"Squeak..."
The chipmunk shook off its rain-soaked fur and then darted into its burrow.
The burrow that was once dug out of the pit has now become the little guy's largest storage warehouse.
In the chipmunk's mind, the tiger is the most powerful animal, and no animal would dare to steal things from where the tiger sleeps.
So now it lives in a pine tree cave, and the cave has become a warehouse of pine cones, so full that they are piled up to the entrance.
Lin Qian yawned and watched as the chipmunk, its little bottom sticking out, slowly shuffled out of the hole. Curious, he leaned over to take a look.
What's this little guy doing?
After releasing all the pine cones they had brought back, the chipmunk finally retreated to the entrance of its burrow.
"Squeak!" Tiger King!
As soon as I came out, I suddenly saw a big head.
The chipmunk was startled, but having lived in the tiger's den for so long, it had become somewhat accustomed to the tiger's presence and was no longer as afraid as before.
"clatter…"
A pine cone rolled around and fell out with a thud.
Chipmunks dig burrows starting from the earthen wall, so the entrance is positioned slightly above ground level.
As soon as the chipmunk moved aside, the burrow, which was full of pine cones, was no longer blocked, and the cones fell out.
Looking at the numerous burrows, Lin Qian was quite impressed with the chipmunk; the little guy was really capable!
It wasn't that he didn't recognize chipmunks; he'd seen plenty of cute pictures and memes of them before. But he really didn't know anything about their habits or anything like that.
So he was genuinely surprised that such a tiny body could bring back so many pine cones; it was impossible not to be astonished.
Seeing that the tiger didn't move, the chipmunk rolled its shiny black eyes and quickly scooped up the fallen pine cone.
The chipmunk, seeing the tiger's eyes staring straight at it, flinched and quickly raised the pine cone in its paw.
"Squeak!" Tiger King! Here you go!
Lin Qian was speechless as he looked at the pine cone that was being shoved into his mouth. He was a tiger; he didn't eat that stuff.
With a low growl, Lin Qian signaled the chipmunk to go about its business. Lin Qian then turned and lay back down in the grass.
Tiger Mom and Courage were fast asleep nearby; rainy days are perfect for sleeping.
The tigress wasn't in the pit, nor would she be outside in the rain.
After the tigress decided to settle down, Lin Qian mustered his courage and started digging again on the adjacent earthen wall.
It wasn't that he didn't want the tigress to live with them, but when he expanded the pit, he had already dug up the tree roots, and he was afraid that if he dug any further, it would collapse.
The tigress, of course, had no objection. Although she didn't know why the cub was so insistent on living in the cave, she was still happy to help dig in the earthen wall.
Having learned from past experience, Lin Qian was able to coordinate with Yongqi very quickly this time.
The pit was dug in three days, and the cave could hold three or four adult tigers.
A tigress living alone certainly doesn't need so many, but there's also the tigress father, right? Although the tigress father won't stay for long, he can't be ignored.
By late autumn, suitable dry branches are easy to find, but grass is really hard to find.
After one or two rains, the withered grass had long since softened and rotted.
The branches were naturally soft ones that Lin Qian picked up. Many shrubs in the forest have tough but soft branches, and Lin Qian wouldn't be foolish enough to put a bunch of tough stuff under his nest.
The soft branches of shrubs are mostly slender, so Lin Qian didn't just collect them and pile them up; instead, she wove them a little.
I may not have the technical skills, but I do know the weaving method for the well pattern. It's not like having claws is all you need.
Since there was no soft, dry hay, Lin Qian had no choice but to use the animal fur he had made himself.
Yes, Lin Qian started collecting furs gradually as autumn approached.
Although he knew that tigers grow thick fur to protect themselves from the cold in winter, this was, after all, his first time experiencing winter as a tiger, so he still made extra preparations.
It's always better to be prepared, so you don't end up with nothing to keep warm when it gets really cold.
It's okay if you don't use it; it can still improve your quality of life by putting it in your straw nest.
Lin Qian's collection consisted mostly of deer and roe deer hides, and he also had two wild boar hides.
However, wild boar skin is not only not soft but also has a strong smell, so Lin Qian kept two male wild boar skins.
These furs are naturally not as good as those processed by humans. In fact, Lin Qian didn't even know how to make fur. He only figured out how to preserve it after messing around with it.
Lin Qian almost licked his tongue numb in order to remove any remaining grease or residue from the fur.
After licking it clean, he had no other tools to use, so he just washed it in the pond and hung it on a tree branch, and that was it.
Such crudely made fur naturally has a low success rate. Since autumn, whenever Lin Qian has the chance, he asks Tiger Mom to help him completely skin the prey.
Tiger Mom's claws are incredibly sharp, and she's very experienced. Under Lin Qian's enthusiastic guidance, her skinning skills are now superb. With just a few quick swipes, she can produce a complete pelt.
Unfortunately, Lin Qian lacked experience at the beginning, and many of the furs that were processed and hung on the trees to dry smelled bad.
After several attempts, Lin Qiancai concluded that it must be placed in a shady spot, away from direct sunlight. Also, the fleshy side should face outwards, otherwise that side will still spoil.
So far, Lin Qian has only acquired a dozen or so usable large furs.
There were quite a few rabbit pelts, and with the idea that every little bit helps, Lin Qian naturally didn't let the rabbits go. The main reason was that the rabbits were fluffy and their fur was really nice; it would be a shame to throw them away.
The rabbit was too small, and its fur was just a tiny piece. Since he didn't have a needle and thread to sew it up, the whole thing ended up being used as a base for the tigress's den.
