Chapter Seventy-Four: Unraveling the Mechanism

Chen Jinheng led the Dai Viet army to the frontier, but due to the bad weather, it took them five days to travel only a few hundred miles.

Many who went to the battlefield for the first time fainted due to heatstroke, and some even died from exhaustion.

For the sake of his soldiers, Chen Jinheng decided to set up camp in Qinglan County, which is close to Huaizhou, and rest for two or three days before setting off again.

At night, Chen Jinheng leaned against the long couch in the military tent to rest, his eyes glancing at an exquisite amulet pouch.

He was suddenly delighted and reached out to hold it in his palm, playing with it. The image of Gu Qianluo speaking gently flashed through his mind.

It was the thirtieth day of the first lunar month. As dusk fell, a full moon slowly rose into the sky and shone through the curtains into the room.

For some reason, despite being exhausted from the march and physically and mentally drained, Chen Jinheng felt unusually restless tonight and was unable to fall asleep peacefully.

He gripped the amulet tightly, lifted the tent flap, and walked out of the tent.

"Luo'er, are you alright? Do you miss your husband? You probably don't, do you? Hehe!"

Except for the guards on night watch, all the soldiers in the army returned to their camps to rest on time.

As he approached the tent, the guards stepped forward and saluted, "General Chen! Is there anything you wish to do?"

"You don't need to pay me any attention. I'm just feeling a bit down, so I came out for a walk!"

He walked to the highest point of a hill, looked around, and found that there was a bustling market at the foot of the hill.

He couldn't help but smile, recalling the tender moments he shared with Gu Qianluo in the flower market that day, and murmured to himself,

"I wish she were here too."

Weariness gradually crept into his heart. He shook off his cloak and strode down the mountain. Just as he was about to enter the military tent, Han Ying rushed towards him with a letter in her hand.

"Master! A letter arrived by carrier pigeon today!"

Chen Jinheng frowned, took the letter, and quickly scanned its contents under the bright moonlight.

Han Ying looked up and saw that Chen Jinheng was gripping the letter tighter and tighter, the light in his eyes was getting dimmer and dimmer, and his whole body was exuding a cold aura.

Han Ying risked her life to step forward and asked with concern, "Master, has something happened at the Marquis's residence?"

"Luo'er has disappeared! I've only been away for five days, and they dare to lay a hand on her."

Chen Jinheng quickly stuffed the letter into his clothes, pulled a Green Dragon Sword from the wooden frame inside the tent, and rushed towards the horse farm.

Han Ying anxiously followed, stretching out her arm to block his path, and sternly reminded him.

"My lord! Absolutely not! You are now the core of the army!"

If you leave, who will take charge?

"Get out of here!" Chen Jinheng coldly and angrily rebuked.

"No! Master! You have finally gotten this opportunity to seek military merit. You must not lose your composure because of your wife!"

Chen Jinheng looked anxious, his eyes were deep, and his heart was restless. He stopped and gave instructions.

"I will only be away for three days. Please take care of settling the soldiers in the meantime."

Take this opportunity to rest well, and we'll break camp when I return.

"Han Ying, did you hear me clearly?"

Upon hearing this, Han Ying's furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and he cupped his hands in greeting.

"Yes! Don't worry, Master! Hanying will certainly live up to your expectations and wait here for the General to return."

Chen Jinheng's eyes lit up, a smile played on his lips, and he patted Han Ying's shoulder heavily.

"I'm leaving! You'd better watch yourself!"

With that, he raised his whip and rode away into the darkness.

Mo Guigu

As soon as Gu Qianluo stepped into the iron prison gate, she heard the howling of wolves coming from all directions. Her heart trembled, and she looked around at the layout of the iron prison. To her surprise, she found that it was designed based on the Bagua diagram.

Although this iron prison is full of traps, it is actually a place with great potential.

She slowly walked to the right, a gust of sword wind whistling past her ear.

She suddenly crouched down to dodge, the sword's wind lightly brushing against her stray hairs.

"Phew! I almost died!" Unwilling to give up, she squatted down again and tried to walk to the left.

This time, she not only avoided triggering the mechanism, but also discovered a secret: as long as she stood in the center of the next stone door, the tightly closed stone door would slowly open.

She became even more certain that the mechanism was designed according to the Bagua diagram.

The position she was in just now was the Kun trigram position; only by moving to the left could she find a way out.

She took a dagger from her waist, cut her finger, and slowly traced a complete Bagua diagram on the hem of her skirt.

"Qian represents Heaven, Kun represents Earth, Zhen represents Thunder, Xun represents Wind, Kan represents Water, Gen represents Mountain, Li represents Fire, and Dui represents Lake."

"If I'm not mistaken, the design of the mechanism should correspond to the Bagua (Eight Trigrams)."

Sure enough, following the Bagua pattern of three unbroken lines in the Qian trigram, six broken lines in the Kun trigram, emptiness in the middle of the Li trigram, fullness in the middle of the Kan trigram, an upturned bowl in the Zhen trigram, an overturned bowl in the Gen trigram, a broken top of the Dui trigram, and a broken bottom of the Xun trigram, she safely reached the exit of the iron prison.

However, when she finally managed to get out of the prison, the scene outside filled her with dread.

Gu Qianluo slowly walked out of the iron gate and saw a stone mountain outside the iron prison.

The shape of this rocky hill is very unnatural; it's obvious at a glance that it was man-made.

On that eerie stone mountain, a wolf with a blue glow emanating from its forehead was staring intently at her.

"There really is a wolf god." She couldn't help but exclaim.

In her previous life, she was sent into the cultivation world through a time tunnel. In that era, there were more demon beasts than humans, and everyone was proficient in magic. The demon core of the wolf god in front of her was one of the rare spiritual objects in the cultivation world.

Unfortunately, she is just an ordinary girl and knows nothing about cultivation techniques.

Although she didn't understand cultivation techniques, she had learned beast taming techniques from a reclusive master in her previous life.

She raised the dagger and slashed her index finger. Blood dripped onto the ground, and the wolves, smelling the crimson blood, suddenly became agitated, crouching and preparing to attack her.

She twitched her brow slightly, calmly drawing a beast-taming talisman on the ground while chanting incantations.

In an instant, a blue light shot from beneath her feet to the wolf king opposite her.

Although she cannot kill the divine beasts, she can communicate with them through the art of beast taming and spirit communication.

"Wolf King, I know how to get out of here. Follow me, I'll lead you away!"

From now on, you will no longer be imprisoned here; you are free again.

Gu Qianluo closed her eyes tightly, her hands forming a lotus-like gesture to communicate with the Wolf God.

Upon hearing her meaning, the wolf king's eyes suddenly welled up with tears, and he pleaded in a hoarse voice,

"Can you really take us away from here?"

“It’s absolutely true! Perhaps, apart from me, you will never have another chance to leave this place.”

Upon hearing this, the wolf king pondered for a moment, then silently lowered his body, pretending to be tamed.

Gu Qianluo narrowed her eyes slightly and said softly, "Follow me closely and don't take any other paths, otherwise, I can't guarantee you'll get out alive."

After saying that, Gu Qianluo withdrew her beast-taming technique and carefully searched for her position on the hem of her skirt.

"Heaven is the stem and Earth is the root. Now we must walk to the right of Earth to obtain life."

As soon as she finished speaking, she slowly walked away from the other side of the iron cage. The Wolf King slowly got up and followed behind her.

At this moment, in the shadows above the iron cage, a masked man stood with his hands behind his back.

He watched Gu Qianluo's every move from beginning to end, a sly smile playing on his lips.
