Side Story: Shadow of Loyalty 9 - Defection and Insurrection

This person is a key part of my plan!

After a grueling two-day and one-night trek, the suicide squad, like demons crawling out of hell, finally arrived near the White Wolf Mountain Pass.

In the distance, the lights of the Wuhuan camp were faintly visible in the wind and snow.

"stop!"

The military commander reined in his horse, signaling the troops to stop and rest at the edge of a sparse, sheltered grove of trees.

The military commander jumped off his horse, rubbing his frozen hands, and complained to his close officers, "Damn it, this awful weather. Let these good-for-nothings catch their breath first, and we'll launch the attack in half an hour."

Remember, drive them forward to draw the Wuhuan arrows. You follow behind, and only attack when the opportunity arises. The supplies are crucial; don't let these peasants waste them!

His voice wasn't loud, but it carried clearly on the cold wind into Li Ru's ears, who was not far away.

Li Ru huddled under a withered tree, his eyes closed as if he were dozing, but the knuckles of his hand gripping the dagger at his waist were slightly white from the force, and a cold killing intent silently spread in his heart.

The rest period was short and depressing.

The daredevil soldiers gnawed on their frozen rations, their eyes numb as they stared at the distant lights, awaiting the final charge.

"Woo! Woo! Woo!"

Suddenly, a mournful horn sound came from the direction of the Wuhuan camp without warning!

Immediately afterwards, the Wuhuan camp was like a hornet's nest that had been blown open, with countless torches suddenly lighting up, illuminating the shadowy figures of cavalrymen in the wind and snow!

"Oh no! The Wuhuan have discovered us!" Terrified screams instantly erupted in the suicide squad!

"Don't panic, get ready to fire the arrows!"

The military commander roared in exasperation, commanding the few well-equipped officers and a small number of archers around him to hastily engage in battle.

Whoosh whoosh!

Soon, the arrows of the Wuhuan people rained down like locusts!

The suicide squad was thrown into chaos instantly, with screams, curses, and muffled thuds of arrows hitting the ground all mixed together!

"Charge! All of you, charge forward and stop them!"

Liu the Scarface brandished his broadsword, his one eye bloodshot, attempting to reorganize the chaotic ranks.

However, under the charge of the highly mobile Wuhuan cavalry, the Daredevil Battalion's resistance was as fragile as paper.

Before they could catch their breath, the Wuhuan cavalry, like a black tide, easily tore through the thin lines of the suicide squad, and then, wielding their scimitars, reaped lives as easily as cutting melons and vegetables!

Chaos! Utter chaos!

The daredevils cried out and scattered in all directions, like a flock of frightened sheep, leaving messy footprints and glaring scarlet marks in the snow.

Li Ru, like a slippery eel, nimbly weaved and tumbled through the chaotic crowd and whistling arrows.

He did not rush towards the Wuhuan people, nor did he blindly flee. Instead, he turned his gaze to the messenger who was trying to mount his horse and escape, protected by several close guards.

Now!

A cold glint flashed in Li Ru's eyes, and then he suddenly picked up a fallen horsebow and half a quiver of arrows from beside a corpse.

He crouched low, using the chaos of the crowd and the cover of the snowstorm to quietly close the distance with the military commander.

Fifty steps... thirty steps... twenty steps...

The military officer had just scrambled onto his horse in a disheveled state when a close attendant was desperately trying to deflect an arrow at him!

Li Ru also stopped, then nocked an arrow and drew the bow in one smooth motion!

The bowstring was drawn to its fullest extent!

Li Ru's target wasn't the military commander, but rather the officer who was protecting him with all his might!

"call out!"

The arrow left the bowstring with a piercing whistling sound, piercing the back of the officer in charge, the arrowhead spurting blood from his chest!

"Well!"

The officer in charge only managed to let out a short, muffled groan before falling off his horse!

"Old Zhang!" The military officer exclaimed in utter shock!

In the very moment he lost his composure!

The second arrow followed immediately!

"Pfft!"

The cold arrowhead pierced precisely into the side of the marshal's unprotected neck, and blood gushed out like a fountain.

The military commander's eyes widened suddenly. He clutched his bleeding neck with both hands, making a strange hoarse sound in his throat. His body swayed, and he fell heavily off the horse like a broken sack, splashing up a cloud of snow and mud!

"The military commander is dead!"

"The Han dog officer is dead!"

On the chaotic battlefield, this cry of alarm spread like a plague.

The remaining Han officers and soldiers instantly lost their leader, and their morale completely collapsed!

After Li Ru shot and killed the military commander, he did not linger at all and immediately ran towards the flank where the main force of the Wuhuan people was charging.

As he ran, he shouted at the top of his lungs in the Wuhuan language, which he had only recently learned and which still had a stiff accent:

"Don't fire the arrows, they're on our side!"

"I surrender! I surrender!"

"I have important military intelligence to report to Chief Qiu Liju!"

Li Ru's shouts sounded particularly abrupt in this chaotic battlefield.

A Wuhuan centurion noticed the strange behavior of the Han man, immediately reined in his horse, pointed his scimitar at Li Ru, and shouted sternly, "You Han dog, what are you shouting for?!"

Li Ru stopped, panting heavily, then slammed the riding bow in his hand to the ground, and pulled out the dagger from his waist, throwing it far away as well.

Then, he suddenly ripped open his tattered clothes, revealing his battered chest!

Amidst the howling wind and snow, he pointed to the most gruesome old scar on his chest and roared madly:

"Look, this was all left behind by the Han dogs' government troops. I hate the Han people and I hate that dog emperor!"

I just killed their officer. Take me to Chief Qiuliju quickly. I can help you. I know the Han army's weaknesses, and I know where the supplies are..."
