Chapter Seventy-Six: Protecting You

"Luo'er! Luo'er! Wake up!"

A familiar, deep, magnetic male voice rang out. Gu Qianluo struggled to open her soft eyelids, and when the familiar face appeared before her, she couldn't help but smile.

"Husband? What brings you here?"

She asked weakly, her memory of the man still lingering on his dashing figure as he went to war.

Seeing the glistening light in his bloodshot eyes, Gu Qianluo's heart skipped a beat, and she said softly,

Why are you crying? You're like a child.

As soon as she finished speaking, her soft body was pulled into someone's arms.

"Don't be afraid, Luo'er. I will find the best doctor for you. You will be alright."

Gu Qianlu's eyes flashed, and her body trembled uncontrollably. "I'm so cold!"

"Don't be afraid! I'll take you out right away!"

The next day, Gu Qianluo woke up from a nightmare and saw Chen Jinheng resting by the bed with his hands behind his head.

The events of yesterday flashed through her mind. She should have been able to get away smoothly after jumping off the cliff, but she accidentally tumbled into a cave thousands of feet high.

She didn't know any martial arts, and just as she caught her breath, a ferocious beast pounced on her.

During her struggle with the wild beast, it accidentally bit her leg. She mustered all her strength and stabbed at the beast's vital spot before fainting.

She doesn't remember what happened after that.

While Chen Jinheng was still fast asleep, she took out a few homemade pills from her sleeve and swallowed them dry.

This is a pill she refined herself; it can quickly restore physical strength and accelerate the body's repair capabilities.

The man seemed to be muttering something, and she leaned slightly forward to lean against him, trying to hear what he was saying.

"Luo'er, don't be afraid! Your husband is here!" Hearing this, Gu Qianluo's brows twitched slightly. Looking at his coat, which was stained with her blood, she sighed silently.

Although Gu Qianluo had a laceration on her calf, the medicine she had just taken quickly took effect. She had slept for so long that her blood was almost congealed. Lost in thought, she gently lifted the thin blanket, spread her arms, and stretched.

Chen Jinheng had been keeping watch over her all night, and she couldn't bear to wake him. She gently draped a cloak over his shoulders and tiptoed outside.

She had barely stepped half a step out of the house when six women dressed as maids stepped forward and bowed to her.

"Greetings, Second Madam. Second Madam, please rise. We will help you bathe and change."

"Second Madam?" This was a title used by servants in the Marquis's residence.

Gu Qianluo was taken aback, and looked around before asking the maid in front of her, "Are you from the Marquis's residence? Where is this place?"

"Reporting to Second Madam, this is Chaolu Manor, the estate of the Marquis's residence in Huaizhou. Yesterday, it was Second Young Master who carried Second Madam back."

Chaolu Manor? Isn't this exactly where she was supposed to come from?

She couldn't help but sigh, "I never imagined that coming to Chaolu Manor would involve so many hardships."

"I searched high and low without finding it, but then it came to me without any effort!"

The maids dressed her in summer finery, and her exquisitely beautiful face, with just a touch of makeup, possessed a captivating charm.

"Second Madam, shall we wake the Second Young Master?"

After the maids finished fussing over their mistress, their gazes all turned to the man inside the room.

Gu Qianlu's lips twitched involuntarily. Her gaze swept over the restless faces of the maids, and she gave a curt order.

"The Second Young Master was too tired from taking care of me yesterday, so let's not disturb him for now."

Upon hearing this, the maids replied dejectedly, "Yes! We obey!"

Seeing that the maids were still reluctant to leave, she suddenly spoke up.

"I wish to have breakfast in the garden. I wonder if the kitchen has prepared it?"

As she finished speaking, she pointed to the pavilion not far away.

"Don't worry, Second Madam. The kitchen has already prepared breakfast for the Second Young Master and Second Madam. If you need anything, I will immediately call the kitchen to bring it over."

"Okay, bring breakfast to the pavilion later."

"Second Madam, your calf is injured. Let me help you over there!"

"No need, I have this. You can go now! I want to be alone for a while."

After giving some instructions, he dismissed the maids and, leaning on a mahogany cane, walked towards the pavilion by the lotus pond in the garden.

Chen Jinheng is a light sleeper; he woke up shortly after Gu Qianluo left.

His gaze fell on the empty bed, and when he couldn't see the person he longed for, his eyes suddenly darkened.

He suddenly stood up and ran outside, shouting, "Someone! Where did the Second Madam go?"

Gu Qianlu stood in the pavilion not far away and happened to see the man's flustered and anxious back. A trace of regret flashed through her heart.

She quickly stood up and called out softly, "Husband! I'm over here!"

Upon hearing the voice, Chen Jinheng suddenly turned his head and saw her looking radiant and smiling. His tense heart gradually relaxed.

He rushed to her side, pulled her into his arms, and comforted her, "Why are you acting so recklessly, my lady? You got up and didn't even call out to your husband?"

"I saw you were sleeping soundly, and I didn't have the heart to wake you."

"Madam is so considerate." Hearing this, Chen Jinheng smiled and picked her up, carrying her to the stone bench in the pavilion.

"Husband, put me down! Everyone's watching!"

Before she could struggle, Chen Jinheng pulled open her trouser leg, revealing a shocking wound.

His heart tightened, and he took out a bottle of painkiller powder from his body, gently sprinkling the powder on her wound.

"Does it hurt?"

"It was still in pain, but it's better now. Thank you, my husband, your medicine really works."

"Take this and apply it for seven consecutive days; the wound will heal quickly."

"Oh!" Gu Qianlu responded softly, burying her head in his chest. Something suddenly flashed through her mind, and she looked up to ask.

"By the way, how did you know that Luo'er was in trouble, my husband?"

"It was Gu Zijun who wrote to inform her husband."

"Oh, then aren't you afraid that I'll really elope with Zhuying?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Jinheng's eyes darkened, and he gently tapped her little head. "You dare?"

Meeting his deep gaze, Gu Qianluo couldn't help but tremble, and said softly, "I wouldn't dare."

"It is said that the madam discovered problems with the accounts of Chaolu Manor?"

"Yes, that's why I thought of going to investigate in person."

"Why only with Zhu Ying? Is it to avoid suspicion?"

"My husband knows that Chaolu Manor is the property of the eldest young master, and the accounts here have always been managed by my sister-in-law. If we come here in a big way, we might alert the enemy."

"So that's what you were worried about." Chen Jinheng's eyes were cold.

"Yes, my husband, you have military duties to attend to right now, so you should go back first. I'll take care of the investigation here."

"You really want to get rid of your husband? But am I in your way here?"

Gu Qianluo narrowed her eyes slightly, and unconsciously curled her lips, waving her hands repeatedly, "No! No! It's just that with my husband here, people will think that I'm using his power to bully others."

"Oh? Then I'm definitely going to be the tiger husband!"

"What do you mean?" Gu Qianluo asked in a hoarse voice, her brows furrowing slightly.

"Someone come here! Summon Manager Liu!"
