Before Wang Shen could even ask what had happened, he saw Xu Xiaolin run past him. At that moment, Liang Zichen ran up to Wang Shen's side.
"What happened?" Wang Shen asked Liang Zichen.
"To be honest, I don't know either. We were having a good chat, but Qi Huan got a phone call, and then this happened." Liang Zichen shrugged and shook his head as he spoke.
Wang Shen frowned slightly, then suddenly remembered something. Fortunately, he had kept the phone number of his attending physician, Wu Yi, yesterday. Wang Shen took out his phone and dialed Wu Yi's number. After a few ringing tones, Wang Shen hung up. "I roughly know where they went. Looks like something bad is going to happen. Let's go."
After saying that, Wang Shen rushed into the locker room, then rushed out again at lightning speed and got into his car.
"Captain Wang, wait for me." Liang Zichen called out from behind Wang Shen and jumped into the passenger seat. "Captain Wang, I didn't even have a chance to ask. You said you know where they went? Where did they go?" Liang Zichen asked, catching his breath as he sat in the passenger seat.
"Hospital," Wang Shen replied simply.
"A hospital? Are you sure?"
“It’s probably right. The only thing that could make Qi Huan so anxious right now, besides A-Cheng, is that I can’t think of. Also, I just called Wu Yi, but I couldn’t get through, which means he must be working. Based on these clues, they must have gone to the hospital. A-Cheng’s condition must have changed. By the way, to avoid us making a wasted trip, you can call Xu Xiaolin to confirm.” With that, Wang Shen tossed his phone to Liang Zichen.
"password?"
"No password needed, just type it in."
After Wang Shen finished speaking, Liang Zichen nodded, opened his contacts, found Xu Xiaolin's number, and dialed it.
"Hey, Sister Xu, this is Xiao Chen. Yes, it's me. Why were you leaving in such a hurry? Oh, okay, we'll be right there." Liang Zichen hung up the phone and handed it back to Wang Shen. "Captain Wang, you're incredibly insightful."
Wang Shen drove his car into the hospital building. He jumped out and rushed towards the ICU ward with Liang Zichen. As soon as they reached the entrance, they saw Xu Xiaolin comforting Qi Huan. Qi Huan was practically pressed against the glass outside the ICU, her sobs echoing down the corridor.
"How is the situation?" Wang Shen ran to Xu Xiaolin's side and asked softly.
While patting Qi Huan's shoulder to comfort her, Xu Xiaolin turned her head, glanced at Wang Shen, and gently shook her head without saying anything more. Wang Shen, sensing the situation, stopped asking questions and stood aside with Liang Zichen, awaiting the doctor's emergency diagnosis.
More than an hour later, the ICU door opened, and Wu Yi walked out.
"Doctor, how is Acheng?" Qi Huan rushed to Wu Yi like a madwoman, grabbing Wu Yi's sleeve, her eyes red and swollen, crying as she asked.
"There's no immediate danger to my life," Wu Yi said, taking off his mask and catching his breath.
Upon hearing this, Qi Huan felt slightly relieved and gradually loosened her grip on his sleeve.
“However, the situation is not good; the patient has developed an infection. You need to be mentally prepared,” Wu Yi said to Qi Huan, pursing her lips tightly and frowning.
Upon hearing this, Qi Huan tensed up again, loosened her grip, and grabbed Wu Yi's wrist once more, pleading, "Doctor, please save him, please save him." After saying this, Qi Huan burst into tears without restraint.
"Don't worry, we'll do our best," Wu Yi reassured him.
Xu Xiaolin supported Qi Huan, talking to her incessantly. Qi Huan wiped away her tears, let go of Xu Xiaolin's hand, and tried to rush into the ICU. Seeing this, Wu Yi reacted quickly, immediately blocking her way. "Given the patient's current condition, it's not suitable for him to see anyone. If you truly care about him, please wait a little longer."
Wu Yi's words were effective; Qi Huan suddenly stopped in her tracks. Her eyes lifeless, Qi Huan walked to a chair in the aisle and sat down quietly. Xu Xiaolin stayed beside her, remaining silent.
Wang Shen walked over to Wu Yi and asked in a low voice, "How is the patient's condition?"
“It’s really not good. He’s already infected and has a fever. This is a dangerous situation. I’ve arranged for nurses to monitor his vital signs 24 hours a day. However, the final outcome depends on whether the patient can pull through.” After saying this, Wu Yi finally had a moment to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
"You've worked hard. I'll stay with them a little longer." Wang Shen patted Wu Yi's arm and thanked him.
"Okay, then I'll head back to my office." With that, Wu Yi turned and disappeared at the end of the corridor.
Wang Shen and Liang Zichen stood to one side, watching Qi Huan in pain, and each sighed. Wang Shen pulled Liang Zichen aside.
"Did you notice any clues while you were talking to them?" Wang Shen asked Liang Zichen with a serious expression.
“No, Qi Huan hardly speaks, only occasionally forcing a smile. As for Xu Xiaolin, she just talks about her novels, nothing else really comes to mind.” Liang Zichen shook his head helplessly.
Wang Shen glanced at Qi Huan, shook his head, and said, "Judging from her current state, it seems she has very deep feelings for Acheng."
"Is it possible that he was faking it in front of us?" Liang Zichen clenched his right fist and kept tapping his chin.
"That's possible, but unlikely. Otherwise, this woman would be incredibly powerful." Wang Shen also looked at Qi Huan's sorrowful face.
"By the way, Captain Wang, you suddenly said you wanted to go swimming earlier. Did you notice anything?" Liang Zichen was quite quick-witted and realized that Wang Shen's real intention in going to the pool was not to swim at all.
“I didn’t find anything particularly special either, but Han Lin is indeed a suspicious person.” Wang Shen frowned and his expression became more serious when talking about his conversation with Han Lin by the pool.
"I'm a little confused. When you first saw Han Lin, he didn't attract much attention. But why did your attention suddenly increase so much later?" Liang Zichen had noticed that Wang Shen's target was Han Lin when he left his chair. However, Wang Shen's behavior changed only after Han Lin turned and left. Liang Zichen really couldn't figure this out.
"Do you still remember Song Mu's case?" Wang Shen's gaze became somewhat vacant, as if he had fallen into a brief recollection.
"I remember, he's that psychologist," Liang Zichen nodded and said.
"That's right, you remember her secretary, Xu Wen, too, right?"
"That woman who went crazy for love? How could I forget? The things she did give me nightmares even when I think about them," Liang Zichen sighed.
