Chapter 28 Order No Longer Exists

Glide Ridge was once a picturesque mountain range of ten peaks, each with its own shelters for people to escape danger.

However, this beautiful scenery became people's last hope, because five days and five nights of corrosive acid rain had trapped them here.

Everyone was starving. Faced with food scarcity, the uglier aspects of human nature slowly surfaced.

A scene of the strong preying on the weak began to unfold on the mountaintop, as vicious people began to rob vulnerable young girls of their food.

The girl's name was Sakura. She was young and looked frail and helpless. She brought nothing with her except a large bag of food, intending to share it with the others.

However, she became the target of public criticism due to people's greed.

A burly man walked towards Sakura, his eyes cold and ruthless. He extended his rough hand and said to Sakura, "Hand over your food, or you'll face the consequences."

Sakurako, clutching the bag of food, took a step back in fright. Trembling, she said, "This is my only food, and I need it to survive."

The burly man grinned, looking into Sakura's eyes with a sinister glint in his eyes: "Survival is a game of the strong preying on the weak, little girl, do you understand?"

Sakura nodded in fear, realizing she couldn't withstand the strength of this burly man.

"Don't hurt me, I'll give you the things." After saying that, she trembled as she took out two packages and wolfed them down.

So, she reluctantly handed the food to him. After getting what he wanted, the burly man turned and left, leaving Sakura's frail figure behind.

This wasn't the only robbery; the wicked people in the shelter began fighting over food. Some even harbored evil intentions, attempting to harm others.

The shelter was filled with a suffocating atmosphere; everyone felt hopeless and desperate. The struggle for food sparked heated arguments and conversations. Some tried to persuade everyone to unite, but were quickly met with ridicule and threats from others.

In this world devoid of law and order, people's true nature is laid bare. What was once a peaceful refuge has become hell. Helpless, Sakura huddles in a corner, watching the vicious people fight, her heart filled with despair.

However, in her darkest hour, Sakura saw a glimmer of hope. A middle-aged woman stepped forward; she was dressed in tattered clothes, but her eyes shone with determination and kindness.

She said to everyone, "We cannot kill each other for a little food; that will only lead to our deaths. We should unite and overcome this difficult time together."

These words touched some people's hearts, and they began to reflect on their actions. Sakura also felt a glimmer of hope; she knew that only by uniting could they overcome the current crisis.

So a group of people began to fight against the wicked. They joined forces to fight against the tyrannical people and tried to maintain order in the shelter. After a fierce struggle, but with heavy casualties on both sides, they had to give up in the end.

Seeing a group of wicked people whose humanity has deteriorated and whose morality has long been lost, we can only helplessly watch them continue to do evil, and we all pray that someone can come to help them.

In this refuge from natural disaster, people lost hope for the future, leaving only a craving for food and fear.

They are no longer humans united in the face of adversity, but beasts who fight each other, cruel and selfish.

Ultimately, only a few survive, and these survivors are no longer the same people they once were.

They were burdened by guilt and pain, immersed in terror and despair. This disaster robbed them of their trust in humanity and their hope for humankind.

The people in the ten mountaintop shelters of Glide Ridge displayed the ugliness and depravity of humanity in the most terrifying and cruel way.

Their kindness and morality were corrupted by despair and hunger, leaving only selfishness and savagery. In this refuge, there was only death and desolation; there was no more hope or warmth.

The three girls, Shangguan Wan'er, Shangguan Mingyue, and Liang Shuzhen, originally came from Shanghai to visit the mountaintop of Gliding Ridge in Beijing, which is over 7,000 meters above sea level, half a month ago.

Unexpectedly, they encountered corrosive acid rain and had no choice but to seek refuge in the mountaintop shelter. Their food supplies were nearly exhausted; everyone was starving and felt weak all over.

In the mountaintop shelter, too many people were crammed into a narrow space, and Shangguan Wan'er anxiously looked at her watch.

Her half-sister, Shangguan Mingyue, sat silently by the window, her eyes filled with helplessness and disappointment.

Liang Shuzhen sat in the corner, hugging her knees and sobbing softly.

"What should we do? We're running out of food, and the rain just won't stop," Shangguan Mingyue asked anxiously.

Shangguan Wan'er turned her head and replied with a wry smile, "I don't know either. This corrosive acid rain has been going on for far too long. We arrived too suddenly, completely unprepared."

Liang Shuzhen looked up, tears blurring her vision. She choked out, "How could we be so unlucky? We just wanted to come out and have some fun, but we're stuck here. I'm so hungry, I don't want to starve to death here!"

Shangguan Mingyue clenched her fists, her mind made up: "No, we can't give up. I heard there's a small village down the mountain. Although it's quite far from here, it might still have food supplies. Sister, can you take us down the mountain?"

Shangguan Wan'er shook her head with a wry smile: "The path down the mountain has been destroyed by acid rain, and the corrosive acid will cause skin to rot upon contact. We simply cannot go down. The only thing we can do now is wait for rescue."

"Wait? We can't afford to wait!" Shangguan Mingyue's voice revealed a hint of anger. She turned and walked towards the door, looking at the red world outside, a scene of dripping water, her heart filled with despair.

Suddenly, a huge roar resounded, and the entire shelter shook violently.

Shangguan Wan'er, Shangguan Mingyue, and Liang Shuzhen looked at each other in horror, not knowing what had happened.

"Could it be an earthquake?" Shangguan Mingyue's voice trembled.

Suddenly, the shelter door was flung open, and a group of people rushed in, their bodies covered in the corrosive residue of acid rain. They screamed in panic, chattering about the horrific sight they had witnessed.

"The situation outside is even worse! The entire mountain range is shaking violently, and we can't escape!" one of them said breathlessly.

Shangguan Wan'er, Shangguan Mingyue, and Liang Shuzhen looked at each other, their hearts growing even heavier.

"It's all your fault. Why did you have to come here? If things continue like this, you'll either starve to death or be corroded by acid rain."

"You agreed to it yourself in the first place, so who can you blame now?"

"Slap!" The sound of a slap landed on the face.

The man's forehead veins bulged as he angrily said, "You bitch, if you hadn't promised me all that, would I have come to this godforsaken place?"

The woman, touching her stinging face, gritted her teeth in anger and shouted, "You dog of a man, how dare you hit me! I'll fight you to the death!" She then lunged forward, and the couple instantly began fighting.
