The three people who entered the space were unaware that mutated rats were guarding the area where they entered. As soon as Ye Yunxi and the others came out, they would be surrounded and have nowhere to escape.
Ye Yunxi, Fu Heng, Xuan Yu, and Yun Zi returned to the space, panting heavily.
Ye Yunxi took a breath and looked at Xuan Yu to ask.
"Where did you get these mutated rats from? They look pretty big, about the size of a kitten."
Xuan Yu took a breath and spoke to Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng.
"I led Yunzi into the mountains and forests, and we saw several animal carcasses, all skeletons. Then we went around the skeletons and walked in, and we saw a cave."
Curious, I led Yunzi into the cave. You wouldn't believe it, but this cave had a huge, deep pit, and the stone walls were riddled with countless small caves. It was filled with these mutated rats.
We originally planned to retreat quietly and tell you when we got back, but we alerted them, and they chased after Yunzi and me. You all know what happened next.”
Fu Heng paused to catch his breath and said, "Luckily we entered the space. Otherwise, if we had been bitten by those mutated rats, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Even if we hadn't died, we would have been crippled."
Ye Yunxi recalled the red-eyed rat she had just seen and felt a chill run down her spine. Luckily, she wasn't bitten. Otherwise, if she had been bitten as Fu Heng had said, it would have been the end of her.
After staying in the space for a while, Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng were unsure whether the mutated rats had left. Since they couldn't see outside from within the space, they decided to go out and check on the situation.
Ye Yunxi then led Fu Heng and Xuan Yu out of the space, while Yunzi remained inside, just in case.
After they came out, they didn't see the mutated rats and assumed they had left because they couldn't find anyone.
He let out a breath and said to Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng.
"Thank goodness those mutated rats left, otherwise we would have been doomed."
When the mutated rat king saw the humans reappear out of thin air, it ordered the other rats to slowly approach the humans.
Their voices were very soft, but Xuan Yu and Fu Heng still heard them.
Fu Heng gestured for Ye Yunxi to shush, telling her to listen carefully. The three of them looked around warily. Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng pulled out their pistols and gave one to Xuan Yu.
The three men stood back to back, raising their pistols and scanning their surroundings. Suddenly, they heard a scream, and the mutated rats around them pounced on them.
The three of them reacted quickly and fired at the mutated rats. After two minutes of shooting, the number of mutated rats did not decrease at all. Seeing that the mutated rats were getting bigger and bigger, Fu Heng said to Ye Yunxi.
"Xixi, there are too many, we can't finish typing them all, let's go into the space quickly."
Without saying a word, Ye Yunxi led Fu Heng and Xuan Yu into the space.
Xuan Yu looked at them and said, "My god, there are so many mutated rats, we can't kill them all. Have you noticed? It seems like one of the larger rats is giving orders to the other mutated rats."
Fu Heng thought for a moment and said, "It seems there is a rather large rat; I guess that's the Rat King."
Ye Yunxi asked with some concern.
"How do we get back now? There are mutated rats outside. I'm worried that if we go out, we'll get bitten."
Fu Heng thought for a moment. Driving wouldn't work; the mountain road was too narrow and difficult to navigate. Suddenly, he remembered something and turned to look at Ye Yunxi.
"Xixi, let's take the helicopter back. Once we get near the base, we'll switch to cars."
After hearing Fu Heng's words, why didn't she think of that? "Okay, but you'll be the one flying the helicopter; I'm not very skilled at it yet."
Fu Heng nodded, and then led Fu Heng and Xuan Yu to the helicopter parking area. The three of them and the dog boarded the helicopter, fastened their seatbelts, and once they were seated, Ye Yunxi used her mind to take the helicopter out of the space.
The mutated rats, seeing the enormous creature that had appeared out of nowhere again, scattered in fear.
Once outside the space, Fu Heng quickly raised the helicopter. Ye Yunxi and Xuan Yu peeked out and were startled by the mutated rats that scurried around in terror.
At this moment, the Rat King looked up at them, and when he confirmed that they were the humans from before, he gave a command to the scurrying rats, who then chased after the enormous creature above their heads.
Xuan Yu and Ye Yunxi looked down at the mutated rats with some surprise. They hadn't expected the helicopter to frighten them; instead, it had made them even more agitated.
Xuan Yu exclaimed in surprise, "Holy crap! I didn't see the number of mutated rats clearly before, but now it seems there are a terrifying number. Not only are there some as big as adult kittens, but there are also some smaller ones, about the size of kittens. Looking at them from above, it's giving me the creeps."
Fu Heng was piloting the helicopter and, unaware of the situation below, asked Ye Yunxi for directions.
"Xixi, what's the situation down there now?"
Ye Yunxi suppressed her discomfort and poked her head in to speak to Fu Heng.
"They've been following us. We don't know how long they'll keep following us. If they follow us to the base, that would be a real problem."
Fu Heng's expression was unreadable; all that could be heard was his speech.
"They probably won't follow for that long. This mountain is more than 100 kilometers away from the base. Even if they follow, they won't get to the base that quickly."
Ye Yunxi still couldn't imagine what would happen if she came to the base; the base would suffer as a result.
At the same time, Fu Heng increased the speed of the helicopter, shaking off the relentless pursuit of the mutated rats.
As the enormous creature receded into the distance, the mutated rat king commanded the other mutated rats to stop chasing Ye Yunxi and the others.
When Xuan Yu saw that the group of mutated rats had stopped chasing them, he excitedly stuck his head back to tell Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng.
"Good news, good news! Those mutated rats have finally stopped chasing us."
