Wanfeng has planned the development of 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 displacement engines, striving to have its own engines that are at least as good as Mitsubishi's 4G series engines around the year 2000.

Mitsubishi's 4G series engine can be said to be the ancestor of China's automobile industry. Wan Feng is not sure how many Chinese automobile companies have been supported by a Mitsubishi engine.

Anyway, if you randomly check ten cars produced by domestic manufacturers, it would be a bit exaggerated to say that nine of them use Mitsubishi 4G engines, but it is not an exaggeration to say that seven of them use Mitsubishi engines.

The reason for this phenomenon is that foreign manufacturers do not provide engine technology at all and do not sell engines to Chinese manufacturers.

Even manufacturers with whom we have deep cooperation don’t even think about acquiring engine technology.

Only Mitsubishi is willing to openly supply its engines, which can only be considered second- or third-rate in the world. This has led to the situation where nine out of ten Chinese independent car companies use Mitsubishi engines.

Mitsubishi first invested in and established engine factories in China in 1997 and 1998, establishing the Shenyang Aviation Mitsubishi and Dong'an Mitsubishi engine factories respectively.

Wanfeng's goal is to have its engines replace Mitsubishi's position among Chinese automakers in six or seven years.

In addition to its own use, Nanwan Group will also supply it to various domestic automakers.

Of course, it would be even better if it could reach the engine level of Volkswagen and Toyota.

Wan Feng believes that with the intelligence and hard work of the Chinese people, if they start now and continue with research and development without slacking off, it will not be an empty talk to catch up with the engine level of Toyota and Volkswagen in ten or twenty years.
