Chapter 148 A High Kick (1/2)

"Okay, Mom."

Qin Nian nodded.

"Xianjun has taken the children out for morning exercise. Breakfast is ready. I'm going out with your Aunt Wang in a bit, so I won't wait for you."

Yang Yufen added that she took a basket, filled it with breakfast, and went next door.

"Why did you come here? Didn't you say you weren't going today?"

Aunt Wang had just finished tidying up.

“Of course I’ll go. Today, Xianjun and Niannian are taking the two kids to buy clothes, so I’ll have some free time.”

Yang Yufen spoke frankly, and Aunt Wang smiled knowingly.

"Let's go then. Xiao Fang is taking the two kids to buy clothes today to prepare for the start of school."

The two elderly women, each carrying a basket and wearing straw hats, walked out of the courtyard and boarded a bus toward the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Now, neither of them needs Wang Shuo's help in arranging work. After getting to know the students in the college, they have an endless amount of work to do, it just depends on whether they want to do it or not.

"Aunt Yang, Aunt Wang, do you have any chores scheduled for today? If not, come and help us out. It's the day the chicks are hatching, and we need some help to collect them."

"OK."

When Aunt Wang thought of the fluffy little chicks, she immediately agreed. Yang Yufen had no objections; she herself had raised quite a few chickens and was very skilled at it.

"This is the incubator. It's so big, how many chicks can it hatch at once?"

Yang Yufen was shocked when she saw the large incubator and couldn't help but express her feelings.

“In the past, we would go to the countryside to teach people how to hatch chicks using blankets. At that time, many people thought it was impossible, but it actually worked. However, back then, we could only hatch a few hundred at a time, which was already very impressive.”

She already thought using an electric blanket to hatch chicks was a luxury, but she never imagined that there would be such a professional machine for hatching chicks.

"One of these machines can hatch 6,000 chicks at a time. The country is encouraging this, and these are all ordered by the farms. There will be more to come. After the chicks are hatched today, a new batch will be delivered in time."

The student proudly introduced the two to Yang Yufen.

As the chirping increased, you could see chicks hatching and moving around inside through the glass.

Yang Yufen and Aunt Wang listened to how to collect the chicks and sort out the defective ones; they realized they had to do it all in one day.

"What if some people come out late?"

Yang Yufen asked a question.

"If it's too late, it can only be a defective product. We can't let a few cases affect the use of the machine."

Yang Yufen nodded. In the morning, she picked out a batch of dried feathers. Each one was fluffy and felt exceptionally soft in her hand. She picked them out and put them in a box next to her.

After lunch, we started the second round of picking. After that, we could rest for a while. At 3 p.m., we picked the seedlings for the last time. Before 5 p.m., we had to clean and disinfect all the machines for use the next day.

"Where will all these be sent?"

Yang Yufen looked at the defective products. They were all alive, but some were only half-emerged, and some hadn't even hatched yet. Those that had hatched but died were disposed of separately.

"The ones with intact shells will be collected, but the ones with broken shells can't be collected and will be sent away to become fertilizer."

The students felt reluctant, but there was nothing they could do.

Yang Yufen nodded.

"Actually, these can be raised, but they might not grow very well. If you want them, you can take them with you."

"real?"

Yang Yufen was pleasantly surprised.

"Of course, our mentor also said before that we couldn't keep up with them, so in the end we just put them in the pile and let them fend for themselves."

Yang Yufen looked at the chicks that were still alive, took the basket, laid some leaves on it, picked up a lot of leaves, and filled the basket to the brim. The chicks crowded together.

"Can you raise that many?"
