Chapter 170 Guessing the Wrong Hunting Spot

Around the floorboard that Liang Zichen pried open, about six or seven other floorboards were also loose. Han Lin's house had a joist-like frame for the floorboards, so a section underneath was openwork. Liang Zichen pried open all the loose floorboards.

Wang Shen frowned as he looked into the darkness beneath the floor.

Liang Zichen shifted his gaze from the darkness of the floor and looked at Wang Shen, saying, "Captain Wang, Han Lin probably hid something here back then. But looking at the space under the floor, it couldn't have been anything big; at most, some paper or a letter."

“Actually, all you need is some paper or a letter,” Wang Shen nodded and replied. “Han Lin just needs to explain what he wants to say. This piece of paper should be the clue that Han Lin hid here. And I guess Han Lin told Dean Fu Ju about this hiding place beforehand.”

As Liang Zichen listened to Wang Shen's words, another question arose in his mind. Liang Zichen frowned and said, "Captain Wang, we may have guessed wrong about Dean Fu Ju's motives."

Upon hearing Liang Zichen's words, Wang Shen turned to stare at him. Both men wore serious expressions, searching for flaws in their own deductions.

According to Wang Shen and Liang Zichen's original assumptions, Dean Fu Ju had chosen Han Lin's house as a hunting ground. She then set up traps inside, waiting to capture and kill Xiao Lin after he went online. Now it seems their assumptions were wrong.

"Captain Wang, do you think it's possible that Dean Fu Ju came to this room just to look for these clues, and had no intention of bringing Xiao Lin here at all?" After a moment of silence, Liang Zichen broke the silence and asked this question.

Wang Shen thought for a moment, but instead of answering Liang Zichen's question directly, he asked, "Have the people I asked you to arrange for surveillance arrived yet?"

Upon hearing Wang Shen's words, Liang Zichen glanced at his watch, nodded, and replied, "They should have arrived."

"Okay, then we'll wait here for a while." After saying that, Wang Shen walked out of the bedroom and sat back down on the sofa.

One minute, two minutes passed, and the sunlight gradually dimmed, the sky darkening. Liang Zichen kept checking his phone, but received no messages.

"Captain Wang," Liang Zichen glanced at Wang Shen sitting on the sofa, "Do you think Dean Fu Ju might not have even considered this place as a hunting spot?"

Hearing Liang Zichen's question, Wang Shen raised his head slightly and looked at Liang Zichen. "You mean to say that our guess that Dean Fu Ju's desperate plan was correct, but this isn't the hunting spot she chose?"

“That’s right.” Liang Zichen nodded sharply, then looked at the piece of paper on the coffee table. “Look, this piece of paper was left here, so Dean Fu Ju must have obtained this number. If the owner of this number is Xiao Lin, what will Dean Fu Ju do?”

“She can use this number to lure Xiao Lin out,” Wang Shen replied with a serious expression.

“However, judging from the timeline, Dean Fu Ju should have already implemented this plan after leaving the child at our police station. But so much time has passed and Dean Fu Ju still hasn’t appeared in this neighborhood, so I think she must have led Xiao Lin somewhere else.”

"Other places?" Actually, Wang Shen had been considering this possibility ever since he sat down on the sofa. Now, after Liang Zichen's analysis, Wang Shen was even more certain of this guess. But where could the other hunting spots be?

Suddenly, Wang Shen stood up from the sofa, looked at Liang Zichen and said, "Hurry up, something bad is going to happen."

After saying that, Wang Shen pushed open the door and rushed out. Liang Zichen followed behind Wang Shen until Wang Shen started the car before asking, "Captain Wang, are we going to that house in the suburbs?"

“Yes, how come I didn’t expect Dean Fu Ju to lead Xiao Lin over there?” Wang Shen tapped his steering wheel in frustration, then continued, “The most dangerous place is the safest place. Dean Fu Ju probably guessed that we would withdraw our people after investigating the scene and wouldn’t pay much attention to the crime scene anymore. According to the current speculation, Dean Fu Ju really doesn’t want us involved at all.” After saying that, Wang Shen stepped on the gas again.

The streetlights on the provincial highway weren't very bright, and it took Wang Shen quite a while to drive to the vicinity of the house. Wang Shen parked the car a little distance away from the house and then jumped out.

"Let's walk over there, be careful," Wang Shen said, glancing at Liang Zichen behind him.

Although they were said to be walking, they were actually jogging at a fairly fast pace. After running for a while, Wang Shen and Liang Zichen stopped almost simultaneously. Wang Shen pointed to the house with lights on ahead.

"Captain Wang, there really is someone in the house." Liang Zichen whispered, crawling on his stomach.

Wang Shen nodded, then continued to keep his body low, making his way through the shadows until he reached the house. The front door was locked, but the window next to it was open.

Wang Shen and Liang Zichen tiptoed to the window. Just as they were about to look up, they heard two people talking inside the room.

"You think you, an old woman, can avenge them? You're dreaming!" It was a man's voice. After saying this, the man laughed arrogantly twice.

"You beast! You'll die a horrible death!" A moment later, an old voice rang out again.

Wang Shen and Liang Zichen exchanged a glance, then simultaneously straightened up and peered through the window.

As expected, Xiao Lin and Dean Fu Ju were indeed in the house. However, the plot was vastly different from what Wang Shen and the others had imagined.

After glancing at each other, Wang Shen and Liang Zichen immediately crouched down and lay prone against the wall. "Captain Wang, Dean Fu Ju has been killed in a counterattack," Liang Zichen whispered in Wang Shen's ear.

Wang Shen nodded silently.

Just now, Wang Shen and Liang Zichen saw that Dean Fu Ju had been tied to a chair by Xiao Lin. Xiao Lin stood next to the chair, holding a fruit knife, looking at Dean Fu Ju with an arrogant expression.

"What do we do now?" Liang Zichen asked again.

Wang Shen pressed himself against the wall, walked half a circle around the house, then straightened up and pointed to the open window on the second floor.

Following Wang Shen's pointing finger, Liang Zichen also saw the open window on the second floor and smiled. "Captain Wang, how did you know there was an open window here?"

“I noticed it when I came last time,” Wang Shen replied briefly. “Do me a favor and let me climb in. By the way, notify the bureau to send a few people to help, but have them lie in ambush first and don’t make any moves until I give them my instructions.”

After saying that, Liang Zichen nodded, then squatted down and spread his palms out. The houses in the village weren't very tall, so they saw Wang Shen step on Liang Zichen's palms, and then with a little effort from the two of them, Wang Shen's hands grabbed the edge of the second-floor window.
