Chapter 27 Final Preparations Before Opening

That evening, Du Chen's family excitedly discussed their shop over dinner, each one anticipating the changes it would bring. Old Du was in high spirits, even having a couple of glasses of wine. Du Bin also indulged himself tonight, finishing his homework at school rather than returning to study, so he could sit at the table and chat peacefully with his parents, Du Chen.

"Well, I have to go to class tomorrow, otherwise I would go to the store with you to clean up!" Du Bin said with some regret. There was nothing he could do, since he was already in the second grade of junior high school and had to make up classes on Saturday.

"Du Bin, your main task now is to study hard. If you really want to help during the summer vacation, there's plenty of time." Du Chen's mother patiently spoke to Du Bin after hearing what he said. It was because she saw that Du Bin had been studying hard recently that Du Chen's mother spoke to him gently. According to Du Bin's previous state, scolding him today would be the least of his worries.

"Well, boss, your mom is right. Your mom and I are not old enough to ask you for help. If you want to help, just study hard tomorrow. There is still one day left on Sunday." Comrade Lao Du also explained to Du Bin.

"I know, Dad. I just saw that you've been too busy and tired lately. That's why I wanted to help you."

"Well, mom and dad know. We also see that you are much more obedient than before, and you know how to study hard." Comrade Lao Du was very pleased to see his eldest son in front of him. He was pleased that Du Bin had finally grown up, knew how to make progress, and knew how to care about his parents.

"Okay, Du Bin, just focus on your classes tomorrow and come over to get busy on Sunday." Du Chen's mother was very happy to hear the heartwarming words from her husband and son, but she still felt a little embarrassed, so she interrupted them.

"Lao Du, let's go to the city tomorrow and buy some books. By the time we get back, the paint on the shelves will have dried. Then we can tidy up the stationery and books so we can open for business on Monday."

"Okay, then, second brother, will you go to the city with us tomorrow or stay at home first?" asked Du Chen's father.

"I'll go with you. I'll pick out some novels and comic books. You can buy some of them, but I'm afraid they won't be suitable and will be difficult to rent out." Du Chen answered directly.

"Okay, let's go out early tomorrow morning. It just so happens that the company car didn't drive back to the office today." Comrade Lao Du made the decision directly.

With the opening approaching, the whole family was in high spirits and sat around the dinner table chatting until after ten o'clock in the evening when everyone washed up and went to bed.

When Du Bin got up on Saturday morning, he also woke up Du Chen. His parents had already prepared breakfast. After breakfast, the family split up. Du Bin went to his class, while Du Chen and his parents drove to the city to purchase goods.

The book market was a bit further away than the small commodity market, but not by much. The three of them soon arrived. The book market was a large courtyard with rows of bungalows. There were shops that specialized in wholesale new books, as well as those that sold both new and used books.

The new books are all placed in the bungalow, and many people who deal in old books have built simple sheds outside the bungalow. After all, old books are not worth much compared to new books.

Du Chen and his parents walked around the yard, selected a few stores to inquire about the prices, and finally found a larger wholesaler that dealt in both new and used books, which saved them a lot of trouble.

After asking around, Du Chen's parents had a rough idea. Du Chen first went in to choose some new books, then went to the simple shed outside to look at the types of old books. He thought they were all good, so he talked to the owner about the prices.

Because they had inquired beforehand, they moved quickly today. In just over an hour, Du Chen and his family had finished their book shopping. They didn't buy many supplementary textbooks, firstly because new books were expensive, and secondly because people didn't yet have the concept of buying supplementary textbooks. So Du Chen chose mostly novels and comic books.

I've gotten 20 to 30 volumes of supplementary teaching materials, and more than a hundred volumes of novels and comic books. I settled the bill, paid the money, and left. Today, time is tight and the task is heavy, so I dare not delay for a moment.

On the way back, I went to the small commodity market and bought some snacks, stationery and other miscellaneous items. I had almost everything I needed to open a store.

Just after eleven o'clock, Du Chen and his family returned to their living area from the city. Du Chen's mother got off the car first and went home. Du Chen and his father went directly to the store. They first arranged the shelves, which were almost done, and then arranged the glass cabinets as expected, and began to arrange the goods.

Du Chen wiped the used books with a rag and placed them one by one. After all, the used books were stored in the shed in the yard and were quite dirty. After the books were arranged, Du Chen took a pen and wrote down the available novels and comic books one by one. When others rented books, at least they would know what books they had and could recommend them.

Du Chen's father also placed stationery, exercise books and other things in another room, and there were quite a lot of miscellaneous items.

The two of them had a clear division of labor, each doing their own thing. Not long after, Du Bin also came to the store after school.

"Dad, when will you be back?" Du Bin asked curiously as he looked at the neatly arranged shelves.

"It's around eleven o'clock, second brother, how are things going over there?"

"I'm almost done, Dad, do you need my help over there?" Du Chen shouted from another room.

"I'm almost well now, let's go home and have dinner."

Du Chen came out of the room where books were rented. The father and his two sons were very happy when they saw the neat shelves and the bright shop.

"Dad, it looks so beautiful after it's been cleaned up!" Du Bin said happily from the side.

"Well, it looks better than other stores." Du Chen's father was also very happy.

In Du Chen's opinion, today's stores are still far inferior. After all, they still have counters, just like the old stores, and the owner has to pick up everything he wants, unlike the later supermarkets where people can choose whatever they want. However, there are no surveillance cameras or computerized accounting these days, so this is considered a good thing. If it were truly a supermarket where people could choose what they want, there wouldn't necessarily be a lot of things to lose.

"Dad, I think we still have a lot of places that are not being used. When we have money in a while, let's buy two freezers and sell popsicles, ice cream and ice bags." Du Chen said, looking at the empty room.

"Two freezers? I think one is enough."

"Buy one first, and buy more if it's not enough." Du Bin interjected.

The father and his two sons watched for a while before locking the door and going home to eat. When they entered the house, lunch was already prepared.

"Old Du, how is the cleaning going?" Du Chen's mother asked while holding the bowl.

"Now that we've cleaned up, you can go over and take a look this afternoon. There are some small odds and ends for you to see where to put them. You'll be in the store every day from now on, so you can do whatever comes to your way." Du Chen's father said.

"Okay, and have you bought the gas tank? I'll be cooking lunch there from now on."

"I've bought it. I also found an unused desk at work and will move it over to use as a dining table. Tomorrow I'll move the bunk bed, table, and gas tank over there. I'll put them directly in the empty room so we'll have a place to rest at noon. Maybe we'll have dinner there in the evening too." Du Chen's father answered while holding his hands.

"Dad, have you finished the sign I mentioned?" Du Chen suddenly remembered that the sign had not been installed yet.

"Not yet. I don't have time recently. I'll install it after the opening."

"Well, Fang Zheng, no one else has a signboard." Du Chen could only say this, so let's just wait and see.
