Bai Jiaojiao snorted coldly.
"Give that ten yuan to Heng-ge before tonight. If you're a day late, you'll have to kneel down and apologize!" Bai Jiaojiao said sarcastically. "Ten yuan is a lot of money for us, but Yu Zhiqing, your family is so well-off, you shouldn't be short of money, right?"
Yu Wenli was still being held by Shen Heng, a bead of sweat sliding down his forehead and dripping in front of him.
I'll give you the money in two days.
Bai Jiaojiao knew that Yu Wenli was not a rich man at all, and she smirked: "Give it to me whenever you want. Before you give it to me, just remember to come and apologize to me every day."
"You!" Yu Wenli looked up, his eyes filled with a desire to devour Bai Jiaojiao alive.
But in Bai Jiaojiao's eyes, he was nothing more than an impotent rage.
"Alright, Bai Jiaojiao!" Li Lide frowned, feeling that things had gotten too ugly. "Ten yuan is not a small amount. If you take it from him, how will he live? I've made the decision. Give him two days to work on it, and you can pay me after the wheat harvest!"
Bai Jiaojiao glanced at Li Lide, knowing that she should give the village chief face at this moment.
He then glanced at Yu Wenli and said, "For the sake of the village chief, I'll let you off for now. Heng-ge, let's go."
Bai Jiaojiao rode her bicycle out of the crowd. She knew that Yu Wenli must hate her now, and given Yu Wenli's character, he would definitely take revenge in the future.
When the time comes, we'll see if she retaliates in kind.
The onlookers continued to chatter, and Li Lide watched Bai Jiaojiao's departing figure, a surge of anger rising in his chest.
"Alright, alright, get back to work!"
As soon as they stepped out of the crowd, Shen Heng grabbed the handlebars of the bicycle and forced Bai Jiaojiao to stop.
Bai Jiaojiao looked up and asked, "What's wrong, Brother Heng?"
Looking up at Shen Heng's face, his handsome features gleamed in the sunlight, and Bai Jiaojiao couldn't help but smile.
Shen Heng had many questions, but when Bai Jiaojiao stared at him with her crescent-shaped eyes, he frowned for a moment and simply asked, "Where are you going?"
“We have nothing at home, I want to go to the dock to buy some shrimp.”
The "our family" that Bai Jiaojiao mentioned was an unfamiliar term to Shen Heng.
Shen Heng had almost forgotten when he had lost his home. With the guidance of the villagers, he slowly accepted his fate.
Looking at the person before him, as pure as a lilac, Shen Heng was so blinded by the light that he closed his eyes briefly.
“What good things could there be at the dock? Let me take you to the supply and marketing cooperative. Come on,” Shen Heng said, looking at the back seat. “Get in and sit down.”
"The supply and marketing cooperative is in Xiangyang Village. Won't that interfere with your work?" Bai Jiaojiao said this, and had already obediently sat on the back of the bicycle.
Shen Heng's back stood before her, as solid as a small mountain.
Bai Jiaojiao reached out and hugged his waist. Shen Heng's limbs stiffened instantly, and the bicycle lurched as soon as it started moving. Bai Jiaojiao was almost thrown off.
"Are you alright?" Shen Heng hadn't expected Bai Jiaojiao to suddenly hug him. He said gruffly, "Don't move!"
"I didn't move," Bai Jiaojiao leaned against Shen Heng's back and said coquettishly, "This road is too bumpy, Heng-ge, I'm afraid I'll fall off."
Shen Heng frowned and remained silent for a long time before finally uttering a perfunctory complaint: "It's so hot."
But he didn't let Bai Jiaojiao let go again.
Bai Jiaojiao now just wants to stick close to Shen Heng, as his wife, so that she can rightfully be close to him.
Shen Heng couldn't ignore the hand gripping his waist, so he exhaled heavily and pedaled harder.
Shen Heng felt a sense of upheaval within him.
On Bai Jiaojiao's first day in the village, Shen Heng was immediately aroused by her beauty. He originally thought he could only have lustful thoughts, but he never expected to actually marry her.
He felt that his marriage to Bai Jiaojiao was entirely due to taking advantage of her vulnerability.
Let alone Bai Jiaojiao, even the girl in the village who was most worried about getting married would definitely not be interested in him.
But Bai Jiaojiao seemed willing.
Not only did she go along with him last night, but today she also acknowledged him and relied on him in front of others.
So Shen Heng is outwardly stern-faced, but in reality his heart is pounding so hard it's frightening.
The sun was blazing in the sky, and it was truly hot.
When Bai Jiaojiao arrived at the supply and marketing cooperative, she didn't have any coupons, but she knew that the sales clerks there had some left and were willing to sell them.
There weren't many people in the brigade's supply and marketing cooperative. She walked over to the grain stall, whispered a few words to the person there, and exchanged 10 jin of grain coupons for 1 mao per jin. She then bought 10 jin of wheat flour, which cost a total of 1.3 yuan.
Bai Jiaojiao followed the same method and went to the pork stall: "Hello, I'd like half a pound of pork."
The butcher at the pork stall had already placed the tip of her knife against the lean meat, but she recognized Shen Heng. Seeing Shen Heng glaring at her angrily, she reluctantly shifted the knife to the side, pretending to cut off a piece of fat.
Although people in later generations love to eat lean meat, people nowadays don't have much oil in their stomachs, so the fattier the meat, the better, ideally meat that's so oily it drips when you eat it.
"Big sister, cut this piece off for me!"
Bai Jiaojiao pointed to a piece of pork belly with alternating layers of fat and lean meat. Good pork belly is hard to come by, but the piece that Bai Jiaojiao had her eye on was just okay; it would be fine for making braised pork.
"Okay, this one will do."
The sales clerk smiled and nodded obsequiously at Shen Heng, but Shen Heng ignored her.
After they left, the saleswoman watched their retreating figures and spat out a "Pah!"
He muttered, "You might be able to buy meat, but you also need to be able to eat it! Let's see how long you can live after marrying this nemesis!"
Bai Jiaojiao was unaware that the saleswoman was two-faced, and even if she did, she didn't want to stoop to her level.
She then bought two zucchini, a head of cabbage, a pound of eggs, and a pound of shrimp.
