Chapter 661 Holding Hands (6)

Chapter 661 Holding Hands (6)

The night is really beautiful, Shen Miao felt.

But she didn't see the smile that flashed across the handsome young man's eyes, which was more moving than fireworks.

In a private house in the east of the city, a loud snoring could be heard from one of the rooms. The room was filled with the strong smell of alcohol, which was pungent. Several wine jars were scattered on the floor, and the man in the bed was sleeping soundly.

In the next room, a child of eight or nine was lying in bed. This room was obviously much narrower than the one next door. He lay there for a while, then sat up. It seemed the snoring next door had disturbed him and he couldn't sleep. He stood up, wrapped in his blankets, and walked to the small courtyard surrounded by bamboo fences.

The child went to the toilet and was about to return to the house when he saw two people standing in the yard. He was so frightened that he was about to shout, but the taller man threw a stone at him. In an instant, the child was frozen in place and couldn't speak.

The two men then approached him.

Under the dim light of the lanterns outside, the faces of the two gradually became clear. One was petite, wearing the kind of clothes a servant would wear, but she was still clearly a woman. She was covered in a cape so large it almost didn't fit her, and a scarf covered her face, covering everything from her nose down except her eyes. This made her eyes appear even clearer, and one couldn't help but think that if she took off the scarf, she would be a beauty.

As for the person next to the petite figure… the boy was practically transfixed. He was incredibly tall and straight, dressed in a purple robe embroidered with gold cloud patterns. The robe was a bit loose, and the dark belt accentuated his flowing appearance. He was incredibly handsome, his peach blossom eyes looking at him in the night, as if the winter snow were blossoming like layers of spring flowers. Could he be an immortal descended from heaven? Otherwise, why would his every move be so graceful and captivating, a natural elegance?

The smaller one gave the purple-robed man a look, then asked softly, "What's your name?"

The child felt his throat loosen up, coughed twice, and suddenly found he could speak again. The voice was a woman's, very gentle, and the child's fear gradually subsided. He said nervously, "My name is Huaisheng."

"Huaisheng," the woman asked, "is your mother's name Chang Zaiqing?"

Huaisheng was stunned for a moment, and then his eyes turned red. He looked at the woman cautiously and asked, "Do you know my mother? Do you know where my mother is? I haven't seen my mother for a long time. They said she wouldn't come back. Someone brought us here, saying we could see her, but she's not here."

Shen Miao sighed inwardly. This child was about the same age as Su Minglang two years ago, but back then, Su Minglang was a naive, almost idiotic, sticky rice ball, while this child was much more pitiful. Chang Zaiqing abandoned her husband and son because her husband was addicted to alcohol and gambling, and life was unbearable. But before she left, she hadn't considered how difficult it would be for her young son to live with such an irresponsible father. Therefore, Chang Zaiqing did not deserve sympathy or forgiveness, because a mother who could be so cruel was no longer worthy of being called a "mother."

"Don't be afraid." Shen Miao took out a handkerchief and wiped the child's tears. Huaisheng was somewhat flattered. This woman had beautiful eyes, and presumably her appearance was not bad either. Although she wore the clothes of a servant, her hands were white and tender. Huaisheng knew that these hands were different from his own hands, which were covered with calluses from doing rough work. They were obviously from a wealthy family. This woman must also be very wealthy, and yet such a noble person wiped the tears of a lowly person like him... Even his own mother had never treated him so gently. Huaisheng looked at her with a bit of infatuation.

A light cough was heard from the purple-robed man standing beside Shen Miao. He glanced at Huai Sheng and said coldly, "Go in."

Huaisheng felt a chill run down his spine at that glance. He didn't know why, but even this incredibly handsome man, even without doing anything, could still make him feel terrified with just a simple glance. He shuddered back to his senses, only to see the woman in front of him retract her handkerchief, her eyes soft and gentle.

Shen Miao was only thinking of her own children, Fu Ming and Wan Yu. Having a father like Fu Xiuyi, Fu Ming and Wan Yu also had a hard time. And although she didn't run away, she was powerless to change the fate of her children, and her situation was no better than Chang Zaiqing's.

Suppressing the complex emotions in her heart, she said, "Huaisheng, take us to meet your father."
