Zhou Jiasheng and Wen Ziqing were both university students, living on campus. Zhou Jiasheng was better off, as he could go home once a week. Wen Ziqing was in a terrible situation, having spent a year at the military academy and only returning home once during the Lunar New Year. The rest of the time, he was either studying at school or training in the military camp.
Six years had changed a lot. First, Zhou Yuanyuan's appearance had become even more beautiful. Thirteen-year-old Zhou Yuanyuan already possessed the graceful demeanor of a young girl. She could easily turn heads on anyone walking down the street.
As girls grow older, they naturally have more admirers.
Every morning, Zhou Yuanyuan would arrive at the classroom and find a pile of pink love letters in her desk drawer. This made her both amused and frustrated. As a middle-aged woman in her forties, she had never seen such a sight before. However, Zhou Yuanyuan never looked to see who wrote them, but simply tossed them into the trash.
Children are often fragile, so Zhou Yuanyuan decided not to return all the love letters and become the killer who hurts the hearts of many young people. For Zhou Yuanyuan, she had never been moved by the stunningly handsome Wen Ziqing in her life, let alone the youngsters from Chaoyang Middle School.
However, Wen Ziqing was very anxious. Seeing Zhou Yuanyuan becoming more and more beautiful day by day, Wen Ziqing felt both happy and anxious.
Ever since Wen Ziqing and Zhou Yuanyuan reunited after a few months apart a few years ago, Wen Ziqing had noticed that the girl had become much quieter, less clingy than before. Zhou Yuanyuan used to turn to Wen Ziqing whenever she had something to say, acting as her go-to listener. Over the past few years, there have been times when Wen Ziqing had clearly seen Zhou Yuanyuan fret and wanted to confide in him, but somehow found himself restraining himself. All of this left Wen Ziqing feeling somewhat lost. For the first time, he wondered if his place in Zhou Yuanyuan's heart wasn't as important as he'd assumed.
Over the past six years, Wen Ziqing had been trying to get closer to Zhou Yuanyuan. He loved hearing her talk and the feeling of her clinging to him, which made him feel that his position in the little girl's heart was different. Unfortunately, there were a few times when Wen Ziqing clearly felt that Zhou Yuanyuan's attitude towards him had become somewhat intimate, but after a day or two, Zhou Yuanyuan would return to her independent and solitary state.
Wen Ziqing didn't know what he had done wrong to make Zhou Yuanyuan stop being close to him. Perhaps the little girl disliked him for not being good enough? Or not being handsome enough? Wen Ziqing couldn't help but let his thoughts wander whenever he had a free moment.
Because of Zhou Yuanyuan's inexplicable distance, Wen Ziqing felt somewhat inferior in front of the little girl. Therefore, Wen Ziqing ended his high school career a year early and applied to a military academy. Wen Ziqing wanted to achieve something as soon as possible so that he could stand by Zhou Yuanyuan's side.
Since going to military school, Wen Ziqing rarely had the opportunity to leave the school, but he still had time to make phone calls. On the phone, Wen Ziqing repeatedly instructed his future brother-in-law, Zhou Jiasheng, to keep a close eye on Zhou Yuanyuan at school and not give other boys any chances.
Wen Ziqing also called Zhou Yuanyuan. Every time on the phone, Wen Ziqing, who was usually very frugal with words, would turn into a chatterbox, nagging Zhou Yuanyuan to take care of her health, not to study too hard, and not to pay attention to the boring people in school... and so on. He would not hang up the phone until he talked for more than ten or twenty minutes.
Zhou Jiasheng knew about Wen Ziqing's engagement to his sister two years ago, though perhaps only Zhou Yuanyuan herself was unaware. This was a major misunderstanding. When the engagement first began, Zhao Qingshan figured Zhou Yuanyuan was still young and it wouldn't be too late to discuss it once she was older. When Zhou Yuanyuan started middle school, Zhao Qingshan assumed her mother, Zhao Yunxiang, would tell her about the engagement. Zhao Yunxiang, preoccupied with her career, assumed her grandfather, Zhao Qingshan, who spent all day with her, would share the news. Thus, each assumed the other had spoken, even though neither actually did. So, within the Zhao family, apart from Zhou Yuanyuan, who was unaware of her engagement, even Yu Meiru knew Wen Ziqing was Zhou Yuanyuan's son-in-law.
When Zhou Jiasheng first found out about his future brother-in-law, Wen Ziqing, he was completely disgusted. He was a complete "sister-con" and in his heart, his sister was the best girl in the world.
Although Zhou Jiasheng was not particularly satisfied with Wen Ziqing, his future brother-in-law, when he looked at the Zhou Yuanyuan fan group all over the school, he felt that Wen Ziqing was better as his brother-in-law than any of those little brats.
Zhou Jiasheng complained that Wen Ziqing wasn't really a good match for his sister, and at the same time, he was conflicted about trying to get rid of his sister's admirers. His heart was like a pool of sour water: proud of his sister's charm, but also worried that she might be seduced by her future brother-in-law, Wen Ziqing.
Fortunately, Zhou Yuanyuan was a carefree girl. She spent her time studying and rarely spoke to boys. She never smiled at any of the admirers around the school.
Children her age are sensitive and arrogant, and Zhou Yuanyuan's arrogance towards her suitors really angered some jealous girls. A small group of girls, led by He Jingjing, often criticized Zhou Yuanyuan's dismissive attitude towards her suitors. However, they only dared to grumble behind her back, not in front of Zhou Yuanyuan. After all, Zhou Yuanyuan had a brother who was a school idol.
At school, Zhou Yuanyuan and her siblings were admired as top students. Zhou Jiasheng had grown into a handsome young man, and many girls at school liked him. Some girls even went to Zhou Yuanyuan to curry favor, hoping she would say something good about them.
However, Zhou Yuanyuan estimated that she would have a lot more free time starting this semester. After all, Zhou Jiasheng had already gone to college, and those senior and junior students would no longer be so shy about showing their affection to her.
He Jingjing was originally a grade higher than Zhou Jiasheng, but her health had always been poor. When Zhou Jiasheng was in the first grade, He Jingjing had to take a leave of absence from school shortly after the school started. Now, He Jingjing, like Zhou Yuanyuan, is a sophomore in junior high school.
Perhaps it was a natural aura clash, but He Jingjing disliked Zhou Yuanyuan, and Zhou Yuanyuan had no feelings for He Jingjing either. In their one year together, they had exchanged fewer than ten sentences.
Today is the first day of school, and Zhou Yuanyuan came to Chaoyang Middle School alone.
As soon as Zhou Yuanyuan arrived at the school gate, someone greeted her: "Sister Yuanyuan, long time no see!"
