Chapter 23: Believe or Not
Mingzhu closed her eyes because of the golden light in front of her.
The next second, the whole person seemed to float up and fall into the soft clouds.
Time seemed to have passed for a long time, yet it also seemed to have passed in just a blink of an eye.
When Mingzhu opened her eyes again.
What came into view was a strange yet familiar room.
The large flat she lived in when she was studying abroad.
Mingzhu looked around subconsciously.
The dazzling sunlight shines in unhindered through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Mingzhu subconsciously raised her hand to block it.
She looked down at herself and saw that she was no longer wearing the same long dress as before.
But it was her favorite silk home clothes at that time.
The light grey fabric is soft and snug fitting.
When my fingers touched the fabric, the touch was incredibly real.
Mingzhu got out of bed barefoot and stepped onto the soft shag carpet.
She walked towards the floor-to-ceiling window that almost took up the entire wall and touched the slightly cold one-way glass.
Outside the window, the vast greenery of Central Park is in full view, and people look as small as ants from this height.
The room was so quiet that only the faint sound of the air conditioner could be heard.
She walked into the living room, where a few pillows were casually thrown on the leather sofa and a half-drunk bottle of sparkling water was placed on the coffee table.
It all seemed too real, with even a faint fragrance wafting through the air.
Mingzhu stood in the middle of the living room.
The sunlight enveloped her entire body, making her feel warm.
Everything is exactly as I remembered.
She turned around suddenly and found her cell phone by memory.
Wait until you can see the date displayed on the screen.
Her heart began to beat violently.
She returned to the age of eighteen!
He quickly walked into the dressing room and stood in front of the full-length mirror.
Mingzhu thought she would see herself at the age of 42.
But what she saw in the mirror was what she looked like when she was eighteen.
Long, slightly curly black hair and a face full of collagen.
Even without makeup, she is still extremely beautiful.
Mingzhu suddenly remembered something and hurriedly picked up her phone to call her grandfather.
But he hung up immediately after dialing.
It’s still late at night in China, and we can’t disturb grandpa’s sleep.
But not long after she hung up, the call came back.
"Miss, what's wrong? The old man has gone to bed."
Uncle Zhou's voice came through the receiver.
Not as old as she had seen him the last time in her previous life.
There is also some clarity that belongs to middle-aged people.
Mingzhu, who had not yet completely recovered from her sadness, heard the familiar voice.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I was choked with sobs and couldn't speak.
Hearing the crying, Uncle Zhou suddenly became nervous: "Miss? Why are you crying?"
"Uncle Zhou...I want to go home." Mingzhu sobbed, feeling aggrieved. "I want to go home right now."
The voice on the other end of the phone suddenly became sharp: "Did someone bully you?"
No wonder Uncle Zhou thought so.
Mingzhu became particularly rebellious after entering puberty.
He was determined to study abroad, and even Mr. Ming couldn't stop him.
She has rarely returned home over the years.
Although Mr. Ming missed her, he couldn't bear to make her unhappy, so he had to let her go.
"No...no..." Mingzhu wiped away her tears, her voice trembling, "I just miss grandpa...I have to go back now."
Uncle Zhou was obviously relieved, and his tone softened: "Okay, I'll arrange it right away. The young lady has really grown up."
After hanging up the phone, Mingzhu walked out of the bedroom quickly.
This large flat was purchased by her grandfather specifically after she went abroad.
She doesn't like living with outsiders.
Usually only the cleaning lady and the chef come here.
Luggage and other things are not important, I will buy new ones when I return home.
Mingzhu hurriedly sent a leave request email to the professor and went straight to the airport.
This was thanks to the private jet route that the Ming family had already applied for for her convenience.
Mingzhu set off without waiting for long.
The private plane landed smoothly on the tarmac of the Ming family manor.
Uncle Zhou had been waiting for a long time.
After seeing the plane stop steadily, he quickly walked forward and said, "Miss."
When Mingzhu's feet stepped on the land of Shanghai.
The sky was just beginning to turn pale.
Mingzhu looked at the middle-aged man in front of her, and the image of the white-haired old man in her memory overlapped and separated. A warm feeling welled up in her heart: "Uncle Zhou, thank you for your hard work."
This sudden concern made Uncle Zhou slightly stunned.
Mingzhu would never say such things in the past.
A smile appeared in the corner of his eyes: "Miss, you are welcome."
"Grandpa hasn't woken up yet, right?" Mingzhu asked anxiously.
"The old man doesn't get up until eight o'clock."
Uncle Zhou said this, motioning Mingzhu to get on the golf cart that had been prepared long ago.
Mr. Ming has a very regular schedule.
It has remained the same for decades, without any change.
Hearing this, Mingzhu couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth.
"How's Grandpa's health lately?"
"I'm fine." Uncle Zhou opened the car door for Mingzhu. "He was still talking about you the other day. The old man must be very happy to have you back."
Mingzhu's nose felt sore.
In her previous life, she spent very little time with her grandfather.
By the time we truly begin to understand how to cherish, it is already too late.
The golf cart slowly drove towards the main building.
The garden staff have already started working.
When they saw the two people in the car, they all greeted them.
When Mingzhu saw this scene, the feeling of returning to the age of eighteen became more real.
I was in a very good mood, and everything I saw was joyful. I responded to everything with a smile.
"The young lady has changed a lot." Uncle Zhou said suddenly.
Some of these staff members have worked in the Ming family for half their lives.
Some of them watched Mingzhu grow up and knew what kind of flowers she liked even better than she did herself.
But Mingzhu never pays attention to these little things in daily life.
Mingzhu is proud.
She does have the capital to look down on everyone.
"People always change." Mingzhu chuckled. "Uncle Zhou, do you think this is a bad thing?"
"How could that be?" Uncle Zhou said sincerely, "Miss is the best no matter what."
Whether it is the pearl of the past or the pearl of the present.
She just needs to do what she wants.
"What would you like for breakfast, miss?"
After stopping the car, Uncle Zhou opened the door for Mingzhu again.
"Whatever."
Mingzhu has no appetite to eat now.
Uncle Zhou was not at all embarrassed when he heard such a casual remark.
He has been the steward of the Ming family for so many years.
He knew Mr. Ming and Mingzhu's habits too well.
"Miss, we just brought in fresh hairy crabs from Chengyang Lake yesterday. Would you like me to make some crab roe buns for you?"
Mingzhu was stunned when she heard this.
When she was young, her favorite food was crab roe buns.
But later she wanted to maintain her figure.
I haven't eaten these high cholesterol foods for many years.
"Okay," Mingzhu smiled, her eyes curved. "Add some ginger vinegar sauce, and a little sugar."
"Okay miss, I'll get ready."
Uncle Zhou bowed slightly, with a hint of doting hidden in the fine lines at the corners of his eyes.
Walking into the main building, it looked different than the last thing Mingzhu remembered.
The main building is now full of life.
She didn't believe in Buddhism, at least not in her previous life.
But in his later years, Mr. Ming became pious and began to worship Buddha.
There is a Buddhist hall in the main building.
Ever since Mingzhu went abroad to study.
The old man often stays in there for most of the day.
Mingzhu was very excited at this moment and had no desire to sleep.
Mingzhu gently pushed open the sandalwood door of the Buddhist hall.
A strong scent of sandalwood hits you in the face.
She took three incense sticks and lit them next to the eternal lamp.
Green smoke rises.
In the center of the Buddhist hall, the Buddha statue made of pure gold is shining brightly.
When the first ray of sunlight in the morning shines through the glass window and falls on the compassionate and smiling face of the Buddha statue, it is full of compassion for the world.
After Mingzhu finished her worship, she respectfully placed the incense into the pure gold incense burner in front of the table.
The incense in the incense burner burned quietly, and she suddenly remembered something that happened many years ago.
At that time, my grandfather specially invited an old man with white hair and beard.
The two talked for a long time in the study.
When they were about to leave, the old man gazed at her deeply with his eyes that were not tainted by the world.
He said something meaningful to her.
"Miss Ming, if you believe it, it exists; if you don't believe it, it doesn't exist. But the most important thing is to be sincere."
