Chapter 130 I Want to Be the Boss (1/2)

"When I was little, my mom used to whip me with jujube branches a lot, but the jujubes from this tree were the sweetest. I ate them from when they were still green until they were completely dry on the tree. My mom would make jujube flower cakes during the Chinese New Year."

As Shen Xianjun was speaking, Qin Nian saw the jujubes on the tree. Shen Xianjun picked one, wiped it clean, and handed it to Qin Nian.

It tastes sour and astringent when you take a bite.

Shen Xianjun also picked one and ate it himself. It was so sour it made his teeth ache. He used to sneak handfuls of them, and his mother really deserved to beat him.

Qin Nian couldn't help but smile when she saw Shen Xianjun's expression.

It turns out that the person himself didn't know the dates were so sour; he thought it was intentional.

"Xianjun, the dates aren't ripe yet."

Changshun came out after hearing the laughter and saw Shen Xianjun and his wife.

"Brother Changshun".

Shen Xianjun called for help.

"This must be your sister-in-law. Come in and have a seat."

Changshun extended an invitation.

"Brother Changshun, I won't go in. I'd like to take my wife somewhere else for a bit later. We're leaving tomorrow."

Changshun was somewhat disappointed and at a loss upon hearing this.

"Brother, there's work in the capital. The team leader will go door-to-door talking about it. It's a month's work, including room and board. Skilled workers get 85 a month, which will increase after three months. Unskilled workers get 70 a month. If you want to go..."

Shen Xianjun spoke, but Changshun shook his head.

“I can’t go. There’s so much land at home, your sister-in-law and I can’t manage it all. The kids are also getting on in years. If I leave, your sister-in-law won’t be able to take care of things at home.”

“It’s okay, brother. My mom said that Auntie will be back for the New Year. You can discuss it then. That job is hard work, and you can’t rest all year round. It’s also a problem if someone has to stay at home.”

Shen Xianjun did not insist.

"What time are you leaving tomorrow? Could you help me bring them some things? It's not much, it won't take up much space."

"Okay, we'll leave at 7:30."

Shen Xianjun nodded.

"Alright, then you take your sister-in-law shopping."

Changshun nodded repeatedly.

The two didn't wander around the village for too long. It got dark, and there were no streetlights in the village. Even though there were power lines, everyone tried to save money wherever possible.

Early in the morning, Changshun brought the things, including two sets of clothes.

"My wife made this for you two. Have a safe journey."

Changshun only said one sentence, put down his things, and left.

Before the car left, the brigade leader and others reluctantly saw it off at the village entrance, and only returned to their work after the car disappeared from sight.

The car was stuffed with cucumbers, persimmons, apricots, boiled eggs, and flatbreads, all for the road.

Family compound

Li Wen and Li Wu counted on their fingers.

"How come it's only been two days, but I miss my grandma so much!"

"I miss Grandma Yang too. The cold noodles in the cafeteria aren't as good as Grandma Yang's."

Wang Xing spoke up.

There were no classes today, and Professor Wen was suddenly called away for something, so the rest of them just hung out in the family compound.

"Xingxing, encouraging both literary and martial arts."

"Uncle Wang."

"dad!"

The children turned their heads and saw Wang Xing's father.

"Yes, Xingxing, something happened to your grandparents. Daddy will take you to see them. Your mom is waiting outside."

Wang Xing's father looked very anxious and his expression was not good.

"Oh, Liwen and Liwu, my dad and I are going to see my maternal grandparents. Please don't wander off. Please tell Grandma Wen that my dad and I have left."

"Okay! Goodbye, Uncle Wang."

Li Wen and Li Wu nodded.
