Chapter 144 Hidden Bloodstains

Liang Zichen nervously hid in a corner against the wall, the sounds outside the room coming and going intermittently. He gripped his pistol and slowly made his way towards the door.

The sound seemed to have disappeared, which made Liang Zichen even more nervous. He waited by the door for a moment, then darted out into the hallway. He scanned the area from where he stood, but found no suspicious figures.

Just as Liang Zichen was feeling puzzled, the strange sound suddenly rang out again. This time, Liang Zichen heard it clearly. The sound was coming from downstairs, and upon closer listening, it seemed to be something stepping on shards of glass.

Liang Zichen quickly took off his leather shoes and stepped onto the wooden stairs. He moved with extreme care, making sure not to make a sound. His gun remained pointed at the end of the stairwell.

Liang Zichen held his breath and descended the stairs step by step, almost reaching the top. Just then, he saw a dark figure suddenly appear at the end of the stairs.

Liang Zichen's nerves tightened again. He was only a few steps from the first floor, so he decided to strike first. Liang Zichen took a large step down the stairs, quickly reaching the bottom, then turned and pointed his gun at the opposite direction of the shadowy figure.

The moment Liang Zichen saw the dark figure, his eyes widened and he was momentarily stunned. But in that instant, Liang Zichen felt his arm being controlled by a tremendous force.

Liang Zichen's strength seemed to have been drained, and his body slumped, causing the pistol to fall into the other person's hands.

"Ouch! Captain Wang, have mercy!" Liang Zichen cried out, begging Wang Shen, who was standing behind him, for mercy.

Wang Shen sighed, released his grip on Liang Zichen's hand, and returned the pistol to Liang Zichen.

"Captain Wang, it's you." Liang Zichen frowned slightly, while rubbing his right wrist with his left hand.

"I was about to ask you the same thing, why are you acting so sneaky?"

“I thought the murderer was hiding in this house. By the way, Captain Wang, didn’t you go to check the back door of this house?” Liang Zichen explained, then looked at Wang Shen with a slightly puzzled expression.

Wang Shen sighed and then shook his head. "The back door of this house is locked."

"By the way, have you looked at all these things on the floor?" Wang Shen suddenly turned around and pointed to the messy living room.

"Also, did you not find any trace of Dean Fu Ju and Han Lin's child?" Wang Shen added.

Liang Zichen shook his head and said, "No. I've looked at all these things in the living room. Judging from the shards of glass in the lamp, there must have been a fight in this house before we arrived. The lampshade must have been broken during the fight. Also, judging from the situation at the scene, the murderer was probably looking for something."

“You guessed pretty much what I guessed. What worries me now is the safety of Dean Fu Ju and Han Lin’s child. I wonder what this person who entered the house did to them.” Wang Shen frowned.

“Dean Fu Ju and the child should be safe for the time being. Apart from the scattered items at the scene, I haven’t found any other clues.” Liang Zichen looked at Wang Shen and gave his opinion.

But after hearing Liang Zichen's words, Wang Shen immediately shook his head. "Come with me." After saying that, Wang Shen turned around and walked towards the living room.

The living room floor was originally littered with books, but now many of them are piled up in one place. This must have been done by Wang Shen.

“Look here.” Wang Shen squatted down beside the coffee table and pointed to the tile in front of him.

Liang Zichen had already checked this area, but hadn't found any further information. Now, hearing Wang Shen's words, Liang Zichen glanced at Wang Shen with a puzzled look, then, following Wang Shen's instructions, squatted down and carefully examined the tile Wang Shen was pointing to.

The tile in front of him seemed no different from the others. But upon closer inspection, Liang Zichen noticed a problem. The tiles on the first floor were all off-white, creating a strong contrast with the other colors.

Right now, there's a noticeable light red mark on this tile. It had been covered by many books earlier, so Liang Zichen hadn't noticed this detail.

"Is this blood?" Liang Zichen widened his eyes slightly and asked Wang Shen.

Wang Shen nodded and replied, "I think so. And from what we can see, this bloodstain should have been cleaned up by the murderer. Perhaps because they were in a hurry, the murderer didn't wipe it very clean. Plus, the tiles are off-white, so you can still find this clue if you look closely."

After listening to Wang Shen's words, Liang Zichen nodded. At the same time, Liang Zichen secretly regretted his negligence.

“Not just here, come and look here too.” Wang Shen stood up from the ground and walked to the drawer under the TV cabinet. “The inside of this drawer isn’t painted, so once it gets stained with blood, it’s very difficult to clean. Look at these spots inside the drawer; they’re clearly stained with blood.”

Following Wang Shen's instructions, Liang Zichen looked at the locations inside the drawer and nodded emphatically.

"But the bloodstains are only scattered here and there, and there is no large-scale occurrence. What do you think is the reason for this?" Wang Shen asked Liang Zichen while observing the situation in the room.

"The murderer targeted this place, clearly wanting to find evidence incriminating against him. Based on the clues we have so far, this evidence could very well help us find the murderer in Han Mo's case, who is the person in the picture now. Judging from the current situation at the scene, I think the murderer's initial goal was simply to find the evidence he wanted, not to kill anyone," Liang Zichen said, pursing his lips as he looked at the specks of blood in front of him.

"How did you determine the killer's initial motive?" Wang Shen asked after listening to Liang Zichen's words.

“Start with this drawer,” Liang Zichen said, pointing to the drawer in front of him. “The bloodstains are on the drawer, which means the drawer must have been opened first, and then the bleeding happened. But who opened the drawer? And why would they open it? I think it can only be the murderer.”

After speaking, Liang Zichen went to another drawer and began to carefully examine whether there were any other bloodstains. "This murderer must have been secretly observing this house for a long time. The murderer probably knew when they would leave, so they took advantage of this gap to commit the crime. However, for some reason, Dean Fu Ju and the others actually returned when the murderer was committing the crime."

“If that’s the case, then the murderer would never have allowed them to survive,” Wang Shen said, his brows furrowed.
