The panic on the little boy's face gradually disappeared. He stared at Wang Shen for a while and continued to answer, "My maternal grandmother's name is Fu Ju, Fu as in 'conformity' and Ju as in 'chrysanthemum'."
When the little boy finished speaking, Wang Shen's guess was completely confirmed. Wang Shen, still smiling, looked at the little boy and continued, "Then where is your grandmother now?"
"Grandma left after dropping me off here." The little boy's slight smile vanished, and his mood clearly somber.
Before Wang Shen could speak, he saw the little boy's smile reappear on his face. The little boy looked up at Wang Shen with a smile and said, "Grandma said she has something very important to do and will be away for a while. So she brought me here first. Grandma said it's very safe here and told me not to worry."
After the little boy finished speaking, Wang Shen inwardly cried out in alarm. Dean Fu Ju had taken the child to the police station; it seemed she had no one else she could entrust her care to. That's why she ultimately chose this safest option. What was the important thing the little boy was referring to?
Wang Shen pondered for a while and came to the worst conclusion. Had Dean Fu Ju discovered Xiao Lin's whereabouts and decided to deal with him herself? Wang Shen controlled his emotions, knowing he couldn't show his anxiety in front of the children.
"Good boy." Wang Shen praised the little boy, but a pang of sadness welled up in his heart. "You said you weren't worried. Can you tell Uncle what you've been worried about?"
Upon hearing Wang Shen's question, the little boy's composure crumbled instantly. He suddenly lowered his head, and then Wang Shen heard him cry.
Wang Shenwei frowned slightly, then gently touched the little boy's face a few times, took a tissue from the table, and wiped away the child's tears. The little boy's body was convulsing from sobbing.
Several minutes passed, and the little boy gradually calmed down. During those few minutes, Wang Shen observed the boy's reaction and was utterly astonished. At such a young age, the boy's ability to control his emotions was better than that of some adults.
Just as Wang Shen was deep in thought, the little boy took the tissue from Wang Shen's hand, wiped away his tears, and even said, "Thank you, Uncle." Indeed, those without anyone to rely on can only choose to be strong on their own. This applies to both children and adults.
The little boy hadn't forgotten Wang Shen's question, even though it was a painful memory for him. "Uncle, I'm worried about bad guys," the little boy replied, his voice choked with emotion.
"Don't be afraid. Your uncle is here now. No bad people can hurt you." Wang Shen wasn't in a hurry to find the answer to the question, but continued to comfort the little boy in front of him.
The little boy looked at Wang Shen, finally stopping his sobs, and then surprisingly smiled and nodded. After a while, the little boy continued, "That bad guy chased after Grandma and hit her, and Grandma got hurt."
The bad guy the little boy was referring to was probably Xiao Lin. But Wang Shen still wanted to confirm, so he continued, "When did that bad guy start chasing and hitting Grandma?"
“Not long ago, during the day,” the little boy replied.
Wang Shen nodded, simply smiling at the little boy without asking any further questions.
But then the little boy started talking to himself. "Later, Uncle Tang came over. I saw Uncle Tang fighting with the bad guys."
"Is Uncle Tang Uncle Tang Feng?" Wang Shen asked, taking the opportunity to follow up on the little boy's question.
"Yes, Uncle, do you know Uncle Tang too? Are you good friends?" The little boy's mood brightened considerably when he talked about Tang Feng, and his expression became more relaxed as he spoke.
To comfort the little boy, Wang Shen told a white lie: "Yes, your Uncle Tang and I are good friends, very good friends."
The little boy laughed happily, "Then you must be my dad's good friend too." After saying that, the little boy continued to giggle.
It seemed the little boy had no idea what had happened, nor did he know that these important people in his life were gone. Thinking of this, Wang Shen felt a surge of resentment towards Xiao Lin. Wang Shen secretly vowed to bring Xiao Lin to justice and make him pay the price.
"Later, I asked my grandma, 'Who would win if Uncle Tang fought the bad guy?' Grandma told me that Uncle Tang would definitely win." The little boy continued recounting the lie that Dean Fu Ju had told him, then smiled innocently.
Wang Shen currently has no way to answer any of the little boy's questions, nor can he continue to weave even better dreams for him. Wang Shen knows that, faced with reality, the dream will one day shatter. But he doesn't want to destroy the little boy's last remaining hope so soon.
"Little friend, why don't you rest here for a while? I'll have these two uncles play with you for a bit. Later, we'll take you to get some cake, okay?" Wang Shen said with a smile to the little boy.
The little boy smiled and nodded.
Wang Shen stood up from his chair again and glanced at the two police officers behind him. The two officers immediately snapped to attention and replied, "Yes, sir."
Wang Shen turned around and smiled at the little boy again, saying, "Then Uncle will go to work now."
The little boy gave a loud "hmm" and waved to Wang Shen.
When Wang Shen walked out of the office, he found Liang Zichen leaning against the wall outside the door, like a student being punished by facing the wall in self-reflection. Wang Shen took a deep breath and then sighed softly.
Wang Shen walked over to Liang Zichen, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't control my emotions just now."
Liang Zichen nodded and said, "Captain Wang, this is the first time I've seen you like this. Are you..." He stopped mid-sentence.
"We need to deal with what's in front of us first." Wang Shen pursed his lips, seemingly unwilling to continue the topic. "Based on the information provided by that little boy, our guesses are almost all accurate. Dean Fu Ju's return to the house midway through the crime suggests she witnessed Xiao Lin's actions. And now that she's taken the child to the police station, I think she's going to gamble everything."
Liang Zichen nodded. "Now we need to think about what Dean Fu Ju wants to do next."
"Stop killing with killing." When he said these four words, Wang Shen's expression was very calm, and his tone was completely unwavering.
"If Dean Fu Ju really intends to find Xiao Lin herself, the prerequisite is that she must first find Xiao Lin. Captain Wang, what do you think Dean Fu Ju's methods are for finding Xiao Lin in a short period of time?" In fact, Liang Zichen had been thinking about this question ever since he left the office.
Wang Shen's gaze suddenly deepened. He slowly said, "Actually, Dean Fu Ju didn't need to go looking for her. I think she's very clever in that respect."
