Chapter 25 Complete Relief
Even though she was sleeping soundly, Mingzhu still felt tired.
Struggling to wake up from a messy dream.
The sky was gradually getting dark.
The dim light in the room made it difficult for her to distinguish between dreams and reality.
Mingzhu sat up quickly, her chest heaving violently, her palms covered in cold sweat.
"Is this... my room?"
Muttering softly, Mingzhu clutched the sheets tightly.
As my eyes swept over the familiar furnishings in the room, a strong sense of unreality swept over my body.
She was eighteen years old again, in an eighteen-year-old body and an eighteen-year-old room.
Could it be that all this is just an illusion because she misses her grandfather so much?
A sharp palpitation gripped her heart.
Mingzhu threw back the quilt and rushed out barefoot without even bothering to put on her shoes.
The thick carpet absorbed her hurried footsteps, but it couldn't stop her pounding heart.
"Miss!"
The cleaning staff in the corridor were startled by Mingzhu who suddenly rushed out and hurriedly greeted her.
Mingzhu didn't have the heart to respond to them now.
At this moment, she had only one thought, which was to confirm with her own eyes whether her grandfather was still there.
Mingzhu ran to the study, the door of which was closed.
Her hand, which was hanging on the door handle, was shaking.
Countless chaotic thoughts flashed through my mind.
Just when she was about to push the door.
The study door suddenly opened from the inside.
Several elderly men in suits and ties came out.
When they saw her, they all paused, then smiled kindly: "Miss."
Mingzhu recognized them. They were all veterans of the Ming Group and old friends of her grandfather.
In their previous lives, they had all passed away one after another.
She suppressed her rapid breathing and nodded politely: "Hello, Grandpa Xu, Grandpa Wang, and Grandpa Zhang."
"Oh, Mingzhu is getting more and more beautiful!"
Director Wang looked at her with a smile, his eyes full of the kindness of an elder.
"Grandpas, thank you for the compliment."
Mingzhu responded softly, but her eyes couldn't help but look past them and into the study from time to time.
They are all the best of the best.
Of course, I could tell at a glance that she was absent-minded.
Director Xu patted Director Wang on the shoulder and jokingly said, "No wonder Lao Ming insisted on working from home today. It turns out his darling granddaughter is back!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a powerful voice came from the study.
"You old guys, what are you doing blocking my granddaughter's way? Get out of the way!"
Old Master Ming is about to come out. He is only just over sixty years old now.
When he saw Mingzhu, a smile instantly filled his eyes and he reached out to rub the top of her head: "Zhuzhu, are you awake?"
Mingzhu felt the warmth of the palm above her head.
My eyes became hot again and tears were about to fall.
Director Wang saw this and shook his head, smiling, saying, "Brother Hu is so lucky. Those brats in my family are always away from home. They are nowhere near as considerate as Mingzhu."
Old Master Ming snorted proudly: "Of course, my granddaughter is naturally the best!"
Several directors laughed and exchanged a few words before saying goodbye and leaving.
After everyone left, Mr. Ming took Mingzhu's hand and slowly walked into the study.
Mingzhu's fingers tightly grasped Mr. Ming's sleeves.
Uncle Zhou was cleaning up the tea set he had just used for the guests. Seeing this, he immediately stopped and said, "Miss."
Wait until the study becomes quiet again.
Mr. Ming sat down on the sofa.
Mr. Ming's eyes were filled with heartache.
"Zhuzhu, tell grandpa, what happened?"
Mingzhu looked at the healthy and strong Mr. Ming.
An uncontrollable sadness welled up in my heart again.
Without waiting for the two to react, she knelt down.
Uncle Zhou's face changed drastically when he saw this, and he hurried forward to help Mingzhu up: "Miss..."
The words haven't been finished yet.
Old Master Ming raised his hand to stop him, his palm paused in the air, his eyes full of depth.
Uncle Zhou immediately understood what Mr. Ming meant.
He took a half step back and looked quietly at Mingzhu who was kneeling on the ground.
Old Master Ming looked at Mingzhu gravely.
He suppressed the urge to help her up immediately.
Sometimes, people need such rituals to vent their emotions and confirm the truth.
Mingzhu rested her forehead against the ground, unwilling to get up for a long time.
A tear fell from the corner of her eye and quickly disappeared on the carpet.
The first muffled sound was particularly clear in the quiet room.
Mr. Ming's fingers on the armrest suddenly tightened.
The second blow was harder than the previous one.
Uncle Zhou stood aside, his lips moved, but still no sound came out.
After the third kowtow, Mingzhu slowly straightened up.
Mingzhu used all her strength.
A red mark has appeared on the smooth forehead.
"Grandpa..." Her voice was very soft, as if she was afraid of disturbing something, "Thank you... I missed you so much..."
Old Master Ming kowtowed and nodded with a normal expression.
Only the bulging veins on the back of his hand revealed his extreme inner unrest.
Old Master Ming's eyes swept across Mingzhu's red forehead.
And fell on her tearful eyes.
This is definitely not an ordinary grievance, something huge must have happened.
Who could it be?
Old Master Ming screened all possible enemies in his mind.
A rival in the business world? An old enemy of the Ming family? Or... those shady forces?
Old Master Ming stood up slowly, taking each step steadily.
Lift Mingzhu up from the ground.
The faint scent of sandalwood from Mr. Ming surrounded her.
He observed the red mark on Mingzhu's forehead, but his voice was softer than ever.
"Zhuzhu, tell grandpa, who made you suffer?"
Mingzhu took a deep breath.
Under the serious gaze of the two elders, he slowly began to talk about his past life.
Mr. Ming and Uncle Zhou exchanged complicated glances, but neither interrupted her story.
After finishing speaking, Mingzhu raised her head and held Grandpa Ming's hand tightly.
"Grandpa, promise me that you won't look for that pocket watch again. I only ask that you stay healthy and accompany me in the future..."
At the end of her words, her voice choked again.
In her heart, none of the chance to start over or the pocket watch that could change her destiny could compare to her grandfather's peace and happiness.
After all, she didn't take that somewhat failed marriage to heart.
What she cared about most was her grandfather's early death.
He died suddenly and painfully due to a serious illness.
Uncle Zhou eased the atmosphere at the right time.
"Old man, it seems that the young lady had a terrible nightmare."
Old Master Ming's expression visibly relaxed, and he gently patted Mingzhu's back with his big hand.
"Yes, Zhuzhu, it was just a dream. Look, isn't grandpa here all right?"
"Then you must promise me that you will never look for that pocket watch..."
Mingzhu repeated stubbornly, with an unprecedented seriousness in her eyes.
Old Master Ming was amused by her childish persistence, and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes relaxed.
"Okay, okay, I'll listen to my good grandson."
Mingzhu breathed a sigh of relief.
Said all these things out loud.
The haze that had been accumulating in my heart disappeared, replaced by an exceptionally relaxed feeling.
Mingzhu leaned her head gently on Mr. Ming's shoulder and smiled with relief.
