if she could get a scholarship, Shu Manling's life would be much easier, at least she wouldn't have to eat plain steamed buns and rely on the free soup from the cafeteria every day.
In the past, when Chen Meizhen was running for class monitor, everyone in the class knew that Chen Meizhen's father was a teacher at the college, so no one competed with her. Even if someone did compete, most people would still choose Chen Meizhen, not out of flattery, but because no one wanted to offend her.
But since Chen Meizhen can no longer be the class monitor, everyone has a chance. Bai Jiaojiao can't help Shu Manling with anything else, so she can only encourage her to try.
Upon hearing this, Shu Manling said, "This is truly a great opportunity."
She's reached a certain age, and her mind isn't as clear as Xu Yue's. Even if she studies as hard as Bai Jiaojiao, there's too much and too many things to learn in university, and she's surrounded by outstanding people. Her grades are already the result of her best efforts, ranking sixth or seventh out of twenty people. If she were ranked in the top tier of the grade, it would be even worse.
She was really envious of the class committee's comprehensive assessment results; whether she could have a better life next year depended on this.
Xu Yue gloated, "I knew she'd get what's coming to her sooner or later. She's always so arrogant and nosy, and her grades are just so-so. She even has the nerve to run for class monitor this semester. Pshaw! I think the department is too lenient. If I were the dean, I'd expel her on the spot!"
If Chen Meizhen is expelled directly, she won't come to live in the dormitory anymore. Out of sight, out of mind, she can live several years longer.
"She almost got me into trouble this time."
"That's what happens when you're so capable! Not only did you avoid being scammed this time, you actually did a great job!"
Xu Yue happily took Bai Jiaojiao's arm and said to Shu Manling, "Come on, let's go to a restaurant today, it's my treat, to reward our hero!"
Before Shu Manling could answer, the two men dragged her away.
Shen Heng went back home alone at noon to feed the dog. He broke off a steamed bun for Bai Doudou and soaked some of his leftover vegetable soup in it. He said, "Your sister is so busy right now, she doesn't have time to take care of you. She brought you back, so I have to feed you. From now on, you have to be close to me, understand?"
Bai Doudou kept wiggling its tail while eating, not even lifting its head, ignoring him.
"whispering sound."
Shen Heng took a nap on the sofa while holding Bai Doudou. Bai Jiaojiao came back and saw Shen Heng curled up on the small sofa.
Upon hearing the commotion of Bai Jiaojiao's return, Bai Doudou jumped down and circled around Bai Jiaojiao.
Shen Heng vaguely saw this scene and thought to himself that all his efforts to persuade her had been in vain; she still loved her sister more.
Are you done with your work?
"Teacher Ji said she would give me half a day off."
Tomorrow's meeting won't be under Bai Jiaojiao's jurisdiction anymore; other students will be in charge. Bai Jiaojiao can finally get some rest.
Shen Heng stretched his arms and legs, stood up, and asked, "Have you had lunch?"
"You've already eaten and are back. Have you eaten yet? I hope DouDou isn't starving while waiting for her sister to come back for dinner."
Bai Jiaojiao touched Bai Doudou's little belly and was relieved to find it round and plump.
"You care about DouDou but not about me."
“Isn’t this the same thing? I’m going to take a nap on the kang (heated brick bed). I’m feeling relaxed and a little sleepy. After I wake up, I’ll go to the hospital to see my brother. I haven’t been able to visit him much these past few days.”
Bai Jiaojiao yawned after she finished speaking.
"Come on, let's sleep together."
Sleeping is good; it's easier for him to apply the patch when he's asleep.
The two slept peacefully at home, with even Bai Doudou sprawled out in its doghouse, snoring away. But Ding Shifang was not so content at home.
She hadn't slept well since meeting Bai Jiaojiao in Yancheng, but she thought that Bai Jiaojiao must have taken advantage of the recent easing of tensions to struggle to come to Yancheng in an attempt to regain her parents' affection. She thought that as long as she protected her home and the factory, she wouldn't give Bai Jiaojiao any opportunity to take advantage of her.
It wasn't until she saw Bai Jiaojiao at the gate of Yanda University that she realized that Ding's parents had pulled strings to get her into the choir, and had even bribed the teacher in charge to allow her to participate in the welcoming ceremony. Yet, Bai Jiaojiao was standing right next to the leaders of Yanda University!
No, we absolutely cannot let Bai Jiaojiao achieve anything. She should stay in the dark sewers like a rat and never have anything to do with people like the Jiang family.
Ding Shifang tossed and turned for two nights before finally coming up with an excellent solution.
A smirk curled at the corner of her lips, looking somewhat sinister.
Ding Shifang went downstairs and saw her mother talking on the phone with her friend, chatting about something happy.
She stood to one side, waiting to use the phone. When Ding's mother saw her, she waved her hand impatiently and pointed to the sofa, telling her to sit there.
Ding's mother increasingly felt that her own daughter had no sense of propriety at all. Although Jiaojiao was a bit willful in the past, at least she had never embarrassed her when she was taken out.
Ding Shifang sensed that she had once again disgusted her mother. The excitement she had felt when she came up with a solution vanished, replaced by unease.
Ding's mother talked for ten minutes, but after hanging up the phone, her expression wasn't as happy as before.
"Do you need to use the phone? You can use it now."
Ding's mother told Ding Shifang.
"Thank you, Mom."
