Chapter 660 Holding Hands (5)

Chapter 660 Holding Hands (5)

Although it seems that there is no one on the street at the moment, it is hard not to feel uneasy.

"What are you afraid of? My people are following you and will remind you if anything goes wrong." Xie Jingxing said.

While Shen Miao was distracted, Xie Jingxing had already tied the veil on her face, revealing only her eyes. Her eyes were round and watery, with clear black and white, and they were even more endearing under the dim light of the lantern. Xie Jingxing helped her put on the hat and raised an eyebrow, saying, "Not bad."

To avoid unnecessary complications, Shen Miao finally found a set of servant's clothes to wear. The hat was a little inappropriate and always covered her eyes. However, she forgot to bring her cloak when she came out. Xie Jingxing looked at her carefully, then put his cloak on Shen Miao and said, "Let's go."

“Just walk over like that?” Shen Miao was extremely surprised.

"The east side of the city isn't far away." Xie Jingxing disagreed: "It's nice to take a walk. You haven't seen Dingjing at night, have you?"

Shen Miao was silent.

Most of the night scenes she had seen were within the square walls of Mingqi Palace. Sometimes she would sit in the vast Kunning Palace, thinking about the annoying things in the harem, and would sit there all night long. Sometimes she would go to the Imperial Garden and see Fu Xiuyi chatting and laughing with various beauties.

As the head of the six palaces, it seemed that her nights were like a single night every ten years, lonely, unfree, deserted, and unnoticed.

She had regretted it and envied the carefree life outside the palace.

Xie Jingxing said: "No one here sees you, knows you, do whatever you want."

Shen Miao looked at the other person's handsome features, and suddenly felt a little envious.

In reality, Xie Jingxing had lived to this day, serving as both the young marquis of the Lin'an Marquisate and Prince Rui, the younger brother of the Yongle Emperor of Daliang. While others only saw his superficial glory, the burden he shouldered was undoubtedly no less than Shen Miao's. Yet, his inherent pride and arrogance seemed to have remained unchanged. No external factors could alter his strength, as if no matter how the sun and moon changed, or the stars shifted, he would still stand there with an unshakable and powerful presence. Others could only look up to him.

Shen Miao envied those who were strong at heart. She felt that she was not as strong as Xie Jingxing, because when she occasionally thought of Wanyu and Fu Ming, and thought of all the things in her past life, she would feel tired.

Xie Jingxing's eyes suddenly became sharp. He pinched her chin and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Shen Miao broke free from his hand, turned around and said, "Nothing." She didn't want anyone to notice her inner emotions, so she turned around and took two quick steps. However, she was not used to wearing the man's boots, and the ground was very slippery because of the ice. She almost fell headfirst. Fortunately, Xie Jingxing grabbed her arm, frowned and scolded her, "Be careful." However, the hand in his sleeve slid down and grabbed Shen Miao's hand.

His hand was slender and cold, but it just happened to hold Shen Miao's hand in his palm. Shen Miao's heart moved, and she subconsciously wanted to break free, but she didn't expect Xie Jingxing's hand to be so tight that she couldn't break free at all.

Xie Jing Xing said calmly: "I'll hold you so that you don't slip."

“I’ll be careful and won’t slip,” Shen Miao said.

"Then I'm afraid I might slip, so you hold my hand." He continued without frowning.

Shen Miao: “…”

Heavy snow blanketed the entire street, making it seem as though it were a silvery white. The lanterns illuminated the sleet, a lovely sight. Shen Miao would occasionally look up at the sky. It was bright and spacious, far more beautiful than a square, angular sky. The street was quiet; no one would notice her. Some of her unfulfilled wishes from her past life were now fulfilled. The palm of her hand, held by the young man beside her, was slightly damp, and a smile gradually grew on her face.
