Chapter 24 Mat

Before Xiaoyue could even leave the house, Old Mrs. Ge and Ge Erping pushed the door open and came in. Old Mrs. Sun was short, with a thin, dark face and a pair of triangular eyes that revealed a mean and greedy light.

Ge Erping helped Old Mrs. Ge into the courtyard, where she immediately spotted the large and small vats Xiaoyue had bought. She glanced at Xiaoyue, then, with a forced smile, questioned her, "Where did you get the money to buy such expensive things?"

When Xiaoyue saw Ge Erping's smug and arrogant face, she knew that Ge Erping had spoken ill of her to Old Madam Ge.

Ge Erping helped Old Madam Ge to stand to one side, then went to the mat and lifted the newly bought mat to Old Madam Sun, saying, "Mother, look, Third Sister-in-law bought a new mat."

Xiaoyue was furious. Before she could react, Ge Erping stood by the mat, grabbed the short edge of the mat with both hands, and slowly rolled it up. The mat was soon rolled up. Ge Erping picked up the mat and helped Old Madam Ge to walk out.

Xiaoyue was not one to be trifled with. She ran to the window, grabbed a shovel, and ran outside. When she reached Ge Erping, she raised the shovel at his thigh and shouted angrily, "Ge Erping, if you take anything from my house today, I'll make sure you can't get out of bed for the rest of your life!"

Xiaoyue knew that there was a concept of filial piety here, so she couldn't do anything to Old Madam Ge and could only take her anger out on her sister-in-law.

When Ge Erping saw Xiaoyue's angry eyes, he remembered being robbed by two bandits on the road that day, and he couldn't help but feel scared, and his momentum was not so strong anymore.

When Xiaoyue tried to put down the mat, Old Mrs. Ge refused. The little old lady no longer needed anyone's help and was even more nimble than a young person. As soon as Xiaoyue finished speaking, Old Mrs. Ge lay down in front of Ge Erping and began to act, clutching her chest and wailing, "My heart aches, you unfilial daughter-in-law, you've made my chest hurt."

Xiaoyue rolled her eyes at Old Madam Ge and said resentfully, "Fine, fine, the Ge family is big and wealthy, they have everything. You can take what I have, but I won't take anything from your house. Moving things is too tiring, I'll smash it."

"I'll smash it!" Xiaoyue's eyes were spitting fire. She gripped the shovel tightly, her nails turning white, and shouted angrily, "I'll count to three. If you don't put it back where it is, you don't have to wait. I'll smash it right now."

Xiaoyue acted like a madwoman, and Ge Erping felt a chill run down his spine as he looked at her.

Grandma Ge, however, was like an old cat, completely unyielding.

Xiaoyue gritted her teeth and spat out, "One."

He glanced at Old Mrs. Ge lying on the ground, but remained unmoved.

Then another one popped up: "Two!" The sound was so loud it seemed like it wanted to bite you and grind you to pieces.

Ge Erping looked nervous, his eyes fixed on Xiaoyue's face, which resembled a demon. His heart pounded even faster, and he quickly pulled Grandma Ge, signaling her to get up.

Grandma Ge was startled by Xiaoyue's appearance, but she still had her own thoughts. She heard Ge Erping say that the woman Sanlin had found was going to repair the house.

Old Mrs. Ge's mind started to wander. First, she had no family to rely on, and second, Sanlinzi was not around. Where did her money come from?

Moreover, what Grandma Ge cared about most was that Xiaoyue's money should also include a share for her.

Today was just a test. If the test succeeds, then Xiaoyue's future will be entirely at Old Madam Ge's mercy.

Grandma Ge remained calm; no matter how much Ge Erping pulled her, she simply wouldn't get up.

Xiaoyue's face was as black as soot from the bottom of a pot. She called out twice, but seeing that Old Mrs. Ge didn't move, Xiaoyue put down the shovel, circled Old Mrs. Ge and Ge Erping, and then called out a sinister "Three."

Grandma Ge was already trembling with fear. She had lost several arguments with Xiaoyue, but this time she was determined to hold on because of the money.

After Xiaoyue called out "three," seeing that the two still didn't move, she picked up the shovel and ran towards the main courtyard. Ge Erping also didn't care about Old Madam Ge, threw the mat to her, and ran back as well.

Grandma Ge then stood up abruptly, picked up the mat, and walked towards the courtyard.

Xiaoyue picked up a shovel, aimed it at the window of the main house, and smashed it down. The window was made of wood with paper-covered panes, and with one swing, she smashed a hole in it.

Xiaoyue smashed four windows in a row, and leaning on her shovel, she said disdainfully to Old Mrs. Ge who entered the room, "Aunt Ge, do I need to go inside and smash them again?"

When Grandma Ge saw that the windows were smashed, she lost her footing and fell to the ground, landing hard on her bottom.

She threw down the mat and burst into tears. None of her three sons were home, and her husband had gone to cut pig feed. This whole thing was a terrible idea she came up with with Ge Erping.

Just then, Uncle Gao, Gao Lei, and Gao Yu saw that there was a commotion in the yard. When Gao Lei looked into the yard, Xiao Yue was still there. So when Gao Lei saw Xiao Yue in the yard, she was angry and carrying a shovel. Without thinking, she went into the yard.

When Xiaoyue saw Uncle Gao come in, she hurried forward to greet him. She picked up the mat that Grandma Ge had brought back from next to her and said to Grandma Ge with a big smile, "Mother, why are you crying after falling? Erping, quickly help Mother into the house."

Crouching low, he whispered to Old Mrs. Ge, "This time it was too lenient. If your family bullies me again, I'll burn your house down."

Ge Erping was so frightened that he stood there dumbfounded. But when Xiaoyue shouted, he seemed to have been turned on and hurriedly ran towards Grandma Ge.

Xiaoyue took the mat and went back to her own courtyard with Uncle Gao and the other two.

Xiaoyue pointed out all the parts that needed to be demolished and built to Uncle Gao again, then picked up her basket and went to chop firewood.

When they arrived at the foot of Xiaoma Hutou Mountain, Xiaoyue looked at the land to be reclaimed and thought it was suitable, with about five acres of land that could be well cultivated.

After looking at the barren land that had been cleared, Xiaoyue headed straight for Da Ma Hu Tou. Once there, she found the Ganoderma lucidum by following a path she had taken before.

The remaining three small Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms have also grown up, and their oval caps are now covered with spores.

Xiaoyue carefully picked the three Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, and then picked large leaves and wrapped them up one by one.

After packing the Ganoderma lucidum, Xiaoyue prepared to chop firewood. She had to go to Xiao Ma Hu Tou's place to chop firewood, and it would be easier to carry the chopped wood.

Looking down the mountain, Xiaoyue noticed a dark hole in a linden tree directly in her direction. Usually, tree holes in the mountains are either home to small animals or contain animal eggs.

Xiaoyue excitedly walked towards the linden tree cave, but when she got there, there was nothing there. The cave was dark, and something black was flowing down from it.

Xiaoyue stepped forward, used leaves as a base, took out a piece, and put it in her basket to see if it would be easy to light a fire.

From Da Ma Hu Tou to Xiao Ma Hu Tou, one has to cross mountains to reach Xiao Yue's village.

Xiaoyue was walking down from the top of Xiaomahutou Mountain when she heard voices ahead.
