Chapter 7 My Dad

Du Bin felt mixed emotions and thought that he should work harder, otherwise as an older brother he would have no status in the family and would have to serve as a foil for his younger brother in front of relatives and friends. He was already in the second grade of junior high school and felt embarrassed about that.

"My father, in the eyes of his colleagues, is an ordinary railway worker. In the eyes of his comrades, he is a helpful friend. In my mother's eyes, he is the pillar of the family. But in my eyes, he is a great father who cares for me and my brother, a serious yet gentle father..."

Du Chen's mother softly read Du Chen's composition, "My Dad." The family listened in silence, and Du Chen felt uncomfortable, his face flushed. He felt a mixture of embarrassment and relief.

This essay is actually Du Chen's own inner thoughts. In his previous life, when he was in his thirties, his father died of illness. In the years that followed, Du Chen felt a pang of pain in his heart whenever he thought of his father.

Du Chen's father was always very busy. The burden of supporting a family of four fell on his shoulders, especially with two sons. The pressure on him was imaginable, and he lived a very frugal life. Just when Du Chen and his brother were able to earn money and their lives improved, and they could take care of their parents, their father passed away.

A son longs to support his parents, but they're no longer around. Every holiday, Du Chen sheds silent tears, missing his father. The seven Buddhist sufferings of love and separation separate the closest relatives, a father and son. Time doesn't forget them, but instead keeps them hidden deep in the heart, pretending not to care. Sometimes in the bustle, sometimes in silence, the longing and memories creep in, piercing your heart and bringing tears to your eyes.

Looking at his family, Du Chen smiled. After all, his father was right in front of him, his mother was healthy, and his brother was energetic and positive. So, wouldn't starting over again make all the more sense? May tomorrow be beautiful.
