Chapter 229 Birds Startled, On the Eve of an Earthquake

The moment Ye Yunxi and the others saw the wolves pounce, they instantly raised their pistols and aimed them at the charging wolves, bang! bang! bang! They fired several shots in succession.

Finally, all the wolves collapsed to the ground and could not get up.

Chen Zhe put away his gun, looked at the wolves on the ground, and said to Ye Yuxi and the others.

"What's this wolf doing here? Isn't it on another mountain?"

Ye Yunxi told them her guess.

"They may have come with us from the beginning, but we just didn't notice them."

Xuan Yu continued Ye Yunxi's words.

"If that's the case, then our location has been exposed. I'm afraid these wolves that were killed have already notified their other companions."

Chen Zhe listened to Xuan Yu's words and spoke loudly.

"Sister Yunxi, is there anything else we need to check? If not, let's get out of here quickly. Otherwise, once those wolves arrive, it will be very difficult for us to escape."

Fu Heng seemed to hear something and said to them.

"I'm afraid we can't leave."

After Fu Heng finished speaking, Ye Yunxi and the others looked at him with puzzled expressions, wanting to know what he meant.

Before they could even ask, they heard footsteps coming from upstairs.

Ye Yunxi's expression changed instantly. Just by listening to the footsteps, she knew that a lot of wild wolves were coming, but they didn't know exactly how many.

Chen Zhe nervously shielded Zhang Jing behind him, while Fu Heng and Xuan Yu also stood guard beside Ye Yunxi.

Tap! Tap! Tap!

The footsteps were getting closer!

Ye Yunxi and the others watched the stairs nervously. Soon, a wolf came down, followed by a second, a third, and a fourth. Until there were more than a dozen wolves coming down.

Even Chen Zhe and Zhang Jing gasped when they saw this scene; it was the first time they had ever seen so many wild wolves.

For Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng, this is really not much compared to the rescue missions they went out with Li Yan before.

One of the wolves stepped forward, staring intently at Ye Yunxi and the others, baring its teeth at them.

Then he saw the dead members of his tribe on the ground and growled at them.

The wolf gave the order, prompting the wolves behind it to attack.

Ye Yunxi and Fu Heng quickly raised their guns and fired at the charging wolves.

Some wolves nimbly dodged Ye Yunxi and her group's gunfire, while others were shot dead before they even got close.

In the end, only seven or eight wolves remained, and these were all very agile.

Seeing so many of their companions dead, the wolves charged at Ye Yunxi and the others.

Fu Heng reacted swiftly, and with a series of thuds, he killed four wolves.

The remaining three wolves dared not go up and stood menacingly at the top of the stairs, staring at Ye Yunxi and the others.

Fu Heng pointed his pistol at them, stepped forward, and fired three shots—bang, bang, bang—killing all the wolves!

This resulted in a strong smell of blood permeating the laboratory.

Ye Yunxi looked around the laboratory. Apart from some medicines on the table and shelves, there were no other drugs. They didn't know if these drugs were poisonous.

If the cave is set on fire, it will cause a wildfire that will spread across the mountain, making it difficult to extinguish.

If we don't burn them, we're afraid that someone from outside will come here, take the medicine, and use it to harm people.

Finally, it was decided that we would put these medicine bottles in a bag and take them back for research.

Ye Yunxi then took out a snakeskin bag from her spatial storage.

All the laboratory medicine bottles were stored inside.

It was half an hour later when they finished collecting the medicine bottles.

Having gained little from this, they prepared to retreat and return to Chief Li's house.

As Ye Yunxi and the others walked out of the cave and down the mountain, birds in the forest quickly flew away from their heads, as if they sensed some danger.

Chen Zhe looked at a flock of birds flying overhead and asked curiously.

"What's going on with these birds? Why have they all flown away? Is something about to happen?"

Xuan Yu replied, "That's hard to say. Alright, let's leave here first!"

Ye Yunxi saw the bird fly away but didn't pay much attention. They walked back along the route they had come from.

Midway through, Ye Yunxi had an idea. Since they had basically killed all the wolves, they could go check out the wolf den and see if they could find anything.

"Everyone, shall we go check out the wolf's den?"

Chen Zhe became interested and said, "Okay, let's go!"

Fu Heng nodded. "Alright, let's go then!"

They walked for about an hour before reaching the mountain behind Chief Li. Holding the medicine bottle, they were also somewhat unhappy.

Fu Heng had previously asked Chief Li that the pack of wolves lived on the mountaintop. He thought he would leave the medicine bottle there until they went up to check, then come down the mountain to bring the medicine back to Chief Li's house. Otherwise, it would be too heavy, and carrying it up and down the mountain would be too much trouble.

"Okay, then let's do as Heng says. Let's find a place to put this bag of medicine bottles and cover it with leaves."

After they finished doing all that, they followed Fu Heng up the mountain and walked all the way to the top.

Ye Yunxi saw the cave ahead. They looked around but didn't find any other wolves. Then they headed towards the cave entrance.

The group, armed with guns, cautiously entered the cave but found no wolves.

The cave looked quite large, and as we continued walking in, we found an injured wolf inside.

Fu Heng said to them, "You wait here, I'll go take a look."

Ye Yunxi was worried about Fu Heng going forward alone.

"I'll go with you, otherwise you shouldn't go either."

Fu Heng had no choice but to lead Ye Yunxi forward, while Chen Zhe and the others stayed behind to watch.
