It was already 11 p.m. when I got back to the school dormitory.
Everyone else was asleep, but Gu Bin was still playing CrossFire with his headphones on, having a great time.
Chen Ze came up behind him and handed him a cigarette: "Aren't you going to sleep? Be careful you'll be late tomorrow."
Gu Bin took the cigarette and put it in his mouth, looking disdainful: "Do you think I'm the kind of person who would be late? Who do you think you are?"
"I hope you can get up tomorrow morning," Chen Ze said, then went into the bathroom and took a hot shower. He felt much more refreshed afterward.
I climbed into bed and read for a while. Before I knew it, it was past midnight. A wave of drowsiness washed over me. I put the book next to my pillow and glanced at Gu Bin. I noticed that he showed no signs of sleeping and was still playing games.
He closed his eyes, trying not to think too much, and gradually drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up the next morning, he groggily glanced at the time and was shocked... Holy crap, it's eight o'clock, I'm doomed... I'm late.
He glanced at Gu Bin in the next bed and hurriedly called out, "Gu Bin, get up and stop sleeping, we're going to be late."
Gu Bin muttered, "Being late is fine, I'm not going this morning."
"Fine, I won't go then. If you don't go, I won't go either." After saying that, she lay back down, pulled the blanket over her head, and went back to sleep.
Less than a minute after he lay down, Gu Bin tiptoed out of the dormitory, folded his blanket, and then quietly left the dormitory. Once outside, he took off running towards the classroom. He lost his shoes halfway there and hurriedly turned back to pick them up and put them on.
As he passed by the small supermarket, he stopped, thinking that he couldn't just go there like that. He needed to come up with a good reason to be sure of himself. Suddenly, an idea flashed into his mind.
Gu Bin jogged into the small supermarket, bought a roll of white gauze, and then ran towards the classroom.
Two minutes later, he stood panting at the classroom door, secretly glancing at the counselor who was lecturing, took out the white gauze he had bought, rolled up his trouser leg, and wrapped it around his calf dozens of times until the gauze was completely wrapped.
Only then did he pretend to limp into the classroom.
"Counselor, I'm sorry, I was hit by a motorcycle on the way, that's why I'm late."
Counselor Cai Chunfen stepped forward. "Let me see if it's serious," she said, squatting down and pinching his foot twice. "Should I grant you a day off?"
Gu Bin waved his hand: "No need, no need."
Cai Chunfen glared at him: "I pinched you twice, how come you didn't feel any pain?"
"Ah... this... I don't know." Gu Bin stammered, unsure how to answer, thinking to himself: Oh no, I've given myself away.
Cai Chunfen pointed to the corner of the classroom: "Stand over there in the corner. You'll be punished by standing there for the whole class. You're late and you're making excuses."
Gu Bin walked reluctantly to the corner of the classroom.
Many students in the class let out "cool cool cool" laughter.
Meanwhile, Chen Ze was still fast asleep.
Finally, twenty minutes later, he was woken up by the urge to urinate. He sat up and looked at Gu Bin's bed, but there was no one there. The blankets were all folded up. He cursed, "Damn it! We agreed not to go to the classroom together. This bastard tricked me."
He hurriedly went to the toilet to relieve himself, and then rushed out of the dormitory. On the way, he thought about how to deal with the counselor and what kind of excuse he could use to persuade her.
Pretending to be sick? No way, too many people have used that excuse, it definitely won't work.
Fake injury? That's a good idea.
His idea surprisingly coincided with Gu Bin's.
Passing by a small supermarket, I quickly went in, bought a roll of gauze, and continued walking towards the classroom.
Soon, he arrived at the classroom door, rolled up his sleeves, wrapped his wrists with gauze more than a dozen times, and then hung it around his neck. But he felt that this was not miserable enough, so he wrapped it around his head a few more times before he was satisfied.
Then, he pretended to be in pain and walked into the classroom.
The counselor glanced at him and noticed that there wasn't a drop of blood on him. He said irritably, "Were you hit by a car or a motorcycle? Tell me."
At this moment, all the students could no longer hold back and burst into laughter.
Chen Ze's lips twitched, and he thought to himself: Damn, what went wrong? She noticed that.
Cai Chunfen pointed to the corner: "Go over there and stand with your roommate."
Chen Ze slowly walked to the corner, came up to Gu Bin, and raised his middle finger at him.
Gu Bin said in a low voice, "Old Chen, you capitalist are really shameless, you plagiarized my idea."
"Get lost. I don't have a roommate like you who doesn't keep his word. Don't mention you know me when you go out with friends in the future."
“What are you whispering about? Stand still and don’t talk,” Cai Chunfen warned.
After finally getting through get out of class, everyone had left, but Chen Ze and his friend were kept behind by their counselor. As expected, Cai Chunfen gave them a scolding.
In the afternoon, with no classes, Chen Ze went to the Panda Takeaway headquarters and knocked on Wang Kaicheng's office door.
A dignified and elegant mature woman opened the door for him. Chen Ze went straight to the coffee table and sat down, asking curiously, "Mr. Wang, is this your new secretary?"
Wang Kaicheng smiled and said, "Boss, this is the girl my mom introduced to me. Her name is Zhang Yuting."
Zhang Yuting sat down at the coffee table, skillfully brewed a pot of tea, and poured a cup of hot tea for Chen Ze.
Chen Ze picked up his teacup, took a sip, and praised, "Sister-in-law is so beautiful. Brother Wang, you're so lucky."
This was the first time Wang Kaicheng had heard Chen Ze praise the woman he brought as beautiful. He had brought several women before, but he had never heard Chen Ze praise her like that. Afterwards, Wang Kaicheng would ask Chen Ze what he thought, and Chen Ze would always shake his head and say no.
Zhang Yuting wasn't exactly beautiful, but she had a dignified, elegant, and classy appearance. Both her parents were university professors, and she came from a scholarly family.
